Urban smart farm starting at Sangdo station
상도역에서 시작하는 도시형 스마트팜
Urban smart farms have been popping up all over Seoul.
Even in the most unlikely places,... like subway stations.
Kim bo-kyoung gets us better acquainted with a 'metro farm'.
There is something curious happening at a Seoul metro station,... where you can see an indoor vertical farm.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government and Farm8, an agriculture firm,... recently opened the first metro farm in South Korea... at Sangdo Station on Seoul Subway Line 7.
They are promoting this metro farm... as a way to effectively utilize unused spaces and carry out urban farming.
Sangdo Metro Farm is an urban smart farm which uses Information and Communication Technology to control the farm's conditions, making it easier to grow crops.
Exotic vegetable breeds are cultivated... with the help of an automated system, which manages temperature, humidity, acidity and provides them with nutrients.
It also allows partial access to people passing by,... and a viewing window where they can look at how smart farms operate,... while also providing clean air.
If we conduct smart farming in metro stations, plants can use carbon dioxide which people breathe out for photosynthesis, and people can breathe in the oxygen that plants produce.
There is also a facility called auto-farm in which a robot manages the entire farming process.
This container-sized indoor farm cultivates young leaves for harvest, when they are fully grown.
People can enjoy the vegetables that are harvested from these facilities at a cafe located right next to the farms,... in the form of salads and juices.
I came in here for the first time after just passing by for several days. I think it is very nice, that it provides us with oxygen and fresh vegetables within a city.
Another urban smart farm has also opened at Dapsimni Station,... and they will open in 3 other subway locations including Chungjeong-ro Station within this year.
The city government and Farm8 are looking forward to creating more urban smart farms in the long-term,… so that people can enjoy crops at lower prices and become more aware of the latest in agricultural technology.

President Park meets with agriculture community to minimize concerns over Korea-
There′s been a huge backlash from the farming community over Korea′s recently agreed free trade agreement with China.
They worry the country will be flooded with cheap imports from across the West Sea.
In an effort to cool tempers, President Park Geun-hye has vowed to minimize damage to the sector.... and modernize the local agricultural industry.
Shin Se-min reports.
Minimizing damage to Korea′s agricultural sector from the Korea-China free trade agreement... is what President Park Geun-hye is promising to the nation′s farmers.
At an open discussion Wednesday in the city of Anseong, south of Seoul,... President Park said the agriculture sector is one of Korea′s key industries... and that her government would be in close consultations with those involved... to make sure their concerns are being heard.
Coming up with new measures is important, but it′s even more important that we take these challenges as opportunities. Right now, we face a critical moment... that will determine whether our farming and rural economy advances to the next level,... or falls behind.
The president also spoke about ways to revitalize the sector through the integration of information technology.
She said the creation of ′smart farms,′ where farming environments can be monitored in a more efficient manner using biotechnology, would be a boon for the sector.
While emphasizing the benefits of greater access to the Chinese market, especially for home-grown produce, the president said Korea should continuously utilize free trade deals with its neighboring Asian countries.
President Park′s promise follows a series of protests and rallies staged by local farmers against the Korea-China FTA, which will remove tariffs on more than 90 percent on all products traded between the two countries, some 20 years after it goes into full effect.

Suwon
Suwon is the capital and largest metropolis of Gyeonggi-do, South Korea's most populous province which surrounds Seoul, the national capital. Suwon lies about 30 km south of Seoul. It is traditionally known as The City of Filial Piety. With a population close to 1.2 million, it is larger than Ulsan, although it is not governed as a metropolitan city.
Suwon has existed in various forms throughout Korea's history, growing from a small settlement to become a major industrial and cultural center. It is the only remaining completely walled city in South Korea. The city walls are one of the more popular tourist destinations in Gyeonggi Province. Samsung Electronics R&D center and headquarters are based in Suwon. The city is served by two motorways, the national railway network, and the Seoul Metropolitan Subway. Suwon is a major educational center, home to 11 universities.

Birds Eye View of Altrich in Spring - Germany 4K Travel Channel
Altrich, a rural municipality in the district Bernkastel-Wittlich, is bounded by highways between Eifel and Mosel.
Here, the freeways form an important traffic hub between Cologne and Trier and further to Luxembourg, Saarbrücken or Mannheim, as well as from Brussels in Belgium to Frankfurt am Main. It is planned that the connection from Belgium to Frankfurt will be finished in 2018, when the expansion of High Moselle Crossing, a 170 m high bridge over the Moselle Valley, will be completed.
Furthermore, the railway line from Koblenz to Trier, the Saarland and Luxembourg passes here.
One can recognize that the area is strongly characterized by agriculture. Due to the good traffic infrastructure, some industrial enterprises have settled here. This has created jobs. The numerous new housing estates testify it.
Also the technology has found its way. Numerous photovoltaic and solar installations characterize the natural scenery. Traces of tractors on the fields were accurately drawn by GPS systems.
Nevertheless, one still finds some unspoiled areas. The extensive forest areas are home to deer and hares, badgers, wild cats, foxes and to the chagrin of farmers also for wild boars.
