Indonesia: The Sultan's Palace Museum and Dancing, Yogyakarta, Java
The tour continued in the Sultan's Palace (Kraton) through a small museum. It's worth having a guide who will fill you in on all the gossipy details of the Sultan. Each Sultan had many wives, many unofficial wives, different hobbies, likes and dislikes.
A free musical and dancing concert was taking place today and we stayed for a brief period of time. Both the music and dancing moves at a snail's pace and almost put us to sleep but still enjoyable.

Things to do in Yogyakarta - Visit the Sultan's Palace
Visit the Sultan's Palace (the only remaining Sultan in Indonesia).
As at time of writing (Oct 2017) there has never been a female Sultan and the current Sultan has no sons.
There is debate as to whether one of his daughters will become Sultan or his brother...
We can only wait and see.

Jogjakarta (Yogyakarta), Indonesia
Our second stop in Indonesia found Jo and myself in the wonderful central Javanese city of Yogyakarta (or more commonly spelled Jogjakrta). It is listed as a special province within that country and happens to be the smallest as well. Furthermore, it is the only province in Indonesia that is still governed by its precolonial monarchy.
Jo and I arrived late in the day and after a quick bite to eat, found ourselves in the center of town. There are two large trees in a central park that are said to have special powers. If one can wear a blindfold and walk from one end of the park to the other, through the trees, it's said that you're wish shall be granted. Jo and I each gave it three shots. We failed three times. On my last attempt, I made it to the trees, but then quickly veered right and missed the opening. Some people trying to make their way through the trees were only able to take one or two steps before turning aside.
The first full day found us at sunrise at Borobodur... an awesome sight.
After that, we started our trek into the mountains to see the holy water flowing at the cave of Mother Mary in Sendangsono. We also visited Mendut Temple and local artisans. The day ended with shopping overload on Marlioboro Street.
Our last day in Jogja was also packed! We ventured to Tamansari, the Water Castle. It was amazing to see this little village built around an amazing house with exquisite pools. From there we drove to the Kraton, or Sultan's palace. We hit a few other places, but our last stop was Prambanan.
Unlike Borobodur, it's a massive Hindu Temple. It was constructed around the same time as its Buddhist conterpart and is also listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The Kraton Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat Yogyakarta 2019 - You never knew this about the Sultan ????????
#yogyakarta #jogjakarta #indonesia
I visited The Kraton Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat in Yogyakarta 2019. The Sultan has some secrets up his sleeve I found out.
The Kraton (also spelled keraton or karaton) or the Palace of Yogyakarta, is a grand complex that was meticulously planned to reflect the Javanese cosmos.
This elegant complex of pavilions was constructed based on ancient beliefs, of the connection between the God, human and the natural realms. Each feature holds a special symbolic meaning related to the Javanese worldview, who consider the importance of Mount Merapi and The Indian Ocean.
The Kraton was built in the center, facing directly north towards the majestic Mount Merapi. Its south side was built facing the Indian Ocean, believed to be the abode of Kanjeng Ratu Loro Kidul, the Queen of the South Seas and the mystical consort of the Sultan.
This splendid example of traditional Javanese architecture has no equal. The basic and original layout of the main building of The Kraton began its construction during the reign of Sultan Hamengku Buwono I, in 1755 - 1756.
