Many ..... times I ask myself in the long hours of work in the studio if my work is useful for others? The answer is not for me to answer, but for others. Is it only for satisfying one's *ego*, I ask myself.....?
Also I question the state-of-the-art at the beginning of the 21st century.....
Regarding the first question, I am not the one that decides the answer, it is others who decide, is Art useful or not.
Regarding the second question I have the feeling that art in its evolution, has almost lost all content relating to its original purpose, the reason for which art was created in the first place, if it was created for something and by somebody in particular?
To speak of information or beauty in art for many today sounds *decadent* or *archaic*...., their remains almost nothing of the art of yesterday in creativity today, possibly only the name, ART.
In this second reflection, two strong tendencies are unified inside me:- the first, the impossible illusion to return to the *renaissance* or to the *baroque*, and the second, to assume the responsibility of the *contemporary* in me, with the understanding, sad or not, that I probably form part of *cynisism* that is breathed today in the art.
The conclusions for me for this 2008 have been fantastic, with exhibitions in London, Ireland, France and returning in August to exhibit in England, besides three group shows in France.
I am afraid the motivation therefore for these writings and analysis is not so much for you, but for myself, to self-criticise, the remains of those *mesianic* thoughts which made me used to think I would change the world, in those days of being a student in Paris.
Project:- *Shitwhy shut up....??*
The project *Shit.....why shut up* as you will verify, is not intended to prove the good or bad education of individuals.......who by the way are obliged to be well educated? which probably one can also analyse?? If you have time, participate in this debate and also invite others to participate.
Thanks Felix Anaut

*Shit.....why shut up*
Contrary as to what it may seem *Shitwhy shut up* is a serious attempt, one of many, to analyse what there is behind....the content ofthe word ART if one gets rid of the adjectives that define *ART*, for example through history: Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance right up to the Contemporary and also if one suppresses the *Isms* that have defined the styles in art.
What remains in *ART* that is common to all the periods and styles ......??
Is *ART* information?
Is *ART* beauty ...........?
Is it materials, technique, content, imagination?
Is it all this or none of this, or yes.....this....or all that....?.....Is everything valid in *ART*, what is not valid.....?

During many years, after 1960, in particular in the New York School, figurative art had been defined as archaic, and those artists who dared themselves to try and exhibit in one of those very sophisticated galleries was often told *no* like an answer (if lucky) and in many cases without any answer. Our analysis started at this point. Possibly you can give your opinion, also possibly you have the power to spread this note to others to ave their opinion up to you

Sir Terry Frost, RA: A Review
For our Arundel Festival & Gallery Trail exhibition this year (1 to 25 August 2014) we are very pleased to present a Review of work by Sir Terry Frost, RA (1915-2003).
Working with his estate, we will show paintings (oil, gouache and watercolour), works on paper and prints (screen prints and woodcuts).
James Stewart, gallery director says “We have worked with Anthony Frost for a number of years, and now also Luke Frost, so it made sense to look back at the work of Terry Frost for the Arundel Festival and review his work in this context and close the centenary of his birth” Stewart continued “We have had unique access to select works which have not been seen for some time, and also pieces which people may not immediately associate with Sir Terry Frost, RA.”
In a career lasting over 60 years Terry Frost is recognised as one of the UK's foremost abstract painters, exhibiting regularly in London and throughout the world.
Having attended evening art classes from the age of 16, Terry Frost’s interest in painting started seriously when he was interned as a prisoner of war in Germany in 1943 with Adrian Heath. After the war he moved to St Ives and studied under Leonard Fuller before attending the Camberwell school, of Art under Passmore and Coldstream. In 1951 he worked as an assistant to Barbara Hepworth.
Terry Frost held many teaching positions including Bath Academy, Leeds University, Leeds College of Art before becoming Artist in Residence at the department of Fine Art Reading University in 1965, later he was the University’s Professor of Painting.
The owners of Badcock's Gallery, in Sir Terry's home town of Newlyn, said His unique ability to allow the joy of life to emanate from his work reduces the formal qualities of painting to a simplicity that is the unforgettable trade mark of this remarkable man.
Printmaking always played a key role in his work. For Terry Frost painting and printing were inseparable, with one medium creating ideas for the other.
Elected a Royal Academician in 1992, he was knighted in 1998. He exhibited extensively in Britain and the United States, and his work is held in museums and galleries worldwide, including Tate Britain, the Victoria and Albert and the British Museum.
In 2000 the Royal Academy staged a major retrospective of Frost's work to coincide with his 85th birthday.
In 2013 “Terry Frost: A Painter’s Life” was published to mark ten years since Terry Frost’s death. The author Roger Bristow has written the first full-length biography of the artist. The Zimmer Stewart Gallery will have signed copies available during the exhibition.
In early 2015 Tate St Ives will exhibit works by Terry Frost to mark the centenary of his birth.
Elaine Pamphilon: new paintings at Zimmer Stewart Gallery
Elaine Pamphilon's style is naive and like folk art: Her compositions do not incorporate perspective for example, but they are graphically accurate and we are familiar with her subjects. This familiarity combined with her sense of colour and use of text makes her paintings unique, immediately appealing and instantly recognisable.
Although these paintings exude simplicity, they are not. The compositions take time and experimentation to perfect - working and re-working a line till it is right.
The paintings in this exhibtion include landscapes, still life paintings and some smaller figurative works. All are mixed media on canvas or board.
Christmas at Zimmer Stewart Gallery 2015
This year we have something for everyone: small craft pieces up to large paintings.
Most of the artists on our website are represented in our Christmas Mixed Exhibition.

