Yosemite National Park Vacation Travel Guide | Expedia
Yosemite – an American story unlike any other. Follow us through the national park from its high country to its waterfalls, its towering sequoia groves to its valley meadows.
When ready, browse vacation packages to Yosemite National Park:
#YosemiteNationalPark sits on the western slopes of California’s Sierra Nevada Mountains. Most visitors spend their #vacation in Yosemite Valley, which despite being only 7 miles long and 1 mile wide, packs in more jaw-dropping scenery than just about any other place on Earth.
#Visit Tunnel View and stand before a panorama that’s reduced generations of visitors to silence. The Yosemite Valley ring road follows the banks of the Merced River, which shifts in character as it thunders from the valley walls, before gently winding across the valley floor. The ring road is dotted with trailheads that lead to 800 miles of hiking trails.
Drive along Tioga Road, one of the USA’s most scenic highways. Fill your lungs with alpine air at Olmsted Point, refresh yourself by the waters of Tenaya Lake, then spend the day at Tuolumne Meadow, the traditional summer hunting grounds of the Ahwaneechee.
For now, we hope you enjoy watching this #travel #guide as much as we enjoyed making it.

Yosemite • ARRIVING IN THE VALLEY for sunset
Arriving in Yosemite at any time of year is downright magical... Especially when it's free!
We arrive at Yosemite National Park in late September, after a six hour drive from Los Angeles. It was National Public Lands Day, so the usual $30 admission was waived (from November -March it's $25). After a quick stop at the Wawona Hotel, we proceeded to Tunnel View, to get the sunset. Tunnel view was made popular by Ansel Adams, and again when Apple revealed their Yosemite and El Capitan operating systems.
The travel time from the South Gate of Yosemite to the hotels of the Yosemite Valley is about 1-1.5 hours, depending on who you're driving behind. We've stayed at the Tenaya Lodge, just outside the South Gate. It's a GREAT hotel. But, if you plan on spending time in the valley, you'll find yourself in your car for at least hours a day. So, when possible, we like to stay in the valley.
The Wawona is about 4 miles inside the South Gate. While it's still about an hour from the valley, it is inside the park, and there are nice trails and amenities to make it worth staying there. AND it's the most economical hotel in the park.
On this night, we stayed at the Lodge at Yosemite Falls. I have a video to release talking about the various lodging options, BUT I'm waiting until March 1, 2016 to post it. Due to a dispute with the company that ran the parks accommodations (there was a switchover), the names of many of the hotels are in dispute. Anyway, this night we stayed at the Lodge. But, at the computer's were down, we went to Curry Village for drinks (and pizza) while we waited. I would have shot the pizza, but it was getting too dark.
Unlike many other locations that cater to tourists, I like that you're not gouged by prices in Yosemite National Park. While the accommodations can add up, there are economical food options in many of the valley's eateries.

I made this trip in August, 2015. Video shot with a Brinno TLC-200 Pro time-lapse camera, mounted on my roof with a homemade magnetic case. I travel with two Brinno cameras - one facing forward, the other in reverse. Sometimes the reverse camera captures better video (fewer raindrops and bugs hit the rear-view lens).

Yosemite National Park Day Trip Itinerary
Yosemite is open to visitors year-round, however heavy snowfall in the winter often means that many of the roads through the park are closed during the snowy months. High season is generally from Memorial Day to Labor Day, and, while the weather is warm and all the roads are open during the summer, these months are also the busiest.
If you can, do what we did — visit just before or after high season. We visited in early May, just after all the roads had reopened, but before all the park tours and shuttles started operating. It worked out perfectly, since a lower-than-usual amount of snowfall meant that I visited during the peak water flow for all of Yosemite's waterfalls.

Yosemite Park Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about nature park Yosemite Park in the USA.
Majestic, thousand metre high rock walls flank a magnificent valley, the heart of the world famous Yosemite National Park located in California’s Sierra Nevada. The first thing that strikes most visitors to the park is its spectacular waterfalls which. are the highest on the entire North American Continent and plunge down more than seven hundred metres. At Yosemite Falls the water from Yosemite Creek falls from the elevated regions of the Sierra Nevada down into the valley below. For several centuries, long before any white settlers reached the valleys of today’s park, the area that surrounded the Merced River was the sole domain of the Native American Indian. For almost four thousand years this was the hunting ground of the Awanitshi Indians. In bygone times the Indians called today’s Bridal Veil Fall, ‘Pohono’, The Spirit of the Wind. The name is most apt because the water is continuously forced away from the rock walls and the height of the waterfall is equivalent to around sixty-two storeys. In the northern more inaccessible sections of the park the cold and clear water of the streams flows into the Tuolmne River. The source of the water that travels into the Merced River is a combination of several creeks that are located in the three thousand metre high alpine regions of both the Cathedral and Clarke Mountain Ranges. The park’s prehistoric Mammoth Trees are truly gigantic and their trunks can reach a diameter of nearly ten metres and a height of up to seventy. The mighty trees are real natural wonders and are even protected from fire by their fifty centimetre thick bark. Strong tan acids prevent insects from attacking the wood and it’s not uncommon to come across trees that are a thousand years old. Yosemite is a truly splendid example of enchanting natural scenery with all the magnificence and artistry of water, gentle, powerful and at its most captivating.

Yosemite Valley Lodge, Laurels, room 3201, April 22, 2019
These rooms are directly across from Yosemite Falls. Very close to restaurants, grocery store, pool, bike rental, etc.
The unit in this video is an excellent ground floor, corner unit with a small private patio and a second side door entrance. I loved this corner unit location bc we parked our vehicle 15 feet from the front door making loading and unloading our gear very easy and convenient. We only used the front door when we moved in and moved out so we never even noticed the buses or noise. Some YVL locations could be 150 feet from the parking lot and lugging gear is a pain.
8 Things to do in Yosemite Valley in the Winter
Yosemite Valley is one of the top destinations in California and easily one of the most beautiful places in the state. While most people choose to visit in the summer, it is incredibly busy, and a winter visit to the valley is one of the best ways to experience the park. Here are some of my favorite winter stops in the Yosemite Valley.

Drive to Yosemite in Winter. Yosemite during snow in 2019
Driving to Yosemite in winter from San Francisco. The video starts after we pass city of Oakdale and goes through highway 120 towards lake Don Pedro then up the hill to Groveland and then to Yosemite Valley. This video was recorded on Feb. 2019. I drove there with my wife and recorded the drive with my iphone 7+. That week it had snowed record levels and we got lucky to witness the beauty of Yosemite Valley during winter and not many people around.
