We took a tour with specialty tour company Coonawarra Experiences and enjoyed a fantastic day visiting some of Coonawarra's most famous wine brand's including Zema Estate, Brands Laira and Katnook Estate and some hidden gems such as Bellwether Wines and Whistle Post. We may have sampled some of lovely local produce as well as few of Australia's best wines in the process, so it's lucky we had Simon in charge of the schedule and the driving!

A traditional Australi Mid 2006, Rob Hicks caught up with Majella's Brian 'Prof' Lynn for a coffee and a chat about The Musician.
A traditional Australian blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz, this red wine style argues the quality to be had from the much respected Coonawarra region, in the south east of South Australia. Seemingly simple, this is a well thought out wine.
Wine Week 134: All in the family.
This week we look at three wines with a definite family theme. The first is the Tulum Chardonnay from Willow Creek, a small winery on Victoria's Mornington Peninsula which hosted the wedding of members of Danny's extended family a few years back. The next wine is the Kalleske Clarry's red, named after the grandfather of current winemaker, Troy Kalleske. Our final wine is the Zema Estate Family Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, a ripper drop using only the best fruit from the great 2005 Coonawarra vintage.
Highbank Vineyard
Organic farming is the guiding principle behind Highbank Wines. In Australia, very few vineyards are organic. But American winemaker Dennis Vice refuses to use chemicals or insecticides in his vineyard. He hand prunes the vines, thins the crop--not just once during the growing season--but several times. All the grapes are harvested by hand.
Coonawarra has the ideal climate for growing fine wine grapes and a long, slow, cool ripening season ensures that the grapes build up intense flavors. This produces more elegant wines, not overripe or overpowering wines.

Wine Week 124: Maybe not the coolest, but one of the best.
This week we start by looking at a favourite cabernet from the Coonawarra that Danny thinks would go perfectly with a late night lamb sandwich. Following this Brad looks at a riesling from the Eden Valley which constantly rates as one of Australia's best, and it's bargain too! To round things out Danny also suggests you ignore passing trends for a moment and try a shiraz from one of Australia's oldest wineries.
