Train Simulator 2019 - The Wakefield Lost Lines...Progress update June 2019
A short video from me...taking a train through Crigglestone Tunnel and across Crigglestone viaduct.
Yorkshire and the Humber, England, United Kingdom, Europe
Yorkshire and the Humber is one of nine official regions of England at the first level of NUTS for statistical purposes. When the Government Office Regions were created in 1994 it was called Yorkshire & Humberside with the counties of North Yorkshire, South Yorkshire, West Yorkshire and Humberside. However Humberside was abolished hence the current Region name. The population in 2011 was 5,284,000. The British Government has announced its intention to abolish Government Offices (for the Regions) no later than 31 March 2011. There are seven cities in Yorkshire and the Humber: Bradford, Kingston upon Hull, Leeds, Ripon, Sheffield, Wakefield and York. There are many other large towns in the area such as Doncaster, Grimsby, Halifax, Huddersfield and Scunthorpe. Leeds is the largest settlement being the largest part of an urban area with a population of 1.5 million. Leeds is now one of the largest financial centres in the United Kingdom. Sheffield is the second largest settlement and is a large manufacturing centre. Bradford is the third largest city and was traditionally a textile city, the decline of these industries has left Bradford's economy more diverse. Kingston upon Hull is the main port in the region and also a notable fishing harbour. While cities such as Bradford, Leeds and Sheffield grew during the industrial revolution, there are older cities in the region such as Wakefield and York. The tallest occupied building in Yorkshire is Bridgewater Place in central Leeds, commonly referred to as The Dalek, and at 361 feet is the 34th tallest building in the UK, built in 2007. The 37 storey Sky Plaza in Leeds is the world's second tallest student accommodation building at 338 feet, and the second tallest building in the region, and the UK's 42nd tallest building, built in 2009. The 32-storey St Pauls Tower is now the tallest building in Sheffield at 331 feet. The Royal Hallamshire Hospital is the tallest hospital in the UK outside of London at 249 feet, and was built in 1979. Stainless steel was invented in 1913 by Harry Brearley of Sheffield, working for Firth Brown Steels (now called Sheffield Forgemasters). Crucible steel had been invented in the 1740s by Benjamin Huntsman of Epworth in Lincolnshire (part of the region). he area is well known for its brass bands, with the Brighouse and Rastrick Brass Band, Black Dyke Band, Grimethorpe Colliery Band, Carlton Main Frickley Colliery Band, Rothwell Temperance Band and Hammonds Saltaire Band. Brass bands have mostly been linked with coal mines. The Brontë family are the region's best known authors. The region's most popular city for tourists is York. Castleford is the birthplace of the world famous sculptor Henry Moore. The Yorkshire and Humber Assembly was a partnership of all local authorities in the region and representatives of various economic, social and environmental sectors. The full Assembly normally met three times a year, normally in February, June and October. The full Assembly is responsible for providing regional leadership, agreeing regional strategic priorities, directing the development of the Integrated Regional Framework and endorsing key regional strategies. Membership comprises all 22 local authorities in this region, plus 15 Social, Economic and Environmental partners, and the National Parks for planning purposes. On 31 March 2009, the Assembly was abolished and replaced by Local Government Yorkshire and Humber, which continues to be based in the former Assembly premises in King Street in Wakefield. Yorkshire is one of the two regions (along with the North West) that were expected to have a referendum about the establishment of an elected regional assembly. When the North East region of England rejected having an elected regional assembly in a referendum, the then Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott announced that he would not move orders for other referendums before the relevant provisions expired in June 2005.

Trainz at Huddersfield in 1964 (Trz12)
Although still a major station on the Lancashire and Yorkshire railway between Manchester and Leeds, Huddersfield is now a shadow of its former self in terms of both trains and track layout. The station was opened as a joint venture between the Lancashire and Yorkshire railway and the Huddersfield and Manchester Railway & Canal Company, and is the main Trans-Pennine route, providing a vital artery between the two counties.
This representation shows Huddersfield in around 1964, when steam was making its final stand against the unstoppable tide of modernisation, coming in the form of British Railways Standard Classes as well as ex-London Midland and Scottish Railway locomotives inherited from nationalisation in 1948:
1. Parallel arrivals from the east are shown with a British Railways 4MT arriving with a terminating service from Leeds via Halifax whilst a newly constructed Brush Type 4 D1830 arriving with a Trans Pennine service from Newcastle to Liverpool Lime Street. This locomotive later became 47349 and continues to run on the Network as 57603.
2. The next few scenes show the 4MT running around its train in preparation for the return working
3. Introduced in 1958, diesel railcars were now a common sight at Huddersfield, taking over many routes once served by Fairburn Tanks. Here a Class 105 is seen arriving with a train from Leeds via Wakefield
4. Opening up their throttles to pass through the centre road, a pair of English Electric type 3's are seen hauling a rake of loaded mineral wagons.
5. Another Brush Type 4 passes the station, this time a mixed freight hauled westbound by D1940 (later 47717)
6. Ex-LMS Black 5 number 44668 is seen departing with an eastbound Parcels headed for Leeds
7. English Electric built Class 40, 40106 departs with a westbound Trans-Pennine working from York to Blackpool, a scene which can today be duplicated as number 106 survives in preservation.
8. Another 4MT arrives with a Leeds/Halifax terminating service whilst Brush Type 4 number D1678 (later 47534) is seen passing with a mixture of cattle vans and parcels wagons with a service to Manchester Victoria. Heading the other way, a Class 31 on eastbound parcels.
9. Given the right of way, English Electric Type 3, D6797 opens up its throttles and clags heavily as it hauls an eastbound mixed freight. D6797 continues to survive in preservation as 37097 on the Caledonian Railway
10. More parcels, another Black 5 leads a rake of vans westbound out of the station bound for Crewe
11. Heading west through the centre road is an ex-LMS Black 5 and a BR Standard 9F on a mixed freight
12. Another mixed rake is seen being led east out of the station by a Black 5 following a crew change
13. In their latter years, London and North Eastern Railway A4 Pacifics often found themselves being assigned to charters and other specials before the full withdrawal of the class in 1966. Here, LNER A4 number 60012 'Commonwealth of Australia' is given one of its final tours of duty before it was withdrawn in April of 1964. It is seen hauling a special service from Newcastle to Blackpool for the illuminations.
14. Another 4MT departs for Leeds whilst English Electric Type 3 D6723 arrives for a crew change whilst hauling a mixed freight. D6723 is also preserved as 37023 and is now privately owned.
15. And finally, a pair of English Electric Type 1's are seen accelerating through the station with a loaded mineral train bound for Liverpool.
Enjoy!!

