I saw a group of about 5 Taiwan blue magpies (endemic to Taiwan)
by the side of a road near Long Tan Lake in Jiaoxi, Yilan of Taiwan (台灣宜蘭礁溪龍潭湖) on 2 Nov 2017. They don't seem to be afraid of humans.

The round snout, a type of carp indigenous to Taiwan, used to be facing endangered status, but thirty years of breeding by villagers in Yilan have brought the fish''s population back up into the millions.Dragon Boat Festival every year marks the time when young round snouts enter adolescence, and it''s a time when Yilan''s Longtan Lake fills up with tens of thousands of the carp swimming upstream to lay their eggs. The first upriver migration this year already attracted a number of tourists eager to get a glimpse of the spectacle.

Join us as we venture out from Yilan City to the stunning Wanglongpi Lake and spend the day there soaking up the serenity. We had more planned for Yilan over our stay there, unfortunately the weather got the better of us, so this video will be on the shorter side. Nonetheless we loved our time in Yilan City!
Taoyuan Lantern Festival in Longtan District to feature Taiwan’s first round-the-lake lantern show
The 15th annual Taoyuan Lantern Festival will be held in the city''s Hakka-influenced Longtan District, and organizers will be handing out rooster-themed handheld lanterns in celebration of the upcoming Year of the Rooster. A 12-meter-tall main lantern is set to feature in a show stretching along the banks of Longtan Lake. Taoyuan Mayor Cheng Wen-tsan held a colorful ceremony to officially start the countdown to his city’s annual lantern festival next month. This year’s Taoyuan Lantern Festival will run from February 10 to 19 at Longtan Lake, and the performances are expected to reflect the area’s heavy Hakka influences. The main lantern at the venue is a rooster to mark the arrival of the lunar Year of the Rooster.Cheng Wen-tsanTaoyuan MayorThis year the slogan of our lantern area will be “happy beginnings,” which also reflects that Taoyuan is the first choice of young people. They can come to Taoyuan to find a good place to buy a home and take their first steps in life, settling down here, working here, and living here. This iteration of the Taoyuan Lantern Festival will feature Taiwan’s first-ever lantern show to surround an entire lake, and will also have fireworks and musical performances alongside parades and other local traditions, in what promises to be a real visual feast for visitors.

Paddy fields are seen between Jiaoxi Township (Chiaohsi Township/礁溪鄉) and Yilan (依蘭/依兰) town in Yilan County (宜蘭縣) in Northeastern Taiwan (臺灣/台灣) on Thursday, May 15, 2014.
Yilan County is located on the Lanyang Plain (蘭陽平原, also known as Yilan Plain/宜蘭平原) that has numerous rivers and streams which provide plenty of water for irrigation and bring fertile soil making it a top rice as well as fish producing region in the country.
Jiaoxi is famous for its hot springs (礁溪溫泉) which attract large numbers of visitors and has become a favorite weekend resort. There is also a few free public hot spots, mostly sheltered, where visitors can enjoy a leisurely foot bath at any time.
In March 2012, it was named one of the Top 10 Small Tourist Towns by the Tourism Bureau of Taiwan.

大家好！我們是淡江大學國際觀光管理學系104級的學生，這系列影片主要是想要針對礁溪做深度的旅遊景點介紹。
我們發現，近年來許多外國觀光客來到礁溪，而他們只知道溫泉，但其實除了溫泉之外，礁溪還有很多景點值得大家去走訪。
所以！我們的動機就是想讓外國旅客知道礁溪除了溫泉，還有其他自然景觀。
我們融入了歷史與簡單的當地文化介紹，而做成了五支影片。

Hello everyone! We are the class of 2019 students from the Department of International Tourism Management, Tamkang University Lanyang campus
This series of video is mainly focusing on a deep understanding of tourist attractions in Jiaoxi.
We found that many foreign tourists came to Jiaoxi in recent years, and they only know about hot springs.
However, in addition to hot springs, there are many attractions in Jiaoxi that are worth to visit
Our motivation is to let foreign tourists know that Jiaoxi has other natural attractions besides hot springs.
We also mentioned about the history and local culture to made these five episodes.
Taiwan is very beautiful, let us step into Jiaoxi and know about the place that has the name of the garden of Taipei.
