Zamora Spain Festival of the Virgin
The local townspeople of Zamora, Spain, were extremely friendly as they invited us to join with them in celebrating their Festival of the Virgin. Marching bands played Iberian bagpipes, flutes, and drums, while figures wearing large heads danced in the streets and the 15-foot tall gigantes paraded through town. Finally the priest led a procession of the statue of the Virgin while locals donned traditional costumes. It was the highlight of our September 2011 trip to Spain. Thank you, people of Zamora!