Wakefield Eastern Relief Road
The Doncaster Road visualisation was prepared using the standard 2D highway design junction layout. The 2D design is then converted into surfaces using 3D software. Appropriate props are then applied to enhance visual validity of the design. The visual props include street lights, kerb upstands road signs, traffic signal poles, landscape features, buildings, etc. The greater the detail the more time is involved. The landscaping/building features can vary significantly depending on the level of detail required. This variation includes generic buildings/landscaping props to laser scanning of existing buildings to accurately represent what is currently located adjacent to the junction. A separate micro-simulation model is also prepared for the junction. The micro-simulation model presents a visual representation of the likely vehicle movements through the junction based on observed and forecast traffic flows. The micro-simulation model is then imported in the 3D highway design model to create junction visualisation. The scheme is then rendered accordingly for the required outputs, screenshots/videos/etc

LNER Azuma - First Day Of Service
On Wednesday 15th May, LNER brought their brand new Hitachi-built Azuma trains into service for the first time. I decided that this would be a good opportunity for a new video, since I hadn't uploaded in a while, so I travelled North to experience the new train.
Due to Sixth Form, and the cost, I couldn't do the full journey from London Kings Cross to Leeds and back, and connecting in Doncaster, my nearest station that the Azuma passed through, would mean a 10 minute connection time, which I didn't want to risk. What I ended up doing, therefore, was going to Wakefield Westgate and travelling on the final section of the first public service to Leeds, before going back down as far as Doncaster, where I could get back to Sheffield quite easily.
My first impressions of the train are that it's really nice- the interior is bright and feels spacious, it has new seat reservation screens, with coloured lights, and I personally found there to be tonnes of legroom, the extra 7cm really makes a difference and I noticed it when compared to the Voyager I travelled on earlier. It also has better acceleration and deceleration, I noticed the deceleration was particularly noticeable when it arrived at Wakefield. Overall, a really nice, modern train, and I look forward to more entering service throughout the year.
Thanks for watching!

The Midland Railway's eight-mile route from Royston Junction to Thornhill was authorised under the 1898 West Riding Lines Act, which included lines to Huddersfield, Halifax and Bradford. First trafficked in 1905 after three years construction, it connected with the Lancashire & Yorkshire's network at Thornhill Junction and featured a short tunnel as well as two substantial viaducts. 1st March 1906 saw the opening of a two-mile spur to Savile Town Goods from a junction near Horbury Bridge. This would have served as Dewsbury's passenger station had the full plans come to fruition.
Intended principally for freight, the route was used by Bradford-St Pancras services for a 12-year period between the two world wars. The eastern end of the line closed in May 1968 but trains continued to use the western section until August, bringing materials to the M1 motorway which was then under construction. Track lifting took place the following year.
The viaduct at Calder Grove (known as Crigglestone Viaduct) has 21 arches. The most eastern one sits over the existing Wakefield-Barnsley line. The former Crigglestone curve (Crigglestone Jnc to Horbury Station Jnc) passed beneath its western approach embankment whilst the central section towered over Pepper's Yard British Oak site and the old line serving the collieries around Flockton.
End-to-end, the viaduct measures 1,270 feet.

The airport was in public ownership until May 2007, when it was sold for £145.5 million to Bridgepoint Capital.[4]
Leeds Bradford has a CAA Public Use Aerodrome Licence (Number P800) that allows flights for the public transport of passengers and for flight training. The airport is also the highest in England at an elevation of 681 ft (208 m).[5] By the number of passengers handled in 2011, Leeds Bradford was the 16th busiest airport in the UK.

Yorkshire by drone: Derelict old park farm - Wakefield
A drone adventure to find a derelict farm in Wakefield this evening.
Old Park Farm, Wakefield.
Near Stanley Ferry in Wakefield.
Not sure of the age of the farm.
In 2008 the farm was closed being in the news about the welfare of the birds that were kept there.
Apparently some of the birds have been used in Harry Potter.
