চীনে প্রযুক্তি, চিকিৎসা, শিক্ষা ও ইতিহাসসহ অনেককিছু ঐতিহ্যগত ভাবে প্রত্যেকটা দেশের কাছে আইকোনিক রোল মডেল। চীনে হাজার হাজার বছর ধরে তাদের ইতিহাস ও ঐতিহ্য অক্ষুণ্ণ রেখে এসেছে। চীনে প্রায় ধর্ম বর্ণ নির্বিশেষে ১৩৮+ কোটি মানুষ বসবাস করে। এর মাঝে প্রায় ৮০ কোটিরও বেশী মানুষ কমিউনিজম তথা নাস্তিকতায় বিশ্বাসী, এরপর মাৎসু দেবী নামক আরেক ধর্মীয় জাতির অবস্থান, এরপর বুদ্দিনিজম, এরপর খ্রিষ্টান , এরপর চাইনিজ মুসলিমদের অবস্থান। চাইনিজ মুসলিমরা মোট জনসংখ্যার ১-৩%। শিনজিয়ান প্রদেশে সবচেয়ে বেশী মুসলিম। এদেরকেই উইঘুর মুসলিম বলা হয়।
ঐতিহাসিক সূত্রে জানা যায়, ৭ম খ্রিস্টাব্দে অর্থাৎ ১৪০০ বছর পূর্বে হজরত ওসমান (রা.)-এর প্রতিনিধি হজরত সা’দ বিন আবি ওয়াক্কাস (রা.)-এর মাধ্যমে চীনে ইসলাম প্রবেশ করেছে।
হাজার বছর ধরে চীনের মুসলমানরা ছোট বড় বহু মসজিদ নির্মাণ করেছেন। এক তথ্যে জানা গেছে যে, বর্তমানে চীনের মসজিদের সংখ্যা ৩০ হাজারেরও বেশি। এসব মসজিদে ইমামের সংখ্যা প্রায় ৪০ হাজার। চীনের বিভিন্ন অঞ্চলে মিনার ও গম্বুজ শোভিত মসজিদগুলোর দিকে তাকিয়ে মধ্যপ্রাচ্যে রয়েছেন বলে বিভ্রান্তও হতে পারেন।
চীনের ক্যান্টন নগরীতে প্রথম মসজিদ নির্মাণ করা হয়। এই মসজিদটি ‘মেমোরিয়াল মসজিদ’ নামে পরিচিত হয়ে ওঠে। চীনে কয়েকজন সাহাবির কবরও রয়েছে।
চীনের সর্ববৃহৎ মসজিদটি আরব আমিরাতের দাতব্য সংস্থা শায়খ জায়েদ বিন আল নাহিয়ানের উদ্যোগ ও আর্থিক সহায়তায় নির্মিত হয়েছে। এ মসজিদে একসঙ্গে ৬ হাজার মুসল্লি নামাজ আদায় করতে পারে।
