The Zuari bridge connects the villages of Agassaim, on the north bank of the river to Cortalim on the south bank of the river.
The Zuari River is the largest river in Goa and is a tidal river with a total length of 34 kilometres. The Zuari originates at Hemad-Barshem in the Western Ghats and flows in the Southern Western direction through the talukas of Tiswadi, Ponda, Mormugao, Salcete, Sanguem and Quepem.
The Zuari and Mandovi Rivers form the backbone of Goa's agricultural industry. The Cumbarjuem Canal, linking the two rivers has enabled ships navigate to the interior regions to the iron ore mines. The waters of the Mandovi and Zuari both flush out into the Arabian Sea at Cabo Aguada, a common point forming the Mormugao harbour. The port city of Vasco da Gama lies on the mouth of Zuari River.

Zuari bridge crossing in Goa
Thanks to Ashwini Mardolkar, we now know that this is the Mandovi bridge and not the Zuari bridge!
The Zuari bridge is is one of the most scenic and beautiful spots in Goa built across the Zuari river. The National Highway No. 17 runs through and is also considered a major link for two important districts of Goa. It links the capital city of Panaji in North Goa with Vasco da Gama and the Mormugao port in South Goa. The length of the bridge is 627 meters. It was constructed by Gammon India Limited and was completed in April 1983. This bridge has developed cracks time and again but with repairs and maintenance it sill is being used. It a longer when compared to the Mandovi bridge or Konkan railway bridge which runs parallel to it and is the longest bridge of the konkan railway.
Goa's history goes back to 20,000--30,000 years. The rock art engravings exhibit earliest traces of human life in India. Upper Paleolithic or Mesolithic rock art engravings have been found on the bank of river Kushavati at Usgalimal. Petroglyphs, cones, stone-axe, and choppers dating back 10,000 years back have been found in many places in Goa like Kazur, Mauxim, and the Mandovi-Zuari basin. Palaeolithic cave existence is seen at Dabolim, Adkon, Shigao, Fatorpa, Arli, Maulinguinim, Diwar, Sanguem, Pilerne, and Aquem-Margaon etc. Difficulty in carbon dating the laterite rock compounds poses problems in determination of exact time period.These discoveries have shed light on Goa's prehistory.

The Eight lane cable stayed bridge will taper into six lane approach roads on either sides for a total length of 7.2 km . These six lane approaches will further narrow into four lane roads .
Work began in October 2016 is expected to complete by January 2019
Total Length along with approach roads including 640 meters of cable stayed bridge will be 13.635 kms
Total cost including approaches will be 1403 crores

The Zuari River (Konkani: जुवारी Zuvari, pronounced [zuwəːriː]) is the largest river in the state of Goa, India. It is a tidal river. The Zuari originates at Hemad-Barshem in the Western Ghats. The Zuari is also referred to as the Aghanashani in the interior regions. It flows in the southern-western direction through the talukas of Tiswadi, Ponda, Mormugao, Salcete, Sanguem and Quepem.
Zuari is 92 km long, but is connected to other rivers and canals such as Mandovi river (62 km in length) and Cumbarjua Canal (15 km).[2] The other rivers in Goa are shorter such as Terekhol (22 km), Chapora (29 km), Baga (5 km), Sal (16 km), Talpona (11 km), and Galgibag (4 km). Their lengths and widths vary with tidal and other seasonal flooding.[3]
