The LARGEST CHINATOWN in Asia! STREET FOOD Tour of Yokohama Chinatown
I went to Yokohama Chinatown, one of the largest Chinatowns in Asia! There are so many Chinese restaurants everywhere you go so you won't be feeling hungry walking around the colorful streets of Yokohama Chinatown. But I recommend going on a weekday if you can because I went on a weekend and it was super crowded.

Yokohama Chinatown is a foodies fun ground with street food shops every few meters. And there’s about 250 Chinese owned restaurants scattered throughout the district. In fact, it’s the largest Chinatown in Japan as well as one of the largest in the world.
Quick little history about the area, In 1859, the Yokohama seaport was opened and many Chinese immigrants and traders arrived and formed settlements, built schools, community centers, facilities which became the start of what we today know as Chinatown. But because of strict laws during that time, it was only until 40 years later in 1899, were the immigrants permitted to live outside the designated foreign settlement area.
Today, 95% of Yokohama Chinatown visitors are in fact non-Chinese, which is uncommon worldwide for a Chinatown.
You’ll also notice 10 colorful gates throughout Chinatown and 4 main outer gates which serves to protect the area and all based on feng shui.

Yokohama Street Food Tour | Japan's Largest Chinatown!
In this video we take you on a Yokohama street food tour through Japan's largest Chinatown!
Yokohama (横浜) is the second largest city in Japan by population and it's a quick train ride from Tokyo, making it the perfect destination for a day trip. This is a port city that sits on the shores of Tokyo Bay, and while it has lots to offer in terms of attractions and sightseeing, we were drawn here by the food.
The cool thing about eating in Yokohama Chinatown (横浜中華街) is that you get a unique blend of Chinese food and Japanese food, plus you can also choose between street food and restaurants.
To get to Yokohama we took the Toyoko Line from Shibuya Station (渋谷駅). If you get on the express train you should get to Yokohama in 30 minutes, but we accidentally got on the slow train so it ended up taking over an hour - don't make our mistake!
Here's a list of the foods we tried on our visit to Yokohama Chinatown (横浜中華街):
- Steamed Buns (sweet beef with egg and onions) - ¥500
- Shiu Mai (shrimp and pork dumplings) - ¥380
- Sesame Balls (filled with sesame paste) - ¥310
- Egg Tarts - ¥180
- Spicy Ramen Soup - ¥800
- Mapo Tofu with Rice - ¥1200
- Steamed Panda Buns (matcha flavoured) - ¥320
- Bubble Tea - ¥350
Our one piece of advice for visiting this place is to come hungry! If you want to make the most of your very own Yokohama street food tour, you'll need a big appetite because there is so much food to try. We barely scratched the surface.

Yokohama Street Food Tour | Japan's Largest Chinatown! Transcript:
Alright good afternoon guys. It is time for another street food video. Today we're going to be taking you guys to Yokohama (横浜). It is 30 minutes south from Shibuya station (渋谷駅). So yeah a bit of an excursion for food. Yeah, first time leaving Tokyo and we've brought our appetites.
I didn't really explain why we're going to Yokohama but this is basically home to the largest Chinatown (横浜中華街) in all of Japan and also one of the largest Chinatown's in all of Asia. So perfect place for street food. We're going to have a mix of Japanese street food and Chinese street food.
We have made it to Yokohama Chinatown (横浜中華街). It took us a while to get here.
Yokohama street Chinatown (横浜中華街) is a great place for street food but if street food is not your thing you also have a whole bunch of Chinese restaurants to choose from and a lot of them are buffets so you pay a set fee and then you can eat as much as you want so definitely lots of food options here in Yokohama. This has been great so far. I mean we've only eaten at a couple of places and I'm already loving it.
We have now turned down one of the little side streets here in Chinatown (横浜中華街) and what I find really interesting is that it is not just all street food and restaurants. Down the little side streets we're also seeing like Chinese supermarkets. You have like massage parlors focusing on Chinese medicine and reflexology and you've got souvenir shops. I mean places to buy decorations for your home. And it is just so pretty to walk down these side streets as well because you have the red paper lanterns and the lights are starting to come on because it is late in the afternoon.
I hope you enjoyed our little street food tour of Chinatown (横浜中華街) here in Yokohama (横浜). We had a really fun time just eating so much food. It was delicious. Yeah. I'm leaving here stuffed and I don't feel like we spent that much money. No. That was cool. If you're planning to travel to Japan and you're going to be in Tokyo it is super easy to get to Yokohama (横浜). We'll see you guys in the next video. Bye for now.

