Yume Kyobashi Castle Road is a road just outside Hikone Castle's outer moat. It has been recently redesigned in a style combining the look and atmosphere of a former castle town with a pleasant, modern shopping street.
The buildings along the road have been designed like town houses from the Edo Period with white walls blackened roofs and lattice doors in order to achieve the castle town look. Various restaurants, boutiques, souvenir shops and cafes line the street, which makes for a pleasant stroll after a visit to the castle.
Hours: Varies by shop. Most are open between 10:00 and 17:30.
Closed: Varies by shop, but many shops are closed on Tuesdays.

Hikone Castle Moat Boat Ride 彦根城お堀めぐり
From March 2007, the Koedo Hikone NPO started operating yakata-bune Japanese-style boats in the moats of Hikone Castle as a tourist attraction for the castle's 400th anniversary. They operate 6 rides per day around the castle, taking 50 min. It certainly gives you a different perspective of the castle as you see the moat, castle tower, and bridges from the water. I went to the Hikone castle in Shiga prefecture. It is about 2 hours away from Osaka by train. Hikone was a small town but has many historical and traditional Japanese views.

【ひこにゃん発祥の地】彦根キャッスルロードを歩く【日本散歩】Walking at Hikone Castle Road.
滋賀県の彦根にある彦根キャッスルロード。
国宝彦根城とひこにゃんで知られる街ですが、街並みも整えられていて観光地として人気があります。
訪れたのが正月元旦だったためほとんどのお店が閉まっていましたが、街の雰囲気を感じるには十分。
動画内にはありませんが、彦根城のお堀や石垣もとても綺麗で見ごたえがあります。
またいつか通常の土日に賑わっている彦根キャッスルロードを体感してみたいと思いました。

More than 90,000 examples centering on the art works and ancient literature regarding the ruling Ii clan are amassed here. The wide collection including armor, swords, tea utensils, paintings & writings, and Noh costumes is on display in the Omote Goten, the restored residence of the castle lord. In addition, there are also a garden and a Noh stage built in 1800 that can be viewed.

Hikone Castle (彦根城 Hikone-jō?) is an Japanese Edo-period castle in the city of Hikone, in Shiga Prefecture. It is considered the most significant historical building in Shiga. Hikone is one of only 12 Japanese castles with the original keep, and one of only four castles listed as a national treasure.

名古屋へ行くのに 行きだけ青春18切符を使いました。和歌山から彦根や長浜、和歌山から姫路 とかは 快速があるので 青春でも不便に感じません。
ちょっと ひこにゃん見てこよう！って軽いノリで行ったんですが、彦根は1日ではまわれない。見たいところ半分も見れず、また行くことになりそうです。ひこにゃんはゆるキャラなので パフォーマンスもゆる～いのでしたが そこがまたおもしろかったです。

A castle town located in the north of Shiga prefecture, Hikone is a great place to wander around for a day. The castle is one of the few in Japan which are still the original castle and there are some beautiful views of the lovely Lake Biwa from the keep.
Yume-kyobashi Castle Road is full of restaurants and cafes along with traditional Japanese omiyage and food is definitely worth a look and of course the city’s character, Hikonyan, can be found everywhere!
