St Dennis Festival Zante 2009
The annual festival of St Dionysios (Dennis) takes place on the Greek island of Zakynthos (Zante) on the 24th of August. The 400year old body of St Dennis is paraded through the streets of the capital in a glass coffin, where the young and sick crouch in the road as his body passes them by, in hope of being made well or given good health.
After the parade, a huge firework display takes place over the harbour.
There is also a large outdoor market where you can buy goods or food from the many stalls selling barbequed corn on the cob, souvlaki or local sausage. For desert try the freshly cooked doughnuts (ball shaped) covered in hot melted chocolate.

Easter in Zakynthos [English]
- Easter is the biggest religious celebration in Greece. Zante in particular celebrates Easter with formality and gravity. The crucifix is carried around the town where shops remain shut and dark scarves are hung from all balconies. Zakynthians drop ceramic pots filled with water from their balconies. Easter Sunday encapsulates the true spirit of Greek feasting.

Corfu Town: St. Francisc Church
The monastery of Saint Francisc of Asissi, one of the oldest monasteries of the island, is dedicated to Saint Angelo and it is said that it was built in the 13th century.
Initially, during the years of the Bishops of Epirus, Aggelon Komninon, Monastery was granted to the Greek nuns, while in May of 1367 it was granted to the Battalion of monks of Saint Fragisko, which developed the Monastery as much as possible. In the beginning of 17th century it appears that there were reconstructions and in September of 1621 it was blessed by the Archbishop Benedetto Bragadino. In 1798 it the first public school functioned in the Monastery for the first time. From the end of 1943, because the Catholic Cathedral suffered serious destruction from the bombardments of the Germans, the Monastery of Saint Fragisko became a Cathedral for the Catholic population of the island until the reconstruction of the new Cathedral.

GREECE: The beautiful churches ⛪ of island of SANTORINI
SUBSCRIBE: - These are my best pictures of the Greek Orthodox churches of the Greek island of Santorini.
Santorini is one of the Cyclades islands in the Aegean Sea. It was devastated by a volcanic eruption in the 16th century BC, forever shaping its rugged landscape. The whitewashed, cubiform houses of its 2 principal towns, Fira and Oia, cling to cliffs above an underwater caldera (crater). They overlook the sea, small islands to the west and beaches made up of black, red and white lava pebbles.
Greece is a country in southeastern Europe with thousands of islands throughout the Aegean and Ionian seas. Influential in ancient times, it's often called the cradle of Western civilization. Athens, its capital, retains landmarks including the 5th-century B.C. Acropolis citadel with the Parthenon temple. Greece is also known for its beaches, from the black sands of Santorini to the party resorts of Mykonos.
