Zhenyuan Ancient Town

Zhenyuan Ancient Town is a waterside city surrounded by mountains. Surrounded by mountains on the all sides, Zhenyuan was the only way from central plains of China to the backland of Yunnan and Guizhou in ancient times, which gave it the reputation of Throat of Xiang Qian.

Zhenyuan, a tranquil ancient town, lies hidden in the east of Guizhou Province. It has been a center of land and water transportation since early times. Zhenyuan County was formed in 202 BC in the Han Dynasty. Two thousand years have passed and now it has become a famous historical and cultural city.

镇远自汉高祖五年设县开始，已有2200多年历史，是云贵高原上历史最悠久的名城。
镇远的母亲河舞阳河，以S形穿城而过，形成一幅八卦图，故镇远又被称为八卦古镇。
古镇被舞阳河一分为二。北岸是旧时士兵驻扎的地方，称之为卫城；南岸是行政机构和平民商家聚集的地方，称之为府城。
由首尾相接的三条街道（新中街、兴隆街和顺城街）构成，街道两边客栈、餐馆和店铺云集。
古镇西侧有新大桥，东侧的祝圣桥是镇远古城的标志性建筑，当地人称之为老大桥。
登上古城边的玉屏山，还可以俯瞰古城和舞阳河全景。
