We now have Tyrannosaurids, members of the family (of Tyrannosaurus Rex), from China, that are preserved with feathers, so we can also imagine seeing Tyrannosaurus not only in a bestiary with all these forbidding creatures but as a cute little stuffed animal on a toy shop with feathers. The second dimension here is really questions about its behaviour. 'Jurassic Park' and a lot of other media movies portray Tyrannosaurus running along about the speed of a horse at forty miles an hour, catching up with a jeep and pulling people off the jeep, but there's been some analysis by scientists that clearly show that these animals didn't move this rapidly, because the muscles required to move the mass of the body, required to move it at that speed, are just too great for the animal's skeleton.

14. SOUNDBITE: (English) Ellen Futter, president of the American Museum of Natural History:
There's still an immense amount to learn. But an enormous amount has been learned in a short ten years, a decade in scientific terms or in life terms is really very short. And we're still debating about extinction. Was it an asteroid? Was it a volcano? Was it activity in the sea? And you'll hear our own scientists debate about that. And so we have a wonderful section all about possibilities of extinction, remembering that we don't necessarily believe that they became truly extinct, but rather went on to become modern birds. Both of those are wonderful debates, and I think one of the most important things for the public to know about science is that we're still learning, we're still asking questions, and that's part of the thrill.

STORYLINE
A new exhibition at the American Museum of Natural History in New York showcases current research and theories about dinosaurs - how they moved, how they behaved, how they died.
The museum is continuing to rely on some tried-and-true methods of showing its subjects, including cases containing dinosaur fossils and a huge diorama featuring a landscape of prehistoric China.
But there's also some new technology being used.
Visitors will find computer screens where they can discover the mass of a particular dinosaur or its centre of gravity and how that would impact on the animal's running speed or range of motion, and contrast the dinosaurs with modern creatures.
There's also an animatronic Tyrannosaurus Rex, which has computer screens nearby showing a fleshed out animation of the dinosaur running.
Curator of Paleontology Michael Novacek said the work had resulted in a more detailed and realistic understanding of Tyrannosaurus Rex's appearance and behaviour.
