Sikkim In 2019
The Journey Continues from Lachung towards Yumthang Valley in
North Sikkim at 23rd January 2019 . In Extreme Climatic Conditions with heavy snowfalls we proceeded towards yumthang . Temperatures were arround -12*c .
While comming back we faced a terrible situation because of Roads were completely covered with thick Layers of snow and there was a point where the road was at a steep upeard inclination.
and Car started rolling backwards . Because Tyres couldn't get enough Friction at Roads . Whatever because of our Expert Driver Tasshi we Escaped it . But this Beautiful Mountains made us Realize once again that we are very small in Front of Nature .

It is at an elevation of 3,564 metres (11,693 ft) above msl at a distance of 150 kilometres (93 mi) from the state capital Gangtok. It is popularly known as 'Valley of Flowers'and is home to the Shingba Rhododendron Sanctuary, which has over twenty-four species of the rhododendron, the state flower. A tributary of the river Teesta flows past the valley and the town of Lachung, the nearest inhabited centre. Yumthang is closed between December and March due to heavy snowfall. A forest rest house is the only permanent residence in the valley. During the spring months, the area blooms with rhododendrons, primulas, poppies, iris and other flora. During the summer months, villagers take their cattle to these heights to graze (a practice known as yaylag pastoralism). In view of increasing number of tourists, there is possibility of environmental degradation in near future.Skiing is conducted in the valley. Transportation by road : Tourists may travel from Gangtok to Lachung (the nearest village where accommodation is available) by booking a full vehicle or shared one and stay over night. A direct journey to Yumthang is not feasible as roads are commonly foggy and it becomes dark very early around 5:30 pm. A trip to the Valley takes around two hours from Lachung, which is about 125 km from Gangtok.

Although I’ve been to Ladakh before, but this trip was such a different experience, especially since I stayed and explored with a local.
This is the second video in my four part series of Sikkim. In this video, we got to Pelling, did a bit of sightseeing there, explored Sky Walk Pelling, Rabdentse Ruins and Pemayengtse Monastery. Also, as usual, tried some delicious local cuisine!

Sikkim Lachung Yumthang Valley (Sikkim tour# 5)
Yumthang Valley is a beautiful valley situated in north Sikkim. It sits at an elevation of 3,500 metres above sea-level,
so naturally home to many beautiful Himalayan flowers. It is rightfully called a valley of flowers.
A closer look reveals more flowers, small in size, but beautiful never the less
There are some tiny yellow Buttercups, and some species of Clematis vine
There is no direct way of going to Yumthang Valley - one has to first go to the capital, Gangtok, and get permission to
go to the Valley.Yes, everybody needs permission to go to the Valley because of its proximity with the Indo-Tibet border
All foreign nationals require Restricted Area Permit (RAP) to visit any part of Sikkim.
This permit is also known as Inner Line Permit (ILP). Indians however do not require this.
If you are a national of Pakistan, China, Maynmar or Bangladesh, then it gets a little more difficult to enter Sikkim.
You must get a written approval from Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, New Delhi before the Restricted Area Permit can be issued.
There are other restrictions for all including Indians for few specific places in Sikkim. Certain areas like Tsomgo Lake,
Dzongri etc are defined as Protected Areas and have special army deployment.
Both foreigners and Indians require a separate permit known as Protected Area Permit (PAP) to visit such places.
But few protected border areas like Nathulla are not accessible to foreigners at all, while Indians can still visit with the Protected Area Permit.
Restricted Area Permit is applicable only for foreigners. It is free of cost. You must have a valid Passport and an Indian visa. With proper documentation,
it takes less than 30 minutes to get the permit across the counter.
Assuming that you are Going to take a shared vehicle, there are packages available for Yumthang. Two days,
one night package which is very popular package costs Rs 1,500 per person,
which includes travel, stay overnight, and all the meals during the tour. Not a bad deal! The two-nights package costs around Rs 2,200 per person.
The only problem is that many a times, there are not enough takers for the two-nights package and the shared vehicle will not go unless all the 10 seats are filled.
7 hours Sumo travel takes you to Lachung, a small village 24 km before Yumthang. Next morning, at 6 AM, start for the Yumthang Valley, which takes about an hour.
You should plan your visit to Lachung and onward to Yumthang valley and Zero Point from Gangtok.
It requires an overnight stay at Lachung before you can return to Gangtok next day. For more information please comment down below , we will reply you instantly
Yumthang valley is about 24kms from Lachung located at an altitude of 11,800ft and takes about 1.5 hours of drive from Lachung

Solo Girl Travels To North Sikkim | Lachen, Lachung, Yumthang Valley and Gurudongmar Lake
This year I ticked-off another state of North-East India, Sikkim. Undoubtedly with its spell-binding beauty, this fully-organic state of India is overflowing with unresponsible tourism. We can bring change and harm nature a little less. Watch the video and decide for yourself. :)
Places visited:-
Lachen - A town in North Sikkim district, located at an elevation of 2,750 metres. Its name means big pass. The town forms the base to the Chopta Valley and Gurudongmar Lake.
Lachung - A mountain village close to the Tibetan border in North Sikkim. It's divided by the Lachung River. The village is home to the 19th-century Buddhist Lachung Monastery.
Yumthang Valley - a nature sanctuary with river, hot springs, yaks and grazing pasture on rolling meadows surrounded by the Himalayan mountains in the North Sikkim.
Gurudongmar Lake - one of the highest lakes in the world and in India, located at an altitude of 17,800 ft. It is considered sacred in some Indian religions.
P.S. My complaint with Sikkim is not about its natural beauty, its diversity and its kind & helpful people. My complaint is about travellers who flout the ethics of responsible travelling and about the tourism department of state that turns a blind eye to the oncoming destruction.
YOU please be a responsible inhabitant of the world and avoid ruining the natural (as well as city) landscapes.
Last but not the least, I know at some places the audio is low. Trying to improve, please bear with me. ????
