Железноводск / Zheleznovodsk
Железноводск – климатический и бальнеогрязевой курорт, расположенный в южной части Ставропольского края, на территории эколого-курортного региона Кавказские Минеральные Воды, в 12 км к юго-востоку от города Минеральные Воды и в 180 км от Ставрополя. Город лежит в северных предгорьях Большого Кавказа на высоте 470-650 м над уровнем моря.
Железноводск уютно расположился в закрытой от ветров долине, по дну которой струятся воды рек Джеймук и Кучук. Своим названием город обязан горе Железной, подле которой и находится. Близ курортных улиц возвышаются еще две горы – Развалка и Бештау. В восточной части города расположено искусственное Курортное озеро с небольшой гаванью и островком, на который перекинута дуга ажурного мостика.
Железноводск – обладатель обширного и естественного лесопарка, густой буково-грабовой мантией обволакивающего склоны Железной, Развалки и Бештау. Помимо бука и граба, в железноводских лесах произрастают дуб, ясень, каштан, липа, тополь, шиповник и боярышник. Аллеи Лечебного парка обрамляют сосна и пихта, а берега Курортного озера платаны и кипарисы.
Zheleznovodsk is the smallest resort town in the Mineralnye Vody region, but this doesn’t diminish its importance. It has a very big resort park, and balneological treatment facilities.
It is very calm and quiet there due to the small size of the town. However, the resort park is one of the biggest, comparing to those of the other towns, and nearly all attractions of Zheleznovodsk are located within a walking distance of the resort park.
Terrainkurs (dedicated paths for walking training) of the resort park begin at the pump-room of the Slavyanovskiy spring and running around the Zheleznaya (Iron) mountain. The length of a path is about 2,5 km, but you can ascend to the top of the mountain and have a walk to the Razvalka mountain (about 8 km).
The main attractions of Zheleznovodsk are in the lower resort park: Pushkin gallery, the palace of the Emir of Bukhara, Smirnov spring and Lermontov public garden.
Traditionally, Pushkin gallery is considered the center of cultural life of the town, as since the time of its opening in 1901 it was just there that all concerts, expositions and the other cultural events, which are so needed by tourists, have been held.
Almost all springs of mineral water – Smirnov spring and Slavyanovskiy spring being the most important of them – are on the eastern slope of the Zheleznaya mountain, within a walking distance of the Pushkin gallery.
