Yoshino Mikumari Shrine is a small Shinto shrine situated in the upper Kami Senbon area of Yoshinoyama. This serene shrine is dedicated to Ameno Mikumari, a female deity associated with water, fertility and safe birth, who is believed to bless those who pray to her with fertility. The shrine has several ancient portable shrines (mikoshi) and artifacts on display and is one of four important mikumari shrines in Japan.
The shrine's current main hall was rebuilt in 1604 by Toyotomi Hideyori, Hideyoshi's son, and represents a unique architectural style of the Momoyama Period. The hall's beautiful, layered bark roof was renovated in 2011, and the structure has been registered as part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2004.

Japan Trip: Yoshinoyama Kami Senbon Mikumari Shrine panoramic view, Nara47
Mount Yoshino (Yoshinoyama), located in Nara Prefecture, has been one of Japan's most famous cherry blossom viewing spots over many centuries. It is said that the first trees were planted more than 1300 years ago along its slopes, and today the mountain is covered by approximately 30,000 cherry trees of many different varieties, mainly of the Yamazakura variety.
Yoshinoyama is not quite a free standing mountain, but is a north-facing mountain slope. It is divided into four areas: the Shimo Senbon (lower 1000 trees) at the foot of the mountain, Naka Senbon (middle 1000 trees), Kami Senbon (upper 1000 trees) and Oku Senbon (inner 1000 trees) at the top of the mountain. Beauty of the cherry blossoms can be enjoyed as visitors ascend the mountain. They walk through Yoshino's touristy town with its various temples and shrines, and can enjoy hanami in the parks and viewpoints along the way. Further up the mountain, high in the Kami Senbon (upper) area, the crowds and the town begins to thin out. Kami Senbon seems slightly quieter than the lower parts of the mountain, and it offers several small parks, which provide pleasant places for taking a break. There is Hanayagura View Point, which affords the most famous panoramic view of Yoshinoyama. It is about one hour walk from the upper ropeway station.

Yoshino Cherry Blossoms 吉野山の桜 [8K]
Yoshino Mountain (吉野山 Yoshino-yama) is a mountain located in the town of Yoshino in Yoshino District, Nara Prefecture, Japan. In 2004 it was designated as part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site under the name Sacred Sites and Pilgrimage Routes in the Kii Mountain Range.
Yoshino Mountain was the subject of a waka poem in the 10th century poetry compilation Kokin Wakashū. It is also the subject of several poems in the Ogura Hyakunin Isshu.
Several important religious and pilgrimage destinations are located around Mount Yoshino, including Yoshino Mikumari Shrine, Kimpu Shrine and Kimpusen-ji. It is well known for its cherry blossoms and attracts many visitors every spring.
Yoshino Mountain is famous for its many thousands of sakura trees, and is heavily referenced in both traditional waka poetry and folk song for its abundance of flowers in the spring, with famous poets such as Chiyo offering prose on the peak and its many flowers. These flowering specimen trees were planted in four groves at different altitudes, in part so that the famed trees would come into bloom at different times of the spring. A 1714 account explained that, on their climb to the top, travelers would be able to enjoy the lower 1,000 cherry trees at the base, the middle 1,000 on the way, the upper 1,000 toward the top, and the 1,000 in the precincts of the inner shrine at the top.
Famous products that can be found in shops in the area of Mount Yoshino include edible goods made from kudzu root and persimmon leaf-wrapped sushi (kakinoha-zushi)

Japan Trip: Kinpusenji Temple cherry blossom viewing spot Mount Yoshino, Nara19 Japan Moopon
Kinpusenji Temple is the leading temple in Yoshino and is the main Shugendo temple of great significance. Shugendo is a religion based on mountain worship that combines tenets of both Buddhism and Shinto. The temple is listed as the UNESCO World Heritage sites of Yoshino, and its main hall, Zao-do Hall with the height of 34 meter, is said to be Japan's second largest wooden structure only behind Nara's Todaiji Temple.
Three, blue skinned statues of Zao Gongen stand inside the Zao-do Hall, the fierce looking deity to protect the sacred mountains of the Yoshino area. Zao Gongen is one of the most important deities in Shugendo, embodying the past, present and future Buddha. The temple's three statues have been standing for 1300 years, measures up to as tall as seven meters and each represent one of these three facets.
Kinpusenji Temple occasionally holds Shugendo workshops, which highlight feats of physical and mental endurance of the elements, such as hanging off cliffs or sitting under waterfalls, which Shugendo teaches to be a path to enlightenment. Also, the pilgrimage trail starts at the temple to the sacred Mount Omine.

Yoshinoyama's cherry blossoms usually start blooming in around late March or early April and reach full bloom around early to mid April. According to the different elevation, the blooming season is staggered by a couple of days between the Shimo (lower), Naka (middle) and Kami (upper) Senbon areas as the blossom front gradually moves up the mountain, because the temperature is the lower, the higher the elevation. Therefore, the trees in the Oku Senbon area open considerably later. Keep it in mind that depending on the weather, the starting date and length of the peak period can vary quite a bit from year to year.

