Aquarium Grotto Garden, Cairo, Egypt - El Zamalek Island
Aquarium Grotto Garden, Cairo, Egypt - There might be a beautiful aquarium to visit in Alexandria ( Egypt, although it is a small one, but when it comes to Cairo, the aquarium grotto garden is considered the only fish garden to be found in there.
The aquarium grotto garden in Cairo is found on El Zamalek island, the district with the most green areas in Cairo. The location of this aquarium garden is Gabalaya street in Zamalek and it is one of the most famous places that the old Egyptian movies used to shoot the love scenes there.
The aquarium grotto garden (حديقة الأسماك in Arabic) was opened to the public in the 19th century after it was a private property of El Khedive Ismail. This place was very famous for lovers more than a century ago but these days it started to lose its popularity.
A lot of visitors say that the garden is not the same as it used to be and that is one of the reasons why people stopped going there as much as they used to. Even though it is named the aquarium grotto, there aren't many fish found inside as one would expect, yet the place is considered a beautiful destination for a beautiful walk there.
When this garden was in the construction phase, an Italian engineer was responsible to bring something that is much like the Italian gardens and even the passages which are made from real lime can get you lost inside the place while you are trying to discover its different corners and passages.
Even though the sea species are not so many, there are rare ones which you could see inside, such as the hundred and so aged turtle that lives beside a fish which could clean its tank alone. In addition to the living sea creatures, there are also different mummified species which are placed in jars and each is written its details on the jar.
We recommend this aquarium grotto garden not only for couples, but we also recommend it for families because it could be a very good picnic place where the kids could play and ride the bicycles. It is also considered a good place in the middle of Zamalek island where there is no noise and where one could run away from the hassle of the traffic jam happening outside; you should just bring something to sit on because the chairs there need to be repaired.
This peaceful place is good for a morning walk since the working hours of the garden start at 8:30 in the morning and ends at 4:30 in the afternoon, giving people the chance to have some good time inside during the first part of the day.
The entrance fee for the aquarium grotto garden is five Egyptian pounds per person, which is considered reasonable and not expensive by any means, giving the person the chance to head there with his/her family members without worrying about the amount of money that will be paid.
The staff working in the aquarium grotto garden are very helpful and will offer all the information you might need while wandering in the place. Some of those old working staff are well aware of the different scenes being shot in the place back in the black and white Egyptian movies and could point out these locations and tell you who were the actors.
The aquarium grotto garden is one of the things that used to be very famous in the golden times before, not only due to the movies being shot there, but also because famous actors and actresses of the old time used to have some walks in the garden, and one of them is Abdel Halim Hafez, who also used to live just beside the garden that his apartment could be spotted from there.
El Zamalek is one of the fancy places in Cairo, Egypt, that people always love to hang out in it because it is an island that hosts different cafes and restaurants and thus give the people the chance to enjoy a good time by the Nile - of course that comes in addition to some of the other hidden gems which are found in the streets inside. The aquarium grotto garden is part of El Zamalek and it gives the visitors the chance to enjoy other things after finishing their walk, such as heading to the Andalus park in which they could sit, have a walk, or enjoy staying away from the crowded streets (
There are different places in Egypt that could let you more knowledgeable about the city, such as visiting Cairo Tower which is also found in Zamalek ( or else tending to go to the Egyptian Museum which is not far away and is placed in El Tahrir square ( going to the Islamic Art Museum ( or else walking through the streets and trying to discover more about the old Egypt.
There are different things to know about Egypt and in addition to spending the days visiting the historic places, sometimes going to gardens is needed to make the day much more comfortable. This grotto is the place for those who want to have a walk in a quiet area away from the street.

El Andalus Park in Cairo, Egypt; A Walk by El Zamalek Island
El Andalus Park, Cairo, Egypt - One of the rare green areas that people could come across in Cairo and which is considered different because the walk in it will provide a view to some Egyptian attractions and at the same time will be a walk along the Nile.
The Andalusian garden or park in Cairo (حديقة الأندلس) is a little park that is located in the Southern part of El Zamalek island, in between Qasr El Nile bridge and Sixth of October bridge. This little park is just minutes away from downtown Cairo, which could be a place to hide away from the hassle of the street after your walk through the streets of downtown and after getting in contact with some of the historical museums and attractions.
The island of Zamalek is considered one of the districts with vast green areas, unlike the rest of Cairo in general, and which are mostly located in the southern part due to the fact of hosting three different sporting clubs there. The green views found on this island are considered the reason why most of the Egyptians love walking through its streets and even consider it a fancy place to hang out in.
This is considered a recommended green area to spend some time in - just try to stay away from weekends though - because it gives the visitor the chance to enjoy several views, such as the statue of Sa'ad Zaghloul, the Nationalist leader of the 1930s, as well as other famous landmarks of the city that include Cairo Tower, Cairo Opera house, as well as having a good view of the Nile (
There are terraces and different Pharaonic replicas in the garden which covers 8,400 square meters and which was found by Zulfugar Pasha as a present to his wife - a good gesture that it could be the place to have a walk with your other half.
Walking through the greenery walkways of El Andalus park or even choosing to sit on one of the benches to observe the quiet atmosphere of the Nile, it is important to mention that after all, this park will take you away from the traffic jams and let you free your mind a little bit.
There are different cafes and restaurants which you could then go to in the same island of Zamalek or else cross the Nile to the other side, in order to have your lunch or dinner or even get something to drink with the Nile view - and trust us when we say that it is actually a good suggestion and the weather will always keep you happy.
The park is not all done in the same style, but it is divided into three different sections: the first one is all about the narrow walkways with different trees and several replicas of ancient Egyptian statues, the two round terraces which are found at the edge of the park and which are different from the narrow passages, and finally the palm trees which surround the streets and at the same time pave the walkways.
The second part is done in an Andalusian style on a higher level than the first part and is more of a symmetrical nature. In this section there is a central fountain that dominates the area with a statue of Ahmed Shawky in the middle, the Egyptian artist who was known as the poet of Islam and Arabism.
The third and last part of this park is known as Al Fardus and which is decorated and designed in an Arabesque design and architecture and is considered the part from which the one could get the best view of the Nile.
Being one of the places that Cairo residents love and enjoy going to, we should mention that it definitely is a different place to visit although it is not related to the historical museums or the famous landmarks that any tourist always plant to visit before leaving Egypt.
Visiting El Andalus park is not considered expensive because the entrance fee for the whole place costs two Egyptian pounds only, might be a little bit more for foreigners. The place is not open 24/7 but there are working hours available; it opens its gates in summer from 9 AM until 2 and in winter it opens from 9 AM until 10 PM.
Since El Andalus park is too close from the downtown area, there are different museums to visit. From the recommended options, you could visit the Egyptian museum ( go to the Islamic Art museum ( walk through the streets of downtown ( and you could also visit Cairo Tower which is found in the same area of El Zamalek Island ( without the need to cross the Nile over and reach the downtown area.
Cairo might not be rich with green areas but you could always find some gardens and parks which the government takes much care of, such as El Andalus park. There are still other options when it comes to the parks, such as Al Azhar park which is much bigger than El Andalus one and which is also just minutes drive away from old Egypt and could give you a good view of old buildings and treasures (

