Documentary about Yichang sizhu 宜昌丝竹 music from Hubei province, central China
Documentary from Chinese television about Yichang sizhu (宜昌丝竹), a genre of instrumental ensemble music from Yiling District (夷陵区), Yichang (宜昌市), western Hubei province, central China.
Probably filmed in 2007.
The term sizhu (丝竹, literally silk and bamboo) refers to the use, since ancient times, of instruments with silk strings in combination with wind instruments made of bamboo.
Yichang sizhu, a representative form of instrumental folk music in Yichang, Hubei, has a 200-year history, seven generations of musicians, and more than sixty pieces in its repertory.
Yichang sizhu is mainly played at weddings, funerals, and other folk activities. Following the sizhu tradition, the instruments used for Yichang sizhu are mainly strings and woodwinds. It is simple and flexible in form, graceful and fluent in melody, elegant and fresh in style, and has the strong cultural flavor of southern China.
Because Yichang sizhu players are gradually getting old and there are not many young people who want to learn it, the genre is facing extinction. Researching the rules of the genre and the skills necessary to play it are essential in continuing this piece of traditional culture.
In 2006 Yichang sizhu was included in the first installment of 518 traditions inscribed in the National List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of China (第一批国家级非物质文化遗产名录) by China's State Administration of Cultural Heritage (SACH, 国家文物局), an agency under the aegis of the Ministry of Culture (中华人民共和国文化部) that was formerly known as the State Cultural Relics Bureau (国家文物局文化部).

Forbidden City
The Forbidden City is a palace complex in central Beijing, China. The former Chinese imperial palace from the Ming dynasty to the end of the Qing dynasty (the years 1420 to 1912), it now houses the Palace Museum. The Forbidden City served as the home of emperors and their households as well as the ceremonial and political center of Chinese government for almost 500 years.
Constructed from 1406 to 1420, the complex consists of 980 buildings[2] and covers 72 hectares (over 180 acres).[3][4] The palace exemplifies traditional Chinese palatial architecture,[5] and has influenced cultural and architectural developments in East Asia and elsewhere. The Forbidden City was declared a World Heritage Site in 1987,[5] and is listed by UNESCO as the largest collection of preserved ancient wooden structures in the world.
Since 1925, the Forbidden City has been under the charge of the Palace Museum, whose extensive collection of artwork and artifacts were built upon the imperial collections of the Ming and Qing dynasties. Part of the museum's former collection is now in the National Palace Museum in Taipei. Both museums descend from the same institution, but were split after the Chinese Civil War. Since 2012, the Forbidden City has seen an average of 15 million visitors annually,
