Video 2016-2-83 (3324) ***OLYMPIC GAMES RIO2016*** part 1 Some history of Summer Olympic Games
SOME HISTORY OF SUMMER OLYMPIC GAMES!
The 2016 Summer Olympics officially known as the Games of the XXXI Olympiad, and commonly known as Rio 2016, is a major international multi-sport event in the tradition of the Olympic Games due to take place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 5 to 21 August 2016. A record number of countries are participating in a record number of sports. More than 10,500 athletes from 206 National Olympic Committees (NOCs), including first time entrants Kosovo and South Sudan, are scheduled to take part. With 306 sets of medals, the games will feature 28 Olympic sports — including rugby sevens and golf, which were added by the International Olympic Committee in 2009. These sporting events will take place at 33 venues in the host city and at 5 venues in the cities of Sao Paulo (Brazil's largest city), Belo Horizonte, Salvador, Brasília (Brazil's capital), and Manaus.
These will be the first Summer Olympic Games under the IOC presidency of Thomas Bach. The host city of Rio de Janeiro was announced at the 121st IOC Session held in Copenhagen, Denmark, on 2 October 2009. Rio will become the first South American city to host the Summer Olympics. These will be the first games to be held in a Portuguese-speaking country, the first to be held entirely during the host country's winter season (the 2000 games began on 15 September – five days before the Southern Hemisphere's vernal equinox), the first since 1968 to be held in Latin America, and the first since 2000 (and third overall) to be held in the Southern Hemisphere.
The lead-up to these games have been marked by political controversies—including the corruption and instability of the country's federal government, as well as prominent health and safety concerns surrounding the Zika virus and significant pollution in the Guanabara Bay.

2018 Asian Games - Youth Olympic Games Medal Design Award (OFFICIAL)
The 2018 Asian Games which was officially known as the 18th Asian Games and also known as Jakarta–Palembang 2018, was a pan-Asian multi-sport event held from 18 August to 2 September 2018 in the Indonesian cities of Jakarta and Palembang.
The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) originally awarded the games to Hanoi, Vietnam in November 2012, but the hosting rights were given up seventeen months later. Indonesia, which originally finished second in the bid, was considered as the strongest replacement candidate and eventually awarded the rights amid the 2014 games. Surabaya, the city put forward during the bid, was replaced by Jakarta and Palembang, having hosted the 2011 Southeast Asian Games together.
For the first time, the Asian Games were co-hosted in two cities; the Indonesian capital of Jakarta (which is hosting the Games for the first time since 1962), and Palembang, the capital of the South Sumatra province. Events were held in and around the two cities, including venues in Bandung and some places in the provinces of West Java and Banten. The opening and closing ceremonies of the Games were held at Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium in Jakarta. Also for the first time, eSports and canoe polo were contested as demonstration sports.
China led the medal tally for the tenth consecutive time. North Korea and South Korea march under the Korean Unification Flag at the opening ceremony and for the first time competed as a unified team in some events. They also won one—and first—gold medal as a unified team. Japanese swimmer Rikako Ikee was announced as the most valuable player (MVP) of the Games. There were 6 world, 18 Asian and 86 Asian Games records broken during the Games.
You can now design your way to the Olympic capital. ntering is the easy part: go to medal-design-competition.com, then find your inspiration and submit your very own design. The competition opens today 14 February 2019 and runs until 8 April 2019.
The winning design and two runners-up will be selected by a judging panel made up of the Young Change-Makers+ and Young Reporters who have been involved in in previous editions of the Games. Also joining the panel will be the Chair of the IOC Coordination Commission for Lausanne 2020, Olympian Danka Bartekova; Virginie Faivre, Lausanne 2020 President and ski freestyle legend; and Viviane Morey, dean at Eracom, Lausanne's professional school of applied arts and communication, whose students created the 2020 Youth Olympic Games mascot.
The winning design will be selected at the end of April 2019, and this will then feature on the gold, silver and bronze medals awarded to athletes from 9 to 22 January 2020. The reverse of the medal will be designed by the Lausanne 2020 Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee after this contest, in order to have a look that works well with the winning design of this year’s competition.
In addition to the prestige of creating Olympic history, the winning designer will win a trip to Lausanne to enjoy the Opening Ceremony and witness the awarding of their medals at the sports competitions, as well as a full set of medals featuring their design for them to cherish.
So, what are you waiting for? Create a piece of Olympic history and enter your medal design!

Germany: Olympic team equipped with mosquito-protecting fabric for Rio 2016
A Berlin startup called Permetex has developed an insect-repellant fabric that keep insects away and even kills them if they come in contact with the fabric, as explained by Permetex founder Ellen Woerk in Berlin, Thursday.
Woerk stated that the effect on the insects depends on how long they are on the material and how big or small they are and they go down faster and if they are longer on the sheet they die.
