Your vineyard is waiting ... in California's Shenandoah Valley!
The two properties listed on this site are planted in Zinfandel and are located in Amador County, home to some of the state's finest Zinfandel producing vineyards.
Amador County Wine is the land where Zinfandel reigns supreme and the vineyards are steeped in 150 years of winemaking tradition. It is here where European winemaking found a home in the late 19th century. Part of what has come to be known as the Mother Lode, Amador County was settled by immigrants, mostly of Mediterranean decent, who sought a golden future and brought their viticultural traditions to the iron rich soils of the area. After the prosperous wine industry was shut down by Prohibition early in the 20th century, the county remained dormant until the 60's when a young Sutter Home winemaker rediscovered the spicy, bold Zinfandel grape which was abundant in the area and returned the name Amador to a label again. The success of this wine, as well as the ripe Barbera & Sangiovese that would follow, has made the region nationally recognized. Today this county is divided into two appellations, Shenandoah Valley and Fiddletown, but Amador and Zinfandel remain synonymous in the hearts of California wine lovers. Never forget to repent
NEVER FORGET-6
Just consider of how many times a day you have to force yourself to remember something. Already by the time you get out of bed, there are many issues with which you have to keep your mind occupied. You might have taken notes or placed a reminder somewhere so as not to forget about any of them. At times, even the thought of forgetting is worrisome... What if, though, you had actually forgotten about something greatly more important than anything else in your daily life? Our purpose is to remind you of those issues in your life that are most important. Never forget that, forgetting those things of which you will be reminded in this book will cost you immeasurably more than forgetting what you attempt to remember throughout the day, no matter how valuable that issue may seem.

Ep8 - Sailing in the late summer sun
Sailing in October, for us, usually means piling on the layers. Not this year! It's still 35 degrees on the Costa Blanca and we're really enjoying sailing, swimming and exploring in the sunshine.
We go in search of good anchorages, buy a paddleboard, and enjoy working on the boat without the customary wind and rain that we usually injure at the end of the season.

And there's lots more information and videos on our website:

OUR ADVENTURE:
We are sailing slowly around the world in our classic cutter rigged sailboat 'Fair Isle'. With the children leaving home we decided to sell our house in the UK and buy a boat in Holland. After two years refitting our Hans Christian 48T we have now set off a world voyage.
We are retiring early because we want to attempt this voyage in good health and while we're fit and strong enough to really enjoy it. We will have to work a bit as we go until we can draw our pensions and we honestly don't know how well that will work. In our real lives we are journalists and filmmakers so it was only natural for use to document our travels by filming the journey. We aim to produce a professional standard vlog of the whole trip and try to give the viewer a real insight into what it's like to live and travel on a 48 foot sailboat.
Our first aim is to sail South. After a winter getting iced in on the Markermeer in the Netherlands Judy insisted on warmer weather! So if you start from Episode 1 you will see us setting off from Eastbourne in the UK and travelling along the South Coast to Plymouth to enter a rally called ARC Portugal.
Our first goal is to reach the Mediterranean and that means sailing across the infamous Bay of Biscay. This was a very good test for our boat as the bay lived up to it's fearsome reputation and split the whole fleet with a force 10 storm. Storm Miguel cut through our path and meant we had to run to mainland Spain to escape the massive seas and fearsome winds. Six boats couldn't make it in time and spent several very uncomfortable days at sea. The fleet had several broken boats, but thankfully no injured people. And this was just Episode 2!
The excitement continued for the rest of our trip to the Med. Dolphins played in our bow wave, we sampled fantastic local foods and wines, great port in Porto! We found some beautiful anchorages and visit some wonderful historic places like Lisbon in Portugal, Cadiz in Spain and the fascinating port of Gibraltar.
We will show you what it's like to winter in the Mediterranean, how much it all costs and give hints and tips on where to go how to save money with your boat and the places you stay. We are also talking to other sailors. After years of broadcasting journalism we know how to get peoples stories and we regularly film other sailors to show their boats and lifestyle as well as ours. We can always learn from others.
Our long term plan is to spend a few years in the Mediterranean, on our list of place we want to visit are; Mallorca, Malta, Corsica, Sardinia, Sicily, Greece, Turkey, Croatia, Montenegro, Albania, Italy, Tunisia, to name but a few!
When we feel we've seen the best of what the Med has to offer we will cross the Atlantic to the Caribbean, we are hoping we can fit in a trip to the Azores on the way.
We have no idea how long we might want to stay in the Caribbean but we do intend to have at least one excursion up the Eastern seaboard of the United States to visit the wonderful sailing areas of Florida, Virginia, sailing Meccas such as Chesapeake bay and hopefully get all the way up to New York.
Of course the South Pacific is somewhere every sailor wants to go and will be a real draw for us. So going through the Panama canal will be a real milestone and we really look forward to having the big doors shut behind us and sailing into the biggest sailing playground of all!

