The Zeila Wreck Namibia, Henties #2
The Zeila got stranded on 25 August 2008 in the early morning hours near Die Walle, a popular fishing spot about 14km south of Henties Bay
The Skeleton Coast is one of the most treacherous coastlines in the world due to strong crosscurrents, heavy swells and dense fogs caused by the ice-cold fast-flowing Benguela Current. Rocky reefs and sand dunes that stretch into the sea spell disaster for any vessel that get caught up in the gale-force winds and all-enveloping sea fogs, reducing visibility to virtually nil

You can see the shipwrecks along the shoreline, the skeleton shoreline, the heavy storm, and the ship of death for ships that sail through dense fog. It's a small entrance, people who set up a fishing rod on a red sandy bottom and catch the Atlantic Ocean. They say they came here from inland 700 kilometers away. What did they catch today? What fish did you catch? This is a catfish. Today What is the first fish I caught? Yes, it's the first fish, he said, I came fishing at 8 o'clock in the morning and I caught a duckling. What bait do you use? I use different baits depending on the type of fish. What is the biggest fish I've ever caught? The biggest fish is sea bream The carp was 15 kg. 15 kg? Yes, 15 kg. Sometimes the shark is caught, and the biggest of the sharks we caught was 95 kg. When expectation is big, disappointment is big law came again, and it is seaweed again

The Zeila wreck on Namibia Skeleton coast
A convenient shipwreck to see along Namibia's famous Skeleton Coast is the Zeila wreck found north of Swakopmund around 15 kilometres south of Henties Bay, near a popular beachside fishing spot. You will easily see the Zeila as approach along the C34 from the south, on the left side of the road.
The Zeila was its resting place at this location in 2008. Seems this was an old Angolan fishing vessel that had been sold for scrap to an Indian company. It was being towed out of Walvis Bay but its tow rope broke in the middle of the night. The vessel drifted through the night and was then washed ashore at this location further north along the coast.
Today the ship remains in very good condition wedged into the sand just off shore. It has become the nesting location for numerous birds, which is nice to see and photograph.
You can visit the Zeila wreck by turning off the C34. There is a sign pointing you to a short off drive and car park. You'll likely see a few tour groups and other travellers doing the same. Lock up your car and walk 40-50 metres down to the beach and you'll be fairly close to the ship. You can take pictures from there.
Henties Bay - Namibia
The town of Henties Bay hugs the cold Altantic Ocean to the north of Swakopmund and carries the ambience of a fisherman's haven. True to its humble beginnings, Henties Bay is a prime vacation spot for all those with a love for shoreline angling. In 1929, Major Hentie van der Merwe was on a hunting expedition in the central Damaraland area when their water supply ran out. Ploughing through thick desert sands and scorching heat, he happened upon a small fresh water spring just south of the Omaruru River mouth. With their water supplies replenished, the major was able to continue the journey home. He returned the next year to build a small wooden shelter near the spring, it would become his own personal holiday retreat for years to come. He invited friends and family to his little patch of beach and they named the area Hentie's Bay.

The fishing trawler that was sold as scrap metal to an Indian company by Hangana Fishing of Walvis Bay got stranded after it came loose from its towing line while on its way to Bombay, India shortly after it left Walvis Bay. It seems that they will be able to rescue no more than a few usable items from the stranded ship.
