The Akainko Shrine in Sobe, Yomitan, Okinawa - Oct 27, 2015
Akainko - the Father of the Sanshin.
Every year, on March 4th of the lunar calendar, there is a festival in honor of the Father of the Sanshin, who is known by the name Akainko (child of the red dog). March fourth was chosen to be the date of recognition because of the word sanshin, with san meaning 'three' (third month) and 'shi' meaning 'four' (the fourth day).

Bento time @ Murasaki Mura, Yomitan, Okinawa - March 11, 2014
I decided this morning to go to Murasaki Mura on the Yomitan Peninsula. The place is nice but is definitely a theme park with LOTS of concessions going on. The buildings, the walls, everything in there was constructed as a set for a Japanese TV series, The Wind of Ryukyu. (I wonder if the series in on DVD somewhere - will have to research that.) The real fun began when I stopped in at a soba concession for bento time! A great meal and a floor show for the price of a bowl of noodles! Can't beat that with a bamboo rod! The place is run by the man, his wife and their daughter - a very entertaining troupe, HONTO!
