A few kilometres from the modern, pulsating and gigantic metropolis of Shanghai there is an idyllic mediaeval village, Zhou Zhuang, that is believed to have been the first ‘water village’ in China. However, it was not until the middle of the 1980s that the picturesque village was added to the tourist map and since then its splendid old buildings and canals have been recognised as a truly magnificent treasure. The origin and founding of Zhou Zhuang dates back around nine hundred years. Due to its unique location the town has escaped war and plunder as only the local inhabitants knew their way around the labyrinth-like canals that once led into the small town. Free from battle and invasion it has managed to retain its age old Chinese charm right up until the present day. One of the most elegant monuments in Zhou Zhuang is located in the southern area of the town, the beautifully decorated and lovingly restored Quanfu Temple. A haven of peace and tranquillity that encapsulates the serene way of life of this captivating place.

ZhouZhuang 周庄 | An Ancient Town in China.

China has so many beautiful ancient water towns, ZhouZhuang 周庄 is arguable the best. Apparently over a 1000 years of history in this town alone, ancient buildings sit alongside newer buildings with an historic style. Modern ZhouZhuang 周庄 has a lot of small shops, restaurants and museums, with beautiful canals running through the whole town. Check out this amazing historic site.

ZhouZhuang is in Suzhou 苏州, the easiest way to get here is by taxi. However there are some buses that go to this town as well.

Zhouzhuang Water Town 周庄, Kunshan

Zhouzhuang is a small town famous for its canals. It is in Jiangsu province, China, located within the administrative area of Kunshan, 30 km southeast of Suzhou. In the Spring and Autumn period (770 BC-476 BC), Zhouzhuang Suzhou was a part of the fief Yaocheng and called Zhenfengli. Zhouzhuang got its present name after being donated to Full Fortune (Quanfu) Temple by Zhou Digong, a devout Buddhis, in 1086, during the Northern Song Dynasty (960-1127).

Located in Kunshan, Suzhou, Zhouzhuang is one of the first batch of 5A-level scenic spots in China and one of the six ancient towns in the south of the country. Zhouzhuang has a long history. It is a typical Jiangnan water village, with a unique cultural landscape. It is a treasure of Chinese water village culture and Wu local culture. More than 60% of the houses in Zhouzhuang Town are still buildings in the Ming and Qing dynasties. The ancient town of only 0.47 square kilometers has nearly a hundred classical houses and more than 60 brick carved gates. The ancient style of Zhouzhuang houses still exists, and 14 unique ancient bridges are also preserved.

Zhouzhuang, one of the most famous water townships in China, situated in Kunshan City which is only 30 kilometers (18 miles) southeast of Suzhou. It is noted for its profound cultural background, the well preserved ancient residential houses, the elegant watery views and the strong local colored traditions and customs. In the Spring and Autumn Period (770 - 476 BC), Zhouzhuang was a part of the fief Yaocheng and called Zhenfengli. After being donated to Full Fortune (Quanfu) Temple by Zhou Digong, a very devout Buddhist, in 1086 during the Northern Song Dynasty (960 - 1127), it got its present name as a memorial of the donor.

China's Tongli Water Town: Venice of the East

China's Tongli , or Tong-Li, in Wujiang County near Suzhou is definitely worth a visit. Known as the Venice of the East, this place is truly magical and transports visitors to a slower paced China. We visited this charming town on a day trip from Shanghai during the fall of 2015 while backpacking through China. Definitely recommend taking a gondola ride around the old town and visiting Tuisi Garden

Zhouzhuang (Chinese: 周庄; pinyin: Zhōuzhuāng; Wu: Tseu-zaon) is a town famous for its canals in Jiangsu province, China. It is located within the administrative area of Kunshan, 30 km southeast of the city centre of Suzhou.

Zhouzhuang is a popular tourist destination, classified as a C- scenic area by the China National Tourism Administration.[1] It is one of the most famous water townships in China, noted for its profound cultural background, the well preserved ancient residential houses and the elegant watery views. It has been called the Venice of the East.[2][3]

This video is taken in our second day @ Zhouzhang,the place is very cold and relaxing at the same time.Early in the morning we go for a walk to find breakfast but it happen we just walk the sorrounding of the old town and just buy a noodles in one of their grocery.I also rent a traditional clothes for photo purposes.Its another wonderful experience and a great memories to be treasure and remember in future.
