Mongolia: UlaanBaatar - Zaisan Memorial
The Zaisan Memorial is a monument honouring Soviet Russian soldiers killed during The Great Patriotic War. The monument features a circular memorial painting depicting the friendship between the USSR and Mongolia; Soviet support for Mongolia's independence declaration in 1921: the defeat of the Japanese Kwantung Army by the Soviets at Khalhkin Gol on the Mongolian border in 1939; the defeat of Nazi Germany & post-war Soviet space flights. At the base of the hill there is a Soviet tank from a brigade paid for by the Mongolian people. The plinth shows the route of the brigade from Moscow when it started out in 1943 to the fall of Berlin in 1945.
This is a popular place with tourists as there are extensive view over the city below..........

World War II heroes honored in Ulaanbaatar on the occasion of Victory Day
Today, May 9, ceremonies to pay respect to the heroes of the war were held at the Monument of Soviet Soldiers on the Zaisan Hill and the Monument of Marshal of the Soviet Union G.K.Zhukov in Ulaanbaatar The events were dedicated to the 72th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War.
Representatives from the Ministry of Defense, General Staff of the Armed Forces and Embassies of Russian Federation, Belarus and Kazakhstan in Mongolia and Mongolian and Russian citizens took part in the ceremonies.
Students of the Russian High School named after Yuri Gagarin performed a concert and a mini-photo exhibition about Russian soldiers, who had fought in the war, was displayed at the Zhukov Square.
