The site was purchased by John Batman in 1837 at Melbourne's first Crown land sale. On the site was built a home for his children, which became a schoolhouse in 1839. Warehouses were erected on the site after the schoolhouse was razed in 1853. The Princes Bridge Hotel opened there on 1 July 1861. The Hotel was renamed to Young and Jackson after the Irish diggers who took it over in 1875, Henry Young and Thomas Jackson.[1]
The hotel is an amalgamation of five separate buildings of two and three storeys, with the original 1853 bluestone building designed as a three-storey residence, with a butcher's shop on the ground floor. It was later extended in both directions, with all buildings rendered and painted to match each other by the 1920s.[1] Since the 1920s the exterior hotel has been dominated by large advertising signs, even to this day.

Radio 3AK Young & Jackson Hotel Melbourne (1986)
In 1986 one Melbourne's most iconic landmarks the Young & Jackson Hotel was sold to an interstate foreigner - Perth business tycoon Alan Bond.
On the day that the sale was announced, Melbourne radio personality Graham Braddy of station 3AK paid a visit to the main bar of the hotel to chat to the drinkers about the controversial move. Some had emphatic views on the subject. Others seemed more undecided. Most were probably too pissed to care by that late stage of the day (12.30 pm). But, the final gent who, somehow, managed to get himself into the upright position to comment on the situation, had a lot to say. Unfortunately , the situation that he wanted to talk about didn't seem to have much, if anything, to do with either Young & Jackson or Alan Bond. He did, however, offer to satisfy Mr Braddy before they went their separate ways.

3 Spooky Ghost Tours to do in Melbourne Australia
In this video I will show you 3 ghost tours to do in Melbourne. If you want to learn about some of Melbourne’s most haunted spots then check out this video. While I didn’t capture any photos of ghosts or anything paranormal, on these tours they do show some photos of ghost that people have taken in the Old Melbourne Gaol and Pentridge Prison. If you are looking for something different to do in Melbourne check out these creepy ghost tours.
The first tour is of Old Melbourne Ghost tour which will take you around Melbourne’s haunted places around the city. Find out about the ghost at Flinders Street station or the haunted Young and Jackson Hotel. Learn about the Hosier Lane ghost and one of Melbourne’s most infamous ghosts of Frederici Baker who haunts the Princess Theatre on Spring Street. This tour is run by lantern tours, see video for more details and prices.
Old Melbourne Gaol Ghost Tour. One of Melbourne’s most popular tourist attractions, this gaol is also said to be haunted. Hear ghostly stories from workers at the Old Melbourne Gaol. From door slamming by themselves to footsteps where no one is around. Old Melbourne Goal is a creepy place to visit at night. A great tour to do in Melbourne.
Pentridge Prison D Division Ghost Tour. This prison is said to be one of the most haunted places in Australia. When you do the tour of this dark and creepy prison you will feel the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. Said to be haunted by Chopper Reed and the Brownout Strangler. This prison has some scary ghost stories. Take lots of photos you may see a ghost in Pentridge. Of the 3 ghost tours I found this the best. I highly enjoyed the tour, it was informative and interesting.

Chinatown Melbourne Info:
Chinatown (Chinese: 墨爾本華埠) is an ethnic enclave in the Central Business District (CBD) of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Centred at the eastern end of Little Bourke Street, it extends between the corners of Swanston and Spring Streets, and consists of numerous laneways, alleys and arcades. Established in the 1850s during the Victorian gold rush, it is notable for being the longest continuous Chinese settlement in the Western World and the oldest Chinatown in the Southern Hemisphere.
Melbourne's Chinatown has played an important role in establishing the culture of Chinese immigrants in Australia and is still home to many Chinese restaurants, cultural venues, businesses and places of worship. Today, Melbourne's Chinatown is a major tourist attraction, known for its architectural heritage, annual festivals and cuisines of Chinese, Thai, Japanese, Indian, Malaysian, Vietnamese and Korean origins.
Beyond Chinatown and the CBD, Melbourne's Chinese community is well-represented in other areas of the city, such as Box Hill and Glen Waverley. Chinatown is home to the Chinese Museum.
Flinders Street Info:
Flinders Street is a notable street in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Running roughly parallel to the Yarra River, Flinders Street forms the southern edge of the Hoddle Grid. It is exactly 1 mi (1.609 km) in length and one and a half chains (99 ft, 30 m) in width. It is named for the explorer Matthew Flinders, erroneously credited with discovering Port Phillip at the time of its naming. It extends eastwards as far as Spring Street and the Treasury Gardens and westwards past Batman's Hill to the Melbourne Docklands. As the closest street to the river, Flinders Street serviced Melbourne's original river port. Customs House, now the site for Victoria's Immigration Museum, is on Flinders Street.
The street is home to Flinders Street station, the central station in Melbourne's suburban rail network. Tram routes 70 and 75, as well as the City Circle route, run along Flinders Street, and the Flinders Street Viaduct runs parallel to the street, linking the city's two major railway stations.
Other landmarks on Flinders Street include Federation Square, St Paul's Cathedral, Young and Jackson Hotel, the Banana Alley Vaults, the old Herald and Weekly Times building, Melbourne Aquarium and Batman Park, which adjoins the Yarra River. It was once home to the Melbourne Fish Market, an ornate building constructed in 1890, covering 23,000 square metres, and of similar design to Flinders Street Station. The market was demolished between 1958 and 1960 after which the site became a public carpark. The site is now home to the three towers of the Northbank Place complex which includes office space, residential apartments, retail outlets and a multi-level carpark.
