Swingin' Charlie - Live at Zeffirellis, Ambleside, UK
Recorded on the 25th March 2017
Gavin Barras - Double Bass
Jeff Guntren - Tenor Saxophone
Jim Faulkner - Guitar
Dave Walsh - Drums
Gavin’s new album The Family Tree was released in March 2017. It contains ten new compositions all written since becoming a father in 2016. The record also features Gavin playing a double bass built by his own father, a keen stringed instrument maker, who spent 15 years building the bass as a labour of love for his son. Gavin composed many of the tunes on this bass which provided huge inspiration for the album, and he decided to dedicate it to his dad, Steve, as well as the rest of his family, including new baby boy, Charlie. The other themes of the album include friendships, childhood memories, family connections and Gavin’s home in the Peak District. The band features Jeff Guntren on tenor saxophone, Jim Faulkner on guitar and Dave Walsh on drums. Recorded in one day at 80 Hertz Studios in Manchester, The Family Tree also has two tracks with Gavin on acoustic guitar (again built by his father – this one back in 1967), Rhiannon James on viola and Margit van der Zwan on cello.

Passport And Visas Requirements To Enter The UK
Please note: Following the recent referendum vote for the UK to leave the European Union (EU), there are currently no changes in the way people travel to Britain. The following guidelines still apply:
If you're planning an adventure to the UK, depending on your nationality and your reason for visiting, you may need to organise a visa.
If you're an American, Canadian or Australian tourist, you'll be able to travel visa-free throughout the UK, providing you have a valid passport and your reason for visiting meets the immigration rules (link is external).
Citizens from some South American and Caribbean countries as well as Japan are also able to travel visa-free around the UK.
European Union citizens, non-EU member states of the EEA (Norway, Liechtenstein and Iceland), Switzerland, and members of the Overseas Countries and Territories (OCT) do not need a visa to enter the UK.
If you have any further visa questions visit the official UK government website.
Anyone that has any questions, please feel free the comment below and I will answer them for you.

Trichotomy - KNOWN-UNKNOWN - Official album trailer
Trichotomy create music that brings together the delicate balance between captivating melodies, intense rhythmic interplay and emotive collective improvisation. The sense of group empathy is striking, with a subconscious understanding of the flow between the piano (Sean Foran), bass (Samuel Vincent) and drums (John Parker) developed through years of performances and shared musical experience. The acclaimed Australian trio are now are poised to release their 5th album, KNOWN-UNKNOWN, their first with the Dutch label Challenge Records, showcasing the remarkable music of this group.
The groups last release, the Bell and AIR nominated album “Fact Finding Mission” (2013) saw the trio collaborate with guest artists including guitar maestro James Muller, percussionist Tunji Beier and Linsey Pollak on reeds. The music pushed the trio into new worlds of sound, inspired by a range of influences from classical music, European folk traditions, rock and jazz. Since that time they have been busy as pianist Sean Foran explains, “we certainly didn’t plan for it to be such a long time between albums…but we seemed to have a bunch of really interesting projects that kept us quite occupied and so we thought…..well, the right time to get in the studio will present itself”.
Busy indeed…. Over the last few years the group has toured to Japan, and collaborated with high level classical groups the Southern Cross Soloists, Collusion and Lunarie Collective and most recently, with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra. They also brought British Saxophonist Julian Arguelles to Australia for a tour to major jazz festivals, including a commissioned work for the Brisbane International Jazz Festival.
In June 2016, they stepped back into the studio to record their 5th album, arriving at the session with a collection of new music that extends the interaction in the trio even further through the use of live electronic manipulation of the acoustic sounds.
“The electronics are giving some really interesting depth to the music and allowing us to improvise in new ways”, John Parker explains. “Sam (bassist) is also bringing music to the group, so we’ve got three compositional voices that we can draw on…. It’s a fresh direction for us, but feels like a strong development on what we’ve been cultivating together”.
KNOWN-UNKNOWN returns the focus on the trio, with the music rich and deep in dynamic and textural interaction. The opening track “Five” shows the group digging into a relentless bass and piano groove, while “It’s strange coming back” is stunning in the beauty of the melody. “Hemmingways” and “Past Tense” explore meticulously crafted sound worlds through electronics and improvisation, while the disjointed rhythms of “Junk” are compelling.
With a UK/European tour in early 2017, KNOWN-UNKNOWN puts the band once again on the map as a distinct and significant voice in contemporary music.
