pit - Dré Wapenaar - Tranendreef - construction 2012 (1) | Z33 - art in public space
stop motion about the construction of the art work Tranendreef by artist Dré Wapenaar in 2012. (1 out of 2 movies).
In the landscape, next to the lane heading to the castle of Hex, you can find four tree tents where you can spend the night. The tear-shaped sculptures are hanging from the standard trees and provide an alternative form of accommodation to spend a night in Haspengouw. The work of Dré Wapenaar (NL) is always situated on the border between architecture and sculpture, between a stay and a meet. His sculptures are mainly tent constructions that are placed temporarily. The social interaction around the work is of great importance for the artist.
On display: March 21st --September 30th, 2012
Info and bookings: Tourism Borgloon -- Markt z/n, Borgloon -- 012 67 36 53

docu Philip Metten - INNERCOMA | Z33
Short documentary about the built-up, final art work and the story about INNERCOMA by Philip Metten. (summer 2010)
The artist Philip Metten transformed one of the building of Z33 into a gigantic sculpture. As such INNERCOMA is not an ordinary exhibition, but rather a kind of explosion of art within the urban context of Hasselt (Belgium).

Z33 promo
is a house for contemporary art. Since 2002, Z33 has been organising projects and exhibitions that encourage visitors to see everyday things in a new way. A unique laboratory and a meeting place for experimentation and innovation, this is the place to be when it comes to unique exhbitions of contemporary art and design. The name Z33 comes from its location, Zuivelmarkt 33, the site of the historical beguinage in the city of Hasselt.
Z33 does not have a permanent collection of its own, but rather an ongoing programme of temporary exhibitions. Each year, Z33 presents three large and three smaller exhibition projects. These exhibitions always have a strong social orientation, addressing topical themes from various artistic standpoints with a critical eye (e.g. Designing Critical Design, 2007; 1% Water, 2008; Thomas Lommée OpenStructures, 2009; Design by Performance, 2010; Alter Nature, 2010; Architecture of Fear, 2011). Each project combines an exhibition with an extensive programme of related events.
In addition to exhibitions, Z33 organises artistic projects in public spaces. These large-scale projects bring contemporary art out into the public in Belgian Limburg. The first project in this series is pit -- art in the public space of Borgloon-Heers.
Z33 also serves as curator for exhibitions by external parties, such as Emmy+Gijs+Aldo in the the Zuiderzeemuseum in Enkhuizen, Food Forward in Stroom Den Haag, the Cabinet of Curiosities from Belgium for Europe for the cabinet of the European Council president, Herman Van Rompuy and The Machine in C-Mine Genk.
For each exhibition, Z33 develops a tailored programme for families, teachers, teenagers and children, aimed at individuals as well as groups. Groups can book guided tours around each exhibition, and free mini-tours are provided on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. There are special guides for children aged 6--10 and 10--14, and creative sessions for children in the Z-lab, the educational area of the Z33. Children and teenagers can follow creative art workshops at Z33 three times per year during the school holidays: Kunstenaar voor 1 Dag (9--12 years) or Kunztlab (13--15 years)
Z-OUT Badeend Beringen (c) Z33

leyer - prototype
Leyer (as in eye + layer) is an installation linked to the exposition 'Architecture of Fear' that is accessible in the autumn of 2011 at the centre of arts Z33 Hasselt, Belgium.
Leyer is in fact a disguised cityviewer and is placed near architectural buildings. In this way people have a certain expectancy of what will be emphasized with the viewer and will be lured into using it.
Closer examination will point out that no details of the nearby building will be shown. In fact the participant will see himself looking into the viewer from behind. This will, in the first place, create some kind of confusion. Leyer will eventually filter the person out of the image, making him invisible.
Leyer shows the transience of humanity and the fear to be forgotten.
