Moving To Berlin, Germany as a Canadian - How I did it
As many of you know, I recently moved to Berlin, Germany from Toronto, Canada and have been getting many questions about the whole process with getting a visa and how to go about it. So I decided making this video sharing advice and giving the information I was looking for when I was researching.
I am here on a Youth Mobility Visa (Canadian Working Holiday Visa), which allows residence and paid work in Germany and is valid for a year. I applied in person in Berlin, the process for applying from your home country is a little different.
More information here:
The most difficult part in the process was getting the Anmeldung (registration of address), because in order to get a place to live you need to show income, and to have an income you need a job, for which you need a visa... It’s a cycle that makes it difficult for many but I share some tips on how to go about it.
I was nervous when moving here, especially living in a country I don’t speak the language of, but of course Lilian has been very helpful and supportive. It’s fairly easy to get by with English, however I would recommend everyone to take German classes and make an effort to learn the language, even if just a little.
Berlin is an exciting city, it can be intimidating and stressful, but so far my experience has mostly been very positive and I haven’t felt homesick at all yet.
I will keep you guys posted on how it all continues - thanks so much for your interest and support!
Lots of Love,
Alexis

The German sauna culture – nudity and all | Meet the Germans
The Germans might not have invented the sauna tradition, but they have very much embraced it. On this week's Meet the Germans, Rachel Stewart finds out why the Germans just love to get naked for a communal sweat session.
Rachel is on a mission to investigate the quirks and idiosyncrasies of daily life in Germany. Every two weeks she explores a new topic - from beer to sauna etiquette to complicated grammar - and heads out to get some tips from the Germans themselves.
Rachel moved from the UK to Germany in 2016. As a relative newcomer she casts a fresh eye over German clichés and shares her experiences of settling into German life. You'll find more from Meet the Germans on YouTube or at dw.com/MeettheGermans.