Yokohama Chinatown Travel Guide
A travel guide for visiting Chinatown in Yokohama Japan. Yokohama Chinatown, encompassing 600 stores and restaurants in a 10 block radius is one of the largest, and cleanest Chinatown's outside of China. And Dim-Sum (Manchiro Tenshimpo). Click here to SUSBCRIBE:
Definitely a must visit if you're in Yokohama, this is also an easy day-trip from Tokyo.
In this video I start on Yokohama's main pedestrian street, a super busy street of Chinese restaurants and Souvenir shops. Panda related merchandise is particularly popular :). I talk about Chinatown's Chinese Entrance gates... there are a few of these entrance gates scattered around Chinatown -- which makes the neighborhood really easy to find. The Yokohama Business district often has special events, the special event when we were there was to celebrate Taiwan, and they had a number of groups doing the Lion Dance, banging drums, and lighting off firecracks. Each lion would go in to a different store or restaurant to ward off the evil spirits.
Yokohama Chinatown is great for Dim-Sum. We stopped in to Manchiro Tenshimpo for their 12 course Dim-Sum set. Dim-sum is a cool experience in Japan, because they serve it Japanese Style -- on course at a time. If Dim-Sum isn't your thing, walk around and check out all the plastic food in the store windows. Really easy to pick something you like when you can see the food. It's the first time I've seen a plastic Peking Duck!

Evening Walk in Yokohama Chinatown - Motomachi Chukagai - 4K 60FPS
Yokohama Chinatown is one of the most popular spots in Yokohama, Japan (less than an hour away from central Tokyo). Its history is about 150 years long.
Today only a few Chinese people still live in Chinatown, but it has a population of about 3,000 to 4,000. Most of the residents are from Guangzhou (Canton) but many come from other regions.
Yokohama Chinatown is the largest Chinatown not only in Japan but also in Asia (larger than Chinatowns in both Kobe and Nagasaki) and it is one of the largest in the world.
There are roughly 250 Chinese-owned/themed shops and restaurants scattered throughout the district, with the highest concentration centred on a 300 square meter area.
Chinatown can be reached by train, bus, sea-bus and car. The nearest train station is Motomachi-Chukagai on the Minatomirai Line, opened on February 1, 2004.
This was filmed on a weekend in December 2018

横浜中華街 : Yokohama Chinatown
Pinyin: Héngbīn Zhōnghuá Jiē; Cantonese Jyutping: Waang4 ban1 zung1 waa4 gaai1) is located in Yokohama, Japan, which is located just south of Tokyo. Its history is about 150 years long. Today only a few Chinese people still live in Chinatown, but it has a population of about 3,000 to 4,000. Most of the residents are from Guangzhou (Canton) but many come from other regions.
Yokohama Japan Travel Guide
A travel guide for visiting the city of Yokohama, in Japan. Yokohama is Japan's largest city with 3.7M people. Just a short 30-minute train ride from Tokyo, Yokohama is an easy day trip. Highlights include: Minato Mirai, China Town, Yamashita Park, and the Sea Bass. SUSBCRIBE:
In this video I cover the major highlights of Yokohama that you can visit in a day-trip to Yokohama. After arriving at Yokohama station, I stop at the Tourist Information booth at the JR Yokohama Station to pick-up english maps. Then I head out the west exit to the Yokohama Station shopping district. On the West side of Yokohama station there are a great selection of stores including Yodobashi Camera, Japan's largest Electronics Store, Tokyu Hands Creative Life Store (my favorite store in Japan for cool gadgets), and Takashimaya department store.
I then head out to the Yokohama Station East exit to take a ride on the Sea Bass. The Sea Bass is a pedestrian ferry of sorts that goes between Yokohama Station, and Yamashita Park, with intermediate stops at Minato Mirai and the Red Brick Buildings. The Sea Bass has a direct route to Yamashita park that takes about 20 minutes, or an indirect route that makes those two intermediate stops which takes about 35 minutes.
Yamashita Park is a neat waterfront park with a nice wide pedestrian sidewalk along the harbor. Yamashita Park often hosts special events on weekends. The weekend that I visited Yamashita Park it was hosting an international food festival.
Chinatown is about a 5 minute walk from Yamashita Park... Check out my other video linked below for more info on Yokohama Chinatown.
Then I took the subway from Chinatown to the Minato Mirai district. The Minato Mirai district is Yokohama's newest district with some futuristic looking highrises including the Landmark Tower, Japan's tallest office building. The Landmark tower is also home to Japan's fastest elevators. Minato Mirai is best visited at night to see the colorful light displays on the Ferris wheel.
Yokohama is also home to a couple of note-worthy museums that I didn't visit in this video but at worth a mention. 1: Cup Noodle Museum (where you can make your own cup noodle). 2: Ramen Museum (more of a food-court with a whole bunch of ramen shops)
