Whistler Ziptrek Eagle Tour Zipline Ecotour
- Whistler Ziptrek Eagle Tour Zipline Ecotour.
If you love amazing wilderness scenery, crazy speed and you don't mind high places then you need to try the Ziptrek Eagle Tour Zipline Ecotour in beautiful Whistler BC Canada.
Now I have to admit I am a bit afraid of heights and on this zipline tour there where a few moments where I was wondering what I got myself into! Especially when we where waving around on a wooden platform attached to a single tree (a big one mind you) waving around from the wind... And the only way on and off was using plank suspension bridges. I was happy when that part of the trip was over :)
To be honest most of it was not so scary, the hard part is stepping off of the platform and trusting the line and harness are going to hold. Once you are zipping down that line at 80-90 km/h, the fear has been replaced with a rush and a grin!
On this Whistler Ziptrek Eagle Tour Zipline Ecotour, there where five ziplines in total two of them are around 2500 feet in length and one zipline drops 30 stories in total from start to finish. You can get up to speeds as high as 90 km/h on some of the faster ziplines and the highest point you are 350 feet off the ground! The trees zipping by really enhances the speed, it's hard to take it all in the first time around, I am going to have to go back again some day and try there newly planned to open (July of 2015) 7000 foot Blackcomb to Whistler dual side by side zipline that sets you as high as 600 feet above the ground...

Zipline Sasquatch, Ziptrek Ecotours, Whistler, BC Canada
Sasquatch is a monster zipline by Ziptrek Ecotours in Whistler, BC, Canada. It's the longest and fastest zipline in North America. There's a link at the end of this description.
Ziptrek data:
- Line is 2+ km or 7,000+ feet long. That's around 1.3 miles.
- Maximum distance of line above terra firma is about 182 meters or 600 feet.
Lon’s GPS-based data:
- I reached maximum speed of 146kph or 91mph in the first 20 seconds then began slowing down. See the speed tracker in the video.
- My run lasted 1 minute 22 seconds, during which I travelled 1,931 meters (1.9 kilometers) or 6,336 feet (1.2 miles).
- Starting elevation = 1,475 meters or 4,840 feet.
- Ending elevation = 985 meters or 3,233 feet.
- I dropped 490 meters or 1,607 feet of elevation in 1.9 kilometers or 1.2 miles.
- The line’s average slope = 25% or a 1:4 gradient or 14.04 degrees.
Laura and I have ziplined in Hawaii and Honduras -- Sasquatch is an incredible rush.
As the speedometer shows, I reached 91mph a few seconds into the ride. (Max speed skydiving is 120mph.) It's an intense minute and a half, well worth the time and cost. I did this 2018.09.29 at age 69, overcoming debilitating polyarthralgia and a robust fear of heights. No excuses.
By the way, that's Laura on the other line. I have no idea why I took off so fast but then she caught up at the end when we landed a mere two or three seconds apart. Considering at one point I could barely see her due to the distance between us, she must have very quickly gained a lot of speed in the last 30 or so seconds of the ride.
This is recorded at 1080p60 so be sure to go down to the lower left of your screen, tap/click the gear to open settings and pick the highest quality that your device will display. It might take a minute to upgrade the quality, but your eyes will love you for it. Oh, go to full screen too. Additionally, on the right, you'll see a compass with a speedometer, a speed tracker, and a satellite view with the GPS pathway.
I'm not an agent or getting any kind of remuneration for this. I merely believe in giving praise and support when it's due. And these folks rock. Thanks to Mitch and Sonia for a great time doing the first 10 lines. Sasquatch was our 11th and last line of the day.

North America's Longest Zipline - The Sasquatch, Whistler, B.C.
On this episode we’ll take a look at North America’s longest Zipline. The Sasquatch is a zipline built in 2016 that connects Whistler and Blackcomb mountains in British Columbia Canada. This 1.36 mile or 2.2 km zip line will be an experience like no other. The minimum weight per rider 65 lbs or 30 kgs to a maximum weight of 275 lbs or 125 kgs. You must be at least 10 years old to ride this mind-blowing zipline. The Sasquatch is a stand alone zipline that can be paired with the other tours ziptrek has to offer. It’s most commonly paired with the eagle tour, which features ziptrek’s 2nd longest zipline in whistler. Smoking, drugs and alcohol are not permitted on the tour at any time but you can get smashed at the bar before hand which is located only 20 feet from the meeting point, but don’t do this no drunk people on ziplines. The Sasquatch starts high up on Blackcomb Mountain at an elevation of almost 5000 feet or 1500 meters and drops steeply along the slope of Blackcomb Mountain before leaving the treeline, crossing the valley and coasting to the other side.
Getting up to the zipline is exhilarating in itself as you must ride in a bus that drives up the ski runs of the mountain. Hairpin turns with steep drops goes on for 10 minutes before you reach the start of the Sasquatch. As the zipline rounds out you are launched between the mountains. The moment the line decrease its slope the treeline ends to which you’ll be hit with a massive gust of wind spinning you wildly. As you coast downwards toward Whistler Mountain speed to continue to increase until about the halfway point. Top speeds around 87 - 93 mph or 140 - 150 km/h have been recorded. Depending on your speed The Sasquatch will last around a minute and half of constant zipping. This is about as close as it gets to the feeling of flying like a bird while still connected to the ground.
The Sasquatch can only be enjoyed during the summer months whereas the other less extreme ziplines ziptrek has, such as the eagle tour, can be enjoyed in the winter or at night time. There are also some treetop adventures to enjoy with platforms constructed way up on top of the tree with stairs and bridges connecting them.
