alab'Arte: alabaster artisan in Volterra, Tuscany Italy
In the vicinity of the Tuscan town of Volterra alabaster is found. Alabaster is a soft, calcareous type of rock that can be processed by craftsmen into beautiful works of art, jewelery and utensils. I am visiting alab'Arte, the alabaster studio in Volterra by Roberto Chiti and Giorgio Finazzo.

60 Seconds at alab' Arte!
Volterra is known for its alabaster which is mined in the nearby hills. Through the centuries, this raw material has been transformed into beautiful works of art by skilled craftsmen. These craftsmen have passed down their trade from one generation to the next... until now. Unfortunately, many young Italians are leaving the small towns hoping for a better life in bigger cities.
The traditions lives on in Volterra! Down a small cobbled lane I found the alabaster workshop for alab' Arte, where Georgio is a master craftsman. We stopped in to look around and even persuaded Georgio to demonstrate his talents. In just minutes, he transformed a block of raw alabaster into a beautiful bowl! No visit to Volterra is complete without a visit to an authentic alabaster workshop.

Volterra is situated in the province of Pisa. My Brother & I decided to take a simple road test (car break-in! hehe!) plus our Parents decided also to join us. It's a simple and beautiful place. its like we travelled back in time. So If you guys are planning to travel here in Tuscany, don't forget to add this place to your travel list and visit the handicraft workshops, where you'll find many ideas for souvenirs from Tuscany, especially ALABASTER HANDMADE OBJECTS which Volterra is famous worldwide for.
P.S.
