Yixing, dubbed the Pottery Capital of China, is a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Wuxi. With its fabulous unglazed clay teapots - Yixing Teapots, the city is only the place where you can find such clay soil called Zisha in its hilly areas but no where else.
Amazing Chinese Art- Yixing Teapot/ Clay Teapot
Located in Wuxi city, Jiangsu province, Yixing is the only place in the world having purple clay for teapot. Yixing teapot is the name card of the small city.
In this city, most of the people make a living by doing teapot. A teapot is not only a container for tea, but also an artwork for people in Yixing; so the teapots they made have much value of enshrinement.
With the time goes by, the clay in Yixing is getting less and less, and now, Chinese government has unified the exploitation of the clay, prohibiting exploiting randomly.
In this video, Ms.Fan, a master of Yixing Teapot with 30 years of experience, told us some information about Yixing Clay and Yixing teapot. She also showed us how to make teapots in her workshop. After that, we were taken to see the Dragon Kiln, which is famous in Yixing. Though the dragon kiln is not used to fire teapots, but it has fired many kinds of pots and is meaningful for Yixing.

The Zisha Museum of Yixing, Pottery Capital of the World
On the west side of Taihu Lake, in the southern region of Jiangsu Province, is Yixing City, where China’s ceramics industry is based. Yixing, known as the capital of pottery. Jingdezhen is known as the capital of porcelain. It is also home to the China Yixing Ceramics Museum, the earliest known ceramics museum in China. In December 2013, the museum was officially approved as the China Zisha Museum and was recognized as the first national museum in Yixing. The long history of pottery making and the spledndi ceramics culture of Yixing is captured in the rich collections on display at the museum.

The Yixing purple clay teapot is reputed as the first of all tea-sets in the world for its unique material and characteristics;tea inside it does not seep though no glaze is applied on its surface, tea brewed in it tastes rich and mellow for the teapot is porous;tea in it does not decay or change its color when kept overnight,it long retains its full flavor, for the base clay is odorless; the teapot keeps tea warm in winter, but not hot for the hand in summer, it does not crack when heated on a stove or when boiling water is poured in; the longer it is used, the more lustrous it becomes, the more refined and classic it looks, and the more fragrant the tea kept in it.
Usage
1 when brew tea, the tea pot size depends on the number of people.
2 the way to hold pot: the standard action is to hold the pot handle using thumb and middle finger; put the pot with upward force; the index finger resting lightly on tea pot lid, do not cover the holes; the ring finger against the handle forward; little finger rests inside. You can also hold pot with two hands. Either way is ok, but do not cover the pot holes.
3 do not put spout against the guests but face you in the process of brewing,
4 when pouring tea, you should fixup the lid with your fingers, so as not to tilt the pot body, slip the tea lid.
Advantage:
Produce the teapot with superb work. The lid tightly bite the kettle body, pot put presents a beautiful curve, the clay particles is clearly visible on the pot body. Pour the tea from the pot is very smooth. If you hand to block the kettle cover's outlet, then you put the kettle mouth down, the water will not leak out.
The teapot is very fit for drinking and have a good collection value.

The Purple Sand Teapot Museum in Wuxi
Located at the West Shanshui Road, the Wuxi Purple Sand Teapot Museum is the first private museum in Jiangsu Province. It was built by Li Shuaiyuan, an enthusiast of purple sand teapot.
There stands a 2.88 meters (9.45 feet) high purple sand teapot at the entrance of the museum. It has a collection of more than 1000 purple sand teapots made during the Ming and Qing Dynasties and in the period of Republic of China.