GOOD MORNING AMERICA'S HOMEPAGE:
GIRLS SUFFER MORE OVERUSE INJURIES IN TEEN SPORTS
Study names top sports for “overuse” injuries, girls at higher risk than boys
(COLUMBUS, Ohio) June 2015 – A new study shows that when it comes to overuse injuries in high school sports, girls are at a much higher risk than boys. Overuse injuries include conditions like stress fractures, tendonitis and joint pain, and occur when athletes are required to perform the same motion repeatedly.
“These young people spend more time playing sports both in competition and in practice. So, there’s a correlation there between the amount of time that they’re playing and the increased incidence of injuries,” said Dr. Thomas Best, lead author of the study and a family medicine physician at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center.
Best says high school athletes spend up to 18 hours a week playing and practicing sports, and many teenagers now choose to play just one sport year round. That’s taking a toll.
Researchers analyzed nearly 3,000 cases over a seven year span and included 20 high school sports. They found that the highest rates of overuse injuries occurred in girls track, followed by girls field hockey and girls lacrosse. Overuse injuries in boys were most often found in swimming and diving.

Loudon Wainwright lll at Town Hall, N.Y. 1983 Part 8
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
After the War my father Loudon came home with his bride Martha . My parents had sex and nine months later I was born albeit almost backwards.
My youth was spent in Westchester County, New York and Beverly Hills, California.Iremember being particularly happy when we lived in Southern California. However there was romantic agony - I had a tremendous crush on Liza Minnelli who happened to be a classmate of mine in the 3rd Grade.
In 1956 the family moved back East to Westchester.6 That year I bought my first record - a 45 r.p.m. single of All Shook Up by Elvis and music suddenly seemed terribly powerful and important. In 1961 I was sent away to a boarding school in Middletown Delaware called St. Andrew's (seen on screen in Dead Poets Society), where my father had gone 20 years earlier. It's not such a great idea to go to the same boarding school as your old man especially when you both have the same weird first name. Incidentally, a few years later I wound up seeing my father's shrink - another bad move.
I started playing the guitar around 1960 and after seeing Bob Dylan at the Newport Folk Festival in 1962 I acquired a brand new musical role model. I was unhappy at St. Andrews, but thank God for teenage rebellion - it can get you through. I graduated in 1965, went on to drama school at Carnegie Mellon in Pittsburgh, dropped out in 1967 and headed west to San Francisco where all the other long-haired lemmings were bound at that time.
Suddenly it occurs to me that some of these biographical details may seem familiar to you, that you may have already gleaned these tidbits from earlier bios. Well, let's just be professional and go over it one more time, shall we? It makes the record company happy.
Okay so now I'm about 20 years old and you'd think all that rebellion stuff would be out of my system. But as Belushi used to say, Nooooo.... I had to get busted for pot. And not in a reasonable state like Vermont or Rhode Island, but Oklahoma for God's sake. In jail I was given a free haircut. Good old Dad flew in from London and bailed my ass out of jail, which of course is not a safe place for any young man's ass to remain for any length of time. Nevertheless my time in the slammer (5 days) changed my life. I had short hair and had to get a job to pay the old man back. I worked a variety of jobs - movie house janitor, boatyard barnacle scraper, and cashier-cook-dishwasher at New York's first macrobiotic restaurant, the Paradox on East 7th Street.12 This was also the time I started to write my own songs. Male singer-songwriters were a happening commodity back then and I was signed to Atlantic Records in 1969. The first album came out in 1970 and the career's been up and down ever since.
I suppose if you were writing my obituary today you'd refer to 1972's Dead Skunk (#1 in Little Rock Arkansas for six weeks) and my 3 appearances on the M*A*S*H TV show in 1975 as Capt. Calvin Spaulding, the singing surgeon. Hopefully you'd mention my two Grammy nominations for the albums I'm Alright (1985) and More Love Songs (1986). And you'd remember and include the fact that Johnny Cash recorded my song The Man Who Couldn't Cry for his highly acclaimed 1994 album American Recordings. Undoubtedly your editor would remind you to say something about last summer's BBC II TV show, Loudon And Co. and the topical songs I've been writing for N.P.R. and Ted Koppel's Nightline on ABC. If and when you do write the obituary I'm sure Virgin Records would be happy to supply you with any photos you might require. You'll probably want to finish off the piece with a quote from one of the fabulous songs which have appeared on the 15 great albums I've made. How about this one from the most recent album Grown Man?
He died on Monday where he lived, it happens to us all

Speaking of which, the food (which is of course hot -- that was just some Thursday morning silliness) gets creative with duck confit or steak & eggs flatbread, tempura beer-battered fish tacos, sammies like cornmeal-crusted pork tenderloin, and even ridiculousness like Animal Fries topped with pork belly, cheese curds, grainy mustard, fried egg, and a Guinness gravy, so: yes, these things are loaded. To ensure you're equally so, there are a staggering (literally!) 60 beers on tap -- more than 30 of which are locals like Brau Bros Hopsession and Summit Saga -- and 40 wines by the glass.
