Hidden Pennsylvania History - York Colonial Courthouse
The city of York is often overlooked when people plan out their historical tours within the state of Pennsylvania -- mostly, because it is overshadowed by Independence Hall in Philadelphia which was the first Capitol of the United States -- but when the young Capitol was occupied by the British, the revolutionaries need to find a new location.
After going to Lancaster, they quickly realized they needed a pre-existing structure and a more secure location (over the Susquahenna River) -- this is where York came into play.
We owe a lot to this city, as the Articles of Confederation were drawn up here, stating, for the first time, The United States of America. Be sure to stop by and tour the Colonial Court House along with all the attractions of the York County Heritage Trust.
A big thanks to Elizabeth Stein for the tour and the info.

Underground Railroad in York County, Scott Mingus, Rotary Club of York, PA, Meeting 12/9/2015
Scott L. Mingus, Sr. explores the regional historical accounts of Underground Railroad activities along York County's 40-mile border with Maryland, the background of its inception and the important role locals played in its success.
One of the most undocumented episodes in history is the Underground Railroad. From the late 1600s through the Civil War, slaves moved through these networks seeking freedom. Geographic landmarks in rivers, mountains and roads aided the movement of people between slaveholding and free states. These features, coupled with the Quaker and free black population, as well as other leading abolitionists, made the Underground Railroad routes in South Central Pennsylvania a hotbed of activity.

Back in the beginning of July, I spent some time in the United States, hitting some awesome gyms, and seeing some cool places. During the hottest week of the summer, I visited the York Barbell Hall of Fame. This was a pretty awesome place, if you are ever near York Pennsylvania, check it out! During this summer I had a big move and just recently had my video editing equipment set up in my new place, hence why this footage took so long to get put up, sorry Nick, I was there first. :)

Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS) Overview
A Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS) is where applicants for military service go to complete the enlistment process. There are 65 MEPS in the United States and Puerto Rico. Applicants who must travel a distance will receive free lodging at a nearby hotel. Meals and transportation are also provided at no cost.
Nicknamed Freedom's Front Door, MEPS are staffed with military and civilian professionals who carefully screen each applicant to ensure he or she meets the physical, academic and moral standards set by each Service. To do so, each applicant goes through the following steps:
- Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) testing
- Career Counseling
- Physical Exam
- Background Screening
- Oath of Enlistment
Following the Oath, an applicant is now a full member of the U.S. Military. At this point, he or she may ship directly to Basic Training for his or her branch, or enroll in the Delayed Entry (or Enlistment) Program (DEP) and undergo training at a future time. It can be a long day, and a lot happens quickly, but applicants are briefed at every step by MEPS staff, and there is always help available should questions arise.