Richard Davidson 2009 - Born in Newcastle upon Tyne in 1946
Richard Davidson's elegantly selective paintings anatomise corporate man by coolly cataloguing his wardrobe and accessories. Davidson depicts the indispensable uniform of the power dressing 'city' business man: business coat, smart shoes, attach case, and so on, either in isolation or inseries, to create the visual itinerary of an identity, a portrait in discrete and impersonal objects. Abstracting these objects from their context of use and rendering their pristine state, as if they were sitting in a shop window or sailing down the production line, Davidson releases their latent strangeness. I paint images of recognisable objects (often items of clothing) on isolated, unadorned grounds.
Many of the images with which I work recall my prior career as a solicitor in the City – formal, polished shoes; ties; shirts and suits. There is an element of reflective nostalgia. They are painted with a sense of affection whilst, at the same time, they are designed to bring into play for the viewer issues such as loss of identity, uniformity (and clothes as uniform) and containment. The sense of isolation reflected in these City paintings also informs my more recent paintings of single trees and other objects I hope, however, that each viewer will bring their own associations with them when viewing these images of ordinary things. Spanish born artist Felix Anaut is now based in South West France, though also spends a lot time in Ireland. In recent years he has had considerable success and recognition, been embraced warmly by the European Art Scene, exhibiting widely
in both public and private sectors, notably in France, Spain, England, Italy and
Ireland, as well as other European countries.
Winter 2003 he was invited to participate in the Florence Biennale, where he won
the award Lorenzo el Magnifico of the city of Florence for his artistic career, in
front of some 890 artists from around the world. In 2005, he participated in the
Biennale de Basse Navarre, and was invited to exhibit work permanently in a new
Contemporary Art Museum in Casoria, Naples. Works by him are also in the
collections of various other museums, art institutions and other public spaces. Last
year, 2006, he was listed in the Spanish national newspaper, El Mundo in their
supplement of the 500 most influential Spanish people, 2006, under the Arts
section, alongside seven other artists, including such names as Tapies.
He started his academic studies with classes at the Circulo de Bellas Artes in
Madrid, finishing studying at the Ecole de Montparnasse d'Art et Dessin in Paris
in 1978-79. After Paris he returned to Madrid to continue painting, followed by
spending time living in Tangier and Ibiza (1982-83). During this period he
developed his interest in abstract painting, largely inspired from arabic
calligraphy.
In 1983, after studying a course on the history of porcelain at Christie's in London,
he decided to stay in England and continue painting, ending up settling in Belfast,
where he co-founded a contemporary art gallery. During the 7 year duration of the
gallery, Anaut dedicated less time to his personal work, due to his obligations with
the gallery, however continued to paint and exhibit sporadically.
In 1989-90 he returned to Spain and to painting full-time, returning to Ireland
regularly. From these dates onwards he has been dedicated to the development of his
work, returning to a strong investigation of figurative painting. In 2001 Anaut
moved his base from Spain to South West France, where he continues working, reflecting back in some of his new work to his past abstract painting, and keeping
in line also his powerful figurative work.
He has had numerous public interviews on television and radio about his work and
career, and wide press coverage in magazines, newspapers, etc, throughout his
career.
Some of his more notable exhibitions have included Los Artistas, an exhibition
where Anaut showed alongside 3 of his greatest heroes in the history of modern art,
Picasso, Miró and Bacon, sponsored by Arttank in Belfast, Ireland. Also, his
solo show in the Museum of Isaba, in Navarra, Spain and a Retrospective at the
Galerie des Tanneries in Nerac, France.
In 2005 he exhibited work in a new contemporary art museum in Casoria, Naples,
Italy, which remains in the permanent collection. He also had a solo show at the
Museum Albert Marzelles, Marmande in France, who have purchased work for their permanent collection.
In 2006 he had a huge solo exhibition under the title of 'Bacchanal - Art or
Decadence' at the Raymond Farbos Contemporary Art Centre, Mont de Marsan. He
also participated in the Belfast Arts Festival, with an exhibition under the title 'No
Hay Camino, Se Hace Camino Al Andar' ('There are no paths, one makes a path by
walking', Antonio Machado, 1875-1939).
2007 included his participation in the Process-Art Festival in Bulgaria, and
participation in various art fairs in France & Spain. During 2008 Felix has several
solo shows including a large show at SEVEN, Bedford Row, London, followed later by
the Market Place Arts Centre, Armagh, Ireland, and at FOUR in Moncuq, France, plus a large show at the Tanneries Galerie, Nerac, France. Finally a show with the Zimmer Stewart Gallery, as part of the Arundel Summer Festival. He will be participating in other European festivals and art fairs.