One of the best places where you can enjoy the sunset view in Cairo is from a Falouka boat in the Nile.
There are 2 tips of Falouka in Egypt, one with the sail and one with motor.
It can be taken from various places in Cairo. The best timing to sail in Falouka is during sunset where you can enjoy a glorious view of the city hidden in the golden rays of the sun.

Some places i like in Egypt
Cairo (Arabic: القاهرة al-Qāhira) is the capital of Egypt and the largest city in the Arab World.[1] Nicknamed The City of a Thousand Minarets for its preponderance of Islamic architecture, Cairo has long been a center of the region's political and cultural life. Even before Cairo was established in the tenth century, the land composing the present-day city was the site of national capitals whose remnants remain visible in parts of Old Cairo. Cairo is also associated with Ancient Egypt due to its proximity to the Great Sphinx and the pyramids in nearby Giza.
Egyptians today often refer to Cairo as Maṣr (Arabic: مصر), the Egyptian Arabic pronunciation of the Arabic name for Egypt itself, emphasizing the city's continued role in Egyptian influence. Cairo has the oldest and largest film and music industries in the Arab World, as well as the world's second-oldest institution of higher learning, al-Azhar University. Many international media, businesses, and organizations have regional headquarters in the city, and the Arab League has been based in Cairo for most of its existence.
With a population of 6.8 million[2] spread over 214 square kilometers (83 sq mi), Cairo is by far the largest city in Egypt. With an additional ten million inhabitants just outside the city, Cairo resides at the center of the largest metropolitan area in Africa and the eleventh-largest urban area in the world.[1] Cairo, like many large cities in developing countries, suffers from high levels of pollution and traffic, but its metro currently the only on the African continent also ranks among the fifteen busiest in the world,[3] with over 700 million passenger rides annually.
The Museum of Egyptian Antiquities, known commonly as the Egyptian Museum, is home to the most extensive collection of ancient Egyptian antiquities in the world. It has 136,000 items on display, with many more hundreds of thousands in its basement storerooms
Khan el-Khalili is an ancient shopping area, nothing less, but some of the shops have also their own little factories or workshops.
The suq (which is the Arabic name for bazaar, or market) dates back to 1382, when Emir Djaharks el-Khalili built a big caravanserai (or khan) right here. A caravanserai was a sort of hotel for traders, and usually the focal point for economic activity for any surrounding area. This caravanserai is still there, you just ask for the narrow street of Sikka Khan el-Khalili and Badestan.
The part of Cairo that contains Coptic Cairo and Fostat, which contains the Coptic Museum, Babylon Fortress, Hanging Church, the Greek Church of St. George, many other Coptic churches, the Ben Ezra Synagogue and Amr ibn al-'As Mosque.
The Cairo Tower is a free-standing concrete TV tower in Cairo. It stands in the Zamalek district on Gezira Island in the Nile River, in the city centre. At 187 meters, it is 43 meters higher than the Great Pyramid of Giza, which stands some 15 km to the southwest.
Over the ages, and as far back as four thousand years, Egypt stood as the land where civilizations have always met.[citation needed] The Pharaohs together with the Greeks and the Romans have left their imprints here. Muslims from the Arabian Peninsula, led by Amr ibn al-A'as, introduced Islam into Egypt. Khedive Mohammad Ali, with his Albanian family roots, put Egypt on the road to modernity. If anything, the cultural mix in this country is natural, given its heritage. Egypt can be likened to an open museum with monuments of the different historical periods on display everywhere.

Nilometer, Nile, Rhoda Island, Cairo
A visit to the old and beautiful Nilometer on the banks of the Nile in Cairo. Here they measured the flow of the Nile for thousands of years, believed to be the result of the gods and the tears of Isis. But not anymore. The new Aswan Dam made the government and its engineers the master of the river.
