The Yorkshire Wolds Way In 3 Minutes
The Yorkshire Wolds Way runs for 79miles through Yorkshire, from Hessle to Filey Brigg. The route is one of the quieter National Trails, but no less scenic, with rolling hills and quaint villages, it makes a wonderful few days of long-distance walking.

The Yorkshire Wolds Way - Day 1
Back in April 2019 I walked the Yorkshire Wolds Way.
Day 1 - Hessle to Hunsley Dale a total of 17 miles ending in a wild camp.
It was a late start and after starting down by the Humber Bridge and a full belly at the Country Inn I eventually left the noise and tarmac behind. It had been a warm Easter Sunday heading through woodlands, past ponds and dales. I took a break that evening at The Fox and Coney Inn in South Wold before heading on through my first true Yorkshire Wolds at Comber Dale and Weedley Dale. As dusk descended I eventually located an area where I could pitch my tent and i dozed off to the sound of the wild animals around me.
A Walk In The Wolds - Exploring The Yorkshire Wolds Way National Trail |
Follow Abbie Barnes on her journey as she walks the Yorkshire Wolds Way - 79 miles from Hessle, on the shores of the Humber Estuary, to Filey Brigg, just south of Scarborough. She explore the hidden gems of the route, such as the iconic Humber Bridge, Wharram Percy - Medieval Deserted Village (the best preserved Medieval village in England), and historic churches that saw the coming of the Christianity to Britain.
Along the way, she battles freezing snow and chilly nights, torrential rain and slippery slopes, but most importantly, she creates memories to last a lifetime. Now all she has left to do is to encourage you to 'Spend more Time In The WILD'

Cycle England - Yorkshire Wolds
The Yorkshire Wolds is a broad crescent of rolling chalk hills and valleys, south of the North York Moors, arcing from the coast at Flamborough westwards towards Malton and then south to the Humber Bridge. Known as the 'king of the wolds', both Driffield and the ancient market town of Beverley lie on lower ground within the arms of the crescent. The magnificent, unspoiled scenery, beautiful market towns, outstanding country houses and sweeping coastline ensure that many visitors return year after year.

Walking the Wolds Way - Day One
Yorkshire Wolds – Pocklington / Thixendale area, East & North Yorkshire
This cycle ride is #12 in Nick Cotton’s book “Cycle Tours, North York Moors” (which includes some rides on the Yorkshire Wolds). The only difference is that I started from the village of Burnby, just east of Pocklington. It takes you in an anti-clockwise loop through the villages of Middleton-on-the-Wolds, North Dalton, Huggate & Thixendale before heading on a relatively flat section to Pocklington and then, still flat, back to Burnby. It’s 31.98 miles with a height gain of 1,759 ft. There are some steady climbs and one steep climb from Thixendale.
Be sure to check out my bike ride videos and the other (mainly Yorkshire) cycle ride segments - ideal for use at the gym on an indoor trainer, exercise bike, treadmill, cross trainer, etc! Most are in Yorkshire, but some are in Lancashire, Devon, Dorset, Somerset and Derbyshire.

Fridaythorpe, Yorkshire Wolds - 8 September 2014
A 10 mile round walk starting at Fridaythorpe, East Riding. The walk heads south along the Yorkshire Wolds Way into Holm Dale and then joins Horse Dale. The route then continues south towards Huggate before bearing west and then leaves the Wolds Way and follows the route of the Chalkland Way back to Horse Dale and then towards Wold House Farm. After joining York Lane the route leaves the Chalkland Way and continues west towards the picnic area just off A166. From here the route heads north crossing the A166 into Wayrham Dale and then Bradeham Dale and then into Thixen Dale where the Yorkshire Wolds Way is joined again and followed back to Fridaythorpe through Brubber Dale.
