WELCOME to SALVADOR de BAHIA BRAZIL - TOUR and VLOG - 2019
Bahia is considered the cultural heart of Brazil, and fourth largest state located in the northern part of the country. Today we are in Salvador, the capital of Bahia located along the coast and noted for its African and European heritage.
Salvador de Bahia was the first Colonial capital of Brazil. The city is one of the oldest in the New World, founded by the Portuguese settlers in 1549. We try the region’s exquisites cuisine, meet the friendly locals, explore the historic center of Pelourinho, and listen to the drum beats of Olodum.

SALVADOR, BAHIA - Before ever going to Brazil, Salvador was one of the top cities I wanted to visit - and finally this is the time. In this all out ultimate street food tour of Salvador we’ll focus especially on Afro-Brazilian food and culture, the heart of Salvador, Bahia. The people were amazing, the food was delicious. #Salvador #BrazilianFood #Acarajé #streetfood
Sao Joaquim Market - To begin this street food tour we started in the morning at Sao Joaquim Market, one of the main fruits and vegetables market, with restaurant and food as well. One thing you’ll see all over the market, different from other parts of Brazil is dendê oil, the orange palm oil originally from West Africa.
Recanto Da Lucia - At the market we ate breakfast at Recanto Da Lucia, a small local Brazilian food stall serving amazing dishes like feijoada and pirão. Total price - 80 BRL ($20.61)
Dona Susana - Next up on this Afro-Brazilian food tour of Salvador, we drover to Dona Susana, a restaurant under the highway, with a million dollar view. The main dish to eat in Bahia is Moqueca Bahiana, a stew of fish or seafood in palm oil and coconut milk. Her’s was outstanding as was the ensopado de camarão and her version of pirão. One of the most stunning locations so far in Brazil. Total price - 87 BRL ($22.41)
Pelourinho - This is the center of the historic city of Salvador, with a distinct Portuguese style and influence. If you look around, you might think you’re in Portugal.
Capoeira - Pelourinho is a center of art and culture and I had a chance to learn about Capoeira, an Afro-Brazilian martial art, but a dance at the same time. It’s amazing to watch and they even volunteered me to stand as they came dangerously close to kicking me!
Elevador Lacerda - In Pelourinho you’ll also find the Elevador Lacerda, which takes you from lover Salvador to the upper part of Salvador.
Price - .15 BRL ($0.03) per person
Mercado Modelo - One of the main central old city markets in Salvador, Bahia is Mercado Modelo, and while most of the market is pretty touristy, Jacibar on the outside serves up delicious local dishes. We ordered Xinxin de Galinha, Bobó de camarão, and Caruru. It was an incredible meal. Total price - 180 BRL ($46.37)
Tambores e Cores - Samba beats represent Salvador, Bahia, and the thundering drums are a must see when you’re in Bahia, Brazil.
Boteco Di Janela - In the evening we went to Boteco Di Janela, a bar and restaurant, friendly owners, and delicious seafood. We ate sarapatel - a blood stew, and sururu - small local mussels.
Acarajé da Ivone - If there’s one Brazilian street food snack you have to eat in Salvadar, it’s Acarajé, a life-changing bun of blackeyed peas deep fried in palm oil and stuffed with vatapa, caruru, shrimp, and salad. It’s is unbelievable and the owners at Acarajé da Ivone were equally as friendly and hospitable. I also had an Abara, the same thing except the black eyed pea fritter is steamed instead of fried. Price - 8 BRL ($2.06) per
Salvador, Bahia, in Brazil, exceeded my expectations - the food and people were outstanding and made it a city and destination I will never forget. What a stunning combination of natural beauty, food, and hospitality.

Salvador da Bahia (Brazil) Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Salvador da Bahia in Brazil.
Well sheltered, the culturally most interesting historic city in Brazil nestles in a calm bay alongside the Atlantic Ocean, Salvador Da Bahia, former capital of the Portuguese colonies. In 1549 more than a thousand Europeans, among them Captain Tomé De Souza, founded a town and colony and up until 1763, Salvador Da Bahia was the capital of Brazil, its wealth having been derived from tobacco, sugar cane and cacao. The Franciscan Order commenced with the religious education of the Tupinamba Indians and in addition to the feudal civic houses, a splendid monastery and church were built. Ordem Primeira De Saó Francisco is one of the most splendid Baroque complexes in Brazil. Its arcades are particularly impressive as they possess a contemplative atmosphere with walls covered with azulejos. In the old town there is nothing to indicate the slave markets of old and the degrading treatment suffered by both captive Africans and local Indians. In the eighteenth century the plantation owners flaunted their wealth and decorated female slaves with precious jewellery. Salvador Da Bahia is a melting pot of various cultures. A fine town of the former white colonial masters and a living space for African gods!

City Description:
Salvador, the capital of Brazil’s northeastern state of Bahia, is known for its Portuguese colonial architecture, Afro-Brazilian culture and a tropical coastline. The Pelourinho neighborhood is its historic heart, with cobblestone alleys opening onto large squares, colorful buildings and baroque churches such as São Francisco, featuring gilt woodwork. From Pelourinho, the Elevador Lacerda art deco elevator descends a cliff to the waterfront and the Mercado Modelo, a large crafts market. Beachside Rio Vermelho is the heart of the city’s restaurant and nightlife scene. At the tip of the peninsula, the Santo Antônio da Barra fort and its accompanying lighthouse and nautical museum overlook All Saints’ Bay. At street stalls all over Salvador, Baianas (women in traditional all-white outfits) sell acarajés and abarás, Afro-Brazilian dishes based on black-eyed peas. Carnaval time brings samba and axé music, massive street parties and parades.
Weather and Events:
The weather is warm and humid year-round, with more rain in winter (Jul–Aug). Peak seasons include summer (Dec–Mar) and Jul–Sep, particularly around New Year’s and Carnaval (Feb/Mar, dates vary), one of the world’s largest. Other major events include the Bom Jesus dos Navegantes festival (Jan), with its boat parade, and the Iemanjá Festival (Feb), dedicated to the Afro-Brazilian goddess of the sea.

Travel Moment: Guide To Rio Vermelho || The Best Beach in Salvador Bahia, Brazil!
Went to Farol da Barra this week for some much need rest and relaxation! It's so fascinating to me that I've been so drawn to the beach since I arrive to Salvador. In other places I've never wanted to go to the beach or if I did I couldn't stay that long. However Brazil has an energy about it specifically Bahia which I like to think is more spiritual than anything else and with that energy I've been feeling so recharged with my beach moments. On this particular day we ran into what I thought was a workout team shooting a video and it was a dope so I decided to share! hope you guys enjoy and I hope you guys are loving these travel moments in between our official vlog post!
Salvador de Bahia Brazil
Known as the Land of Happiness, this tropical port city is home to a unique blend of cultures and ethnicities, making it one of the world's most fascinating and exotic locations. The historic city center, Pelhourino, delights visitors with its immaculately preserved colonial architecture and baroque churches, while the Barra beachfront neighborhood is filled with hip nightclubs and outdoor cafes. Bahia's capital of Salvador (the city was generally referred to as Bahia) is located on a cape of land sticking south south-west into the Atlantic Ocean. And although it sits well within the tropics at a southern latitude of thirteen degrees, it receives a refreshing sea-breeze which seldom falters until the wee hours of the morning when things have generally cooled off anyway. The city sits on a huge bay, a Baia de Todos os Santos (the Bay of All Saints), and the topography is predominently hill and valley.
