YORK MOTOR MUSEUM Western Australia
The Collection:
Established in December 1979, the York Motor Museum is now recognised as one of the finest private collections of Veteran, Vintage, Classic and Racing Cars in Australia.
Housing the Peter Briggs collection of approximately 150 vehicles, the museum presents the evolution of motor transport with prime examples of the finest quality and workmanship from each era. These range from an 1894 Peugeot to the Williams FW07, which Australian Alan Jones drove on his way to becoming the 1980 World Grand Prix Champion.
The Museum:
Sited in the heart of Avon Terrace, the main street of Western Australia's most historic inland town, the museum building is a fine turn-of-the-century commercial structure that has been completely restored to it's original charm.
The exhibition area comprises three main display halls and an external courtyard. Each has a central theme related to the various eras of motoring with different vehicles forming a feature exhibit each month.
In addition to detailed information on the cars, a colourful collection of historic posters, photographs and other motoring memorabilia provides a most informative and charming setting for the vehicles.

York museum WA WESTERN AUSTRALIA PART 1 OF 2
history York is the oldest inland town in Western Australia, situated 97 km east of Perth in the Avon Valley near Northam, and is the seat of the Shire of York. Home to an estimated 3,289 people in 2005, it was settled in 1831, only two years after Perth was settled in 1829. History With the increasing population of the then Swan River Settlement in 1829, it became evident that suitable land would have to be discovered for the growing of cereal crops needed to provide necessary food. Robert Dale, 21 year old Officer of the 63rd Regiment, was assigned the honour of making the first exploratory journey over the Darling Range during the winter months of 1830 into what was later to become known as the Avon Valley. As a result of these explorations, Governor Stirling decided that the new district would be thrown open for selection and this was done by Government Notice on 11 November 1830. Named after the city of York in England, the first settlers in the district reached the valley on 15 September 1831, and immediately set about the construction of huts, the preparation required for their stock and the cultivation of new land. The first decade of settlement in the Avon Valley showed steady progress and a clear indication that the whole district should develop into a rich and prosperous farming area. A township did not begin to appear until 1836 when an army barracks and store were built. It then began to take shape and great improvements were noted as private and Government buildings were erected.[1] By this time the Aboriginal population was beginning to realise the full impact of European colonisation, and to offer understandable resistance. Soldiers were sent from Perth to protect settlers and by 1836 the nucleus of the township was in place, consisting of an army barracks and store with outbuildings, five houses and about 50 acres of cleared land. The first inland town of the Swan River Colony was born, and the story of its subsequent development is traced in the York Heritage Trails four walks. By the late 1880s the town was teeming with miners and fossickers, all alighting from the train and preparing to make the long journey across the plains to the goldfields. It was during the period 1886 to 1900 that most of the town's impressive buildings were constructed. wikipedia

A Celebration of 4 Wheel Driving - National Motor Museum South Australia
The 19th of May 2019 was a first for the overland community as the National Motor Museum in South Australia celebrated 4 wheel driving. Bringing together all the 4x4 clubs in South Australia for this celebration.
Everyone camped from the day prior to the event. Proudly displaying their beloved 4x4 vehicles as well as each person's camping set up. With so many like minded 4x4 overland travellers coming together it was an opportunity for sharing ideas, travel notes and yarns.
On the second day the gates opened to the general public, giving people an opportunity to gain access to how each individual overland traveller kitted out their 4x4 vehicles and what the thinking behind each person's camping set up was.
The highlight of the day was the arrival of Australian 4x4 overlanding legend John Roothy and his famous Toyota Landcruiser 40 series more affectionately known as Milo. After a million kilometres of offroad overlanding it was time to give Milo a much deserved retirement. But rather than having Milo parked away in some private garage, Roothy had decided to give this legend of a 4x4 to the people of Australia by donating her to the National Motor Museum.
Cheers!

Formula One returns to the streets of Adelaide!
Take a moment to bask in the sensational glory of the Saudia Williams FW07/04 once driven to glory by Alan Jones at the recent Adelaide Motorsport Festival. For more info on this event head to:
Saudia Williams FW07/04 Driven by Alan Jones
This car is one of two that he won races in 1980 to secure the World Drivers Championship.
After six race starts with four wins in 1979 and 1980 Williams stopped racing it but retained it as a test car. Later in 1980 it was crashed during tyre testing and rebuilt as a display car to celebrate AJs and William's World Championships.
Williams sold the car to Peter Briggs in 1981 and it was kept at the York Motor Museum in Fremantle until 2010. One of the many visitors to the museum was a very young Daniel Ricciardo. His father remembers him sitting in the car as a young boy and now he has his own name on an F1 car.
The car was purchased in April 2010 and underwent a complete restoration in Melbourne. AJ's lead mechanic at Williams, Wayne Eckersley, was engaged to oversee the restoration. It is fully functional and ready to race.
Apart from the engine, very few major items needed to be replaced, thus making it the most original example of an FW07.
These cars were known as ground effects cars due to the underside of the car acting as an upside down wing that sucked the car down more as it went faster. The increase in grip was enormous so speed in fast corners increased dramatically. They were banned soon after in the interest of driver safety.
