Welsh National Anthem, traditional ,Harmonica, Cymru, Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau
The Welsh National Anthem on Harmonica, Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau (translated 'Land of my Fathers')
The popularity of the song increased after the Llangollen Eisteddfod of 1858 and has been established by tradition in Wales.
Origins:
It was written in 1856 by Evan James and his son, James James, from Pontypridd in Glamorgan. James James, was a harpist who played his instrument in the public house he ran, for the purpose of dancing, over the years the tune has been slowed down to its present rhythm as it began to be sung by large crowds. Its a very well supported song at welsh international rugby matches. People and children across Wales gather to sing the national anthem and celebrate St David's Day on the 1st of March each year.
Wales actually gave the tradition of singing the anthem before a rugby game to the world. In 1905, Wales prepared to do battle with the unbeaten mighty All Blacks: the greatest team in rugby history.
The Welsh had a secret weapon. Thomas Williams, one of the Welsh Rugby Union committee, decided that the Welsh team should sing Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau in response to the intimidating battle cry of the Haka.
12,000 miles away from home, the All Blacks were overwhelmed by the sound. The New Zealand captain wrote later that he had never experienced anything like it in his life.
1905 - 16th December - WALES 3, NEW ZEALAND 0 (Cardiff Arms Park)
The earliest copy of Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau is found in a manuscript collated by James James, containing instrumental and choral work composed between 1849 and 1863. It is the only piece in the manuscript credited to James, although his adaptation of God Save The Queen with a verse in Welsh is also featured.
The manuscript today forms part of the collections of the National Library of Wales, Aberystwyth.
Following James James' death in 1902, it was decided that a memorial should be erected to both the father and son. Designed by Sir William Goscombe John, the monument took almost 30 years to be completed, and was unveiled in Ynysangharad Park, Pontypridd, on 23 July 1930.
An inscription which reads: In memory of Evan James and James James, father and son, of Pontypridd, who, inspired by a deep and tender love of their native land united poetry to song and gave Wales her National Anthem, Hen Wlad fy Nhdau

Tom Jones Tribute Wales UK - TJ Reloaded - Dean Jones - Welsh National Anthem
Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau
Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau (translated in English as ‘Land of my Fathers’) is Wales’ National anthem. It was written in 1856 by Evan James and his son, James James, from Pontypridd in Glamorgan. The original name of the song was Glan Rhondda.
The father and son were from Pontypridd, where there is a memorial to them in Ynysangharad Park. The earliest written copy is part of the collections of the National Library of Wales.
The music is also used by Cornwall, ‘Bro Goth Agan Tasow’, and in Brittany, ‘Bro Gozh ma Zadoù.
The first recorded occasion of a National Anthem being sung before an international sporting occasion was in 1905. The Welsh crowd sang Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau in response to the New Zealand rugby team’s traditional Hacka at the Cardiff Arms Park.
These days Welsh National Anthem can be heard sung passionately before our international rugby and football matches.

Lyrics
Mae hen wlad fy nhadau yn annwyl i mi,
Gwlad beirdd a chantorion, enwogion o fri;
Ei gwrol ryfelwyr, gwladgarwyr tra mâd,
Tros ryddid gollasant eu gwaed.
Chorus:
Gwlad, Gwlad, pleidiol wyf i'm gwlad,
Tra môr yn fur i'r bur hoff bau,
O bydded i'r heniaith barhau.
Hen Gymru fynyddig, paradwys y bardd;
Pob dyffryn, pob clogwyn, i'm golwg sydd hardd
Trwy deimlad gwladgarol, mor swynol yw si
Ei nentydd, afonydd, i fi.
Chorus
Os treisiodd y gelyn fy ngwlad dan ei droed,
Mae hen iaith y Cymry mor fyw ag erioed,
Ni luddiwyd yr awen gan erchyll law brad,
Na thelyn berseiniol fy ngwlad.
Chorus