Japan Trip: Yoshino beautiful with cherry trees World Heritage Site, Nara45
Mount Yoshino (Yoshinoyama) in Yoshino Town, Nara Prefecture, is one of Japan's most famous cherry blossom spots. It is covered by over 30,000 cherry trees planted around the slopes. Visitors can walk along the roads that lead up the mountain admiring them.
Yoshino also offers a rich history, which makes it an interesting destination even without cherry blossoms at any time of the year. Yoshinoyama has been the base of the pilgrimage trail to sacred Mount Omine, a center of Shugendo mountain worship for many centuries. The remote town also served to give refuge to various historical personalities, including Emperor Go-Daigo who established a competing second imperial court there in the 14th century.
In 2004, Yoshino was designated a cultural UNESCO World Heritage Site, together with Mount Koya and Kumano, as part of the Sacred Sites and Pilgrimage Routes in the Kii Mountain Range.

Japan Travel: Yoshimizu Shrine cherry trees & snow covered Mt. Yoshino, Nara44
Yoshimizu Shrine (Yoshimizu Jinja) in the Naka Senbon area of Mount Yoshino, has a long and storied past. It was originally established in the 8th century as a temple, and then served as the living quarters for practitioners of Shugendo mountain worship. The temple gave refuge to several notable historical figures over the years starting with Minamoto Yoshitsune who fled from his brother Yoritomo in the 12th century.
In the 14th century, after Emperor Go-Daigo established a rivaling imperial court (the Southern Court) at Yoshino, the shrine served as his temporary seat, effectively making the shrine an Imperial Palace. Emperor Go-Daigo is still enshrined here to this day. Furthermore, in the 16th century, Yoshimizu Temple played host to some of famous hanami parties here held by Toyotomi Hideyoshi.
Eventually it was converted to a shrine during the Meiji Period's separation of Buddhism and Shinto. Yoshimizu Shrine today exhibits various treasures in its main building, such as historic documents, arms, paintings and other art objects. Yoshimizu Shrine also is still a popular place for cherry blossom viewing and affords some great, unobstructed views of Yoshino's cherry tree covered mountain slopes.

Japan Trip 2012 Tokyo Shop Meiji Shrine Tourist Shibuya (6)
Meiji Shrine
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Meiji Shrine (明治神宮 Meiji Jingū?), located in Shibuya, Tokyo, is the Shinto shrine that is dedicated to the deified spirits of Emperor Meiji and his wife, Empress Shōken.
History
After the emperor's death in 1912, the Japanese Diet passed a resolution to commemorate his role in the Meiji Restoration. An iris garden in an area of Tokyo where Emperor Meiji and Empress Shōken had been known to visit was chosen as the building's location.
Construction began in 1915 under Itō Chūta, and the shrine was built in the traditional nagare-zukuri style and is made up primarily of Japanese cypress and copper. It was formally dedicated in 1920, completed in 1921, and its grounds officially finished by 1926.Until 1946, the Meiji Shrine was officially designated one of the Kanpei-taisha (官幣大社), meaning that it stood in the first rank of government supported shrines.
The original building was destroyed during the Tokyo air raids of World War II. The present iteration of the shrine was funded through a public fund raising effort and completed in October, 1958.
Meiji Shrine was brought into the flow of current events with the 2009 visit of United States Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. After arriving in Tokyo on her first foreign trip representing the newly elected President Barack Obama, she made her way to this shrine in advance of meetings with Japan's leaders to show her respect toward history and the culture of Japan.
In January 2010, German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle demonstrated the same respect when he concluded his visit to Japan with a visit of the shrine.
Shrine complex
Meiji Shrine is located in a forest that covers an area of 700,000 square-meters (about 175 acres). This area is covered by an evergreen forest that consists of 120,000 trees of 365 different species, which were donated by people from all parts of Japan when the shrine was established. The forest is visited by many as a recreation and relaxation area in the center of Tokyo.
The shrine itself is composed of two major areas:
Naien
The Naien is the inner precinct, which is centered on the shrine buildings and includes a treasure museum that houses articles of the Emperor and Empress. The treasure museum is built in the Azekurazukuri style.
Gaien
The Gaien is the outer precinct, which includes the Meiji Memorial Picture Gallery that houses a collection of 80 large murals illustrative of the events in the lives of the Emperor and his consort. It also includes a variety of sports facilities, including the National Stadium (Meiji Jingu Gaien Stadium and later, since 1956, on the same site Tokyo Olympic Stadium), the Meiji Memorial Hall, which was originally used for governmental meetings, including discussions surrounding the drafting of the Meiji Constitution in the late 19th century. Today it is used for Shinto weddings.

Japan Travel: Stroll through the Bamboo Groves in Arashiyama Mountains, Kyoto, Japan
While visiting Arashiyama Mountains in Kyoto, it is strongly recommended visitors take a stroll through the bamboo groves. Visitors have the option of walking, cycling, or using a rickshaw.
From the main street in Arashiyama, the entrance to the bamboo groves is to the north of Tenryu-ji Temple. There is just one path through the groves.
Along the path, visitors will feel like they have been transported into a different world. Visitors will be blessed if there is a light wind, as the wind will cause the tall bamboo stalks to gently sway. If the visitors have an opportunity to see the light emerging from within the bamboo stalks, again, this is another amazing moment the bamboo groves may present.
Along the path, visitors will approach the Nonomiya Shrine. There are several deities here. Many visit this shrine to pay tribute to the deity for finding a good marriage partner. Also, the deity for easy child birth resides here.
Bamboo from the groves is used to manufacture everyday products as well. Among them are baskets, cups, boxes and mats. These bamboo items have been manufactured in local workshops for centuries.
