20150625: Day 18, The Yukon Beringia Interpretive Center
While camping at the Caribou RV campground just outside of Whitehorse we searched for venues to fill in our remaining time in the Whitehorse, Yukon Territory, Canada area. We discovered the presence of the Yukon Beringia Interpretive Center.
Beringia refers to a land mass that 10,000 years ago joined Eurasia with the North American Continent. The Center, along with the National Park Service, share a common belief in the existence of Beringia.
The Center focuses on climate change as being responsible for the exposure and subsequent disappearance of this connecting land mass. With the onset of the Ice Age, glaciers absorbed much of the ocean water, thus exposing the connective bridge land mass. With the arrival of warmer temperatures, the glaciers returned water to the ocean, inundating much of Beringia under glacial melt water.
The term climate change has gotten a bad rap, the result of ideologically-driven politicians trying to cover up their faux science efforts to push global warming theories on U. S. citizens in efforts to redistribute American wealth around the globe and to present a wedge issue between American voters. Having been caught fudging global warming data for political use, in an effort to rehabilitate themselves they substituted the term global warming with that of climate change.
Climate change is real, has been going on since the inception of planet Earth. It has been responsible for forming our ecosystems, where our planet's inhabitants, plants, animals...exist and is the causation of migratory efforts by mankind and other animals wanting to live in habitable places on the planet.
A definition of climate change: Climate change is a change in the statistical distribution of weather patterns when that change lasts for an extended period of time (i.e., decades to millions of years, as in Ice Age). Climate change may refer to a change in average weather conditions, or in the time variation of weather around longer-term average conditions (i.e., more or fewer extreme weather events).
The study of global warming, or more accurately planet temperatures, is but one, singular part of climate change science, and does NOT paint the whole picture of interest when examining the phenomenon of weather.
Global warming activists argue carbon-dioxide emissions are destroying the planet, but the climate impacts of carbon dioxide are minimal, at worst. Activists would also have you believe fossil-fuel emissions have driven carbon-dioxide concentrations to their highest levels in history. The Obama-era Environmental Protection Agency went so far as to classify carbon dioxide as a toxic pollutant, and it established a radical goal of closing all of America’s coal-fired power plants.
Claims of unprecedented carbon-dioxide levels ignore most of Earth’s 4.6-billion-year history. Relative to Earth’s entire record, carbon-dioxide levels are at historically low levels; they only appear high when compared to the dangerously low levels of carbon dioxide that occurred in Earth’s very recent history. The geologic record reveals carbon dioxide has almost always been in Earths’ atmosphere in much greater concentrations than it is today.
Consider climate change as the real science, and do not get confused over the political issue of global warming when studying Beringia!

YTMRex Learns about Beringia
#YTMRex is interested in - not only all things fossil fueled - but also the other interesting delicious transportation stories involving people, dogs and camels. Today she had a great tour learning about early transportation at the Yukon Beringia Interpretive Centre.
Incidentally, YTM and the Yukon Beringia Interpretive Centre are both open Sundays and Mondays 12-5 and the two organizations offer a Combo Pass.
If you are at the YTM, or anywhere else, and you happen to see YTMRex… please don't be scared - she is really quite nice. She is particularly lovely if you take a picture of her and tag her #YTMRex - she is a little arrogant and likes to see herself on Twitter and Facebook and the rest.

5 Top-Rated Tourist Attractions in Whitehorse
Whitehorse, like Dawson City, owes its existence to the Klondike gold-rush, which began in 1897. Having survived the arduous and sometimes deadly journey from Skagway over White Pass, gold prospectors had to negotiate the Miles Canyon and Whitehorse rapids before descending the Yukon River to Dawson's riches. From the first arrivals, a small settlement grew up on the river's right bank, opposite the present town. The seething, foaming waters of the rapids, rearing like white steeds, gave the settlement its name - Whitehorse (although nothing remains to be seen of the rapids).
Home to half the population of the Yukon, Whitehorse has grown into a major center for arts and culture in recent years. The small but lively territory capital is a hub of the north, standing at the intersection of the Alaska and Klondike Highways, only about 80 kilometers north of the provincial border with British Columbia.
