Japan travel: You won’t believe this place!
#Japan #footbath #onsen
During my japan travel's in yamaguchi I visited yuda onsen visitor centre which is a kind of themed cafe. A hot spring footbath themed cafe.
This made for a very unique and different experience where you can drink and have snacks at the same time you can select from a range of footbaths!
Tasting the waters in Yuda-Spa
The hot spring water in Yamaguchi City is drinkable and said to be good for illnesses of the digestive tract. It tasted, as one might expect, like hot mineral water.
A day in Hell’s Valley Vlog #049
This is the last and final video for the 3rd part installment of Hokkaido Escapades Vlog. I went to Noboribetsu after going to Furano and Biei to find out for myself what the fuss is all about this place.
I was speechless and in awe when I saw the Blue Pond, got mesmerized looking at the beautiful rows of flowers in full bloom at Shikisai no Oka. I was blown away by how cute the bears are at the Bear Park.
For this video, I will feature the Oyunuma Brook Foot Bath which is also one of the most visited place in the area and the Hell’s Valley which is volcanic caldera created by the eruption of Mt. Hiyoriyama and is the largest hot spring source in Noboribetsu Onsen.
Jigokudani is a suitable name for a place where scaldingly hot water and powerful jets of steam burst from uncountable hot spring vents and holes, all with a strong, rotten-egg like sulfur smell.

INTERACTIVE ARCHIVES - playlist
Tamás Szvet: five project documentation: HD video 5’06”min.
1. LIGHT SEANCE / interactive light installation / dimension variable / Kunsthalle Budapest / HU / 2015-16
Made especially for the space of the Kunsthalle Budapest, the installation seeks to transpose artistic research into practice by actively involving the viewer. In these works which depend on the recipient’s activity, the viewer is recast as a researcher, creator and discoverer, and the works are projected in the exhibition space by means of light controlled by the viewer. The interactive light installations give us insights into Hungarian light art in the past ninety years. The exhibited reflections are installed on mirror surfaces in the dark exhibition space, which the viewers can project on the walls with the help of torches.
2. KEEPING SHADOWS / interactive light installation / archive images from Mito and Mine Public Library, and Yuda Onsen Ryokan / projector, 650W light beam / dimension variable / AIAV Yamaguchi / JP / 2016
The installation invites the visitor to participate. I collected archive images form Mito -and Mine public libraries, and from the Yuda Onsen Ryokan Cooperative. In the exhibition an over lighted projection hides the images, which only became visible throw interaction. While visitors steps into the light, their body became the medium. In my work 'shadow’ symbolizes the past, memory, tradition, and the culture itself. The inspiration of my research is Junichiro Tanizaki’s essay: In Praise of Shadows (1933), introduces the important of shadow in Japanese culture.
3. FILTERING LIGHT / interactive light installation / archive pictures / slide projector bamboo, handmade Japanese washi paper by Toyomi Suzuki, tatami mats dimension variable / AIAV Yamaguchi / JP / 2016
The installation based on the pinhole phenomenon. In Japan this phenomenon appeared naturally because of the fusuma doors, and the paper paneled shoji walls. So the traditional Japanese architecture is actually a camera itself. To explore this idea, I projected archive images focused into the air of the exhibition space. To see them, visitors need to use the bamboo-shoji cameras. Watching throw the hole, the paper soften the light, and trying to recreate the atmosphere of the past.
4. LAYERS / video installation / wood, glass, archive photo, HD video 1’03”, 30x30x100cm Seoul Museum of Art, Nanji Exhibition Hall, Seoul / KR / 2013
Light and its reflection may create ghost like pictures, as the 16th-century scientist Giambattista della Porta had already pointed out in his study: Magia Naturalis (Natural Magic) 1584. The illusionistic effect appears when a reflective yet transparent material (like glass) and an object lighted up from an unseen spot is placed in a certain position, so the image reflection in the glass appears like a ghost. From another point of view, the same idea works with unhidden objects, just placing two spaces together. The phenomenon mixed with moving image is creating an interface, showing the layers of time.
5. AUGMENTED MEMORY / computer based interactive Augmented Reality installation / dimension variable / Parthenon -Frieze Hall Budapest HU / 2012
Time and memory became the main topics of an experiment based on Augmented Reality. The installation was part of a PhD research project into the artistic usage and possibilities of immersive and augmented virtual reality. Using Augmented Reality, the past and the present placed together, and time passed became visible. Would it be possible to recall a place with interactive technology? Could virtual systems take us somewhere else in time? Alongside these questions, the main idea was to show the layers of time in connection with technology. Furthermore, the experience intended to investigate the possibilities to observe a space in relation to time and history.

Votive Phallus (Contains Adult Language)
This is a phallus for offering to a temple in Mara Kannon Temple, Tawarayama Hot Spring Resort town Yamaguchi Prefecture. The temple is to pray for the penis of the child of a deposed feudal lord who hid out in the region disguised as a girl, which was severed when he was captured. Those that purchase these ceramic phalli usually leave them at the temple (which has much in common with a Shrine) to pray for success in the making of children. There is a brief yearly festival in Golden Week in May.
The shrine where these can be purchased is about 90 minutes drive from the Ajisu Jamboree. It is the tourist destination that recieves the most attention in a backpackers guide to Yamaguchi.
