LEAD IN
The nomadic lifestyle has long been an inseparable part of Iranian culture, which has survived despite long history of urban civilisation of ancient Iran .
Iran has one of the largest nomadic populations in the world, an estimated 1.5 million in a country of about 70 million, according to the government's agency for nomad affairs.
STORYLINE
Despite three-thousand years of urbanisation in the Persian plain, the nomadic lifestyle has not yet disappeared from Iran.
Iranian nomads can be found in the vast green plains of the Zagros Mountains in the Fars province in southwestern Iran and southern parts of the Isfahan province.
Although most Iranian nomads can speak Farsi fluently, they speak Turkic amongst themselves.
Finding a good pasture is a top priority for nomads.

Spring Migration of Bakhtiari Nomads - Iran
Sheep and goats are passing the path in the mountains of Zagros. They do the same every year on fall and spring. Their winter pasture is waiting for them in Khuzestan Province.
what we do? (Persia Authentic Nomad Tours)
This family is a survival of Bakhtiari Nomads; an ancient tribe in West of Iran, living in Zagrous mountains. They migrate twice a year to provide their flocks with fresh grass. In winters, they stay at lower altitudes in plains of Khuzestan. Then in spring, when the weather is getting warm and the winter rain is over, they cross Zagros Mountains to their summer pastures. move their sheep and goats, walking up to 500 Km and passing around 4000 meters peaks.
For thousands of years, Dynasties vanished one after another, but Bakhtiaris have remained undoubtable rulers of Zagros mountains.
different kings and governors have tried to weaken them. They exiled their leaders to cities and forced families to disperse and settle in villages and towns. Because they were afraid of their power.
A hundred years ago, there were still around a milli of them, migrating with millions of sheep and goats. Affected by the rapidly changing modern world and after years of hostile propaganda against them to stop their migration, under the pretext of making their lives easier, the number of these authentic people have declined dramatically.
Their lifestyle has never been truly accepted by different governments. So they never had their fair share of social and economic welfare. they have uncertain attitude toward their lifestyle and sometimes they think their lifestyle is of no value.
despite all mentioned points, there are still thousands of them continuing nomadic lifestyle.
Now, we feel deeply concerned about the future of these people and we wish to help them preserve their authentic culture.
as migration is the most iconic aspect of their lifestyle, we decided to design a situation so that small groups of responsible visitors accompany Bakhtiaris in their migration. they spend some nights with them, live their lives, help them with migration and earn a first-hand experience of their authentic lifestyle. it helps not only to better recognition and documentation of Bakhtiaris lifestyle, but also it would provide a supplementary income for them and they’d see how everybody is appreciative of their lifestyle. in fact, it will make a mutual benefit. for Bakhtiari nomads and those who want to experience something authentic which is in the danger of extinction. we actually had 30 visitors this spring who spent time with Bakhtiari nomads. we received very positive feedbacks from both visitors and Bakhtiari families which encouraged us to expand what we’re doing.

We feel deeply concerned about the future of this lifestyle and we wish to help the Nomads as our partners to preserve their authentic culture. This lifestyle is not only a cultural diversity that we should care about but also a worthwhile knowledge about biodiversity that should be revived. An accumulated knowledge during thousands of years about how to use nature in a sustainable way that we strongly need it these days and in also in future.

I decided to take a little break from my project and go on a short adventure!
I heard many times about Iran, in a good way. I heard about its beautiful landscapes, its really nice people and its food! But I also heard about the nomads.
Once upon a time Iran was hosting more than one million nomads. What is left of them today? That's the question I wanted to answer.
As nomads are living a different life from our society they are often rejected and considered as thief. In many countries around the world they have been persecuted and only a few remain. Iran is not an exception.
Check out the video to know more about it!
See you next week!
