Team Giorgio Furuno Ondeck kicks off Aegean Regatta 2019 training (4K)
With some 40 days to go until the 2019 edition of the Aegean Regatta, we hopped on board our Faliro Sailing club boat Giorgio Furuno Ondeck Sailing Team with a brand new crew to start training for the annual offshore sailing race.
Our skipper George (after whom the boat is named) wasn't kidding when he said we would be clocking in three training sessions a week. He wants us to be well prepared for Greece's best-known regatta, which heads to the islands of the North Aegean this year. Race legs will take in the islands of Mytilini (Lesvos), Oinousses and Psara.
After an initial briefing on land, the following day we cast off the bowlines and headed out of the Nautical Club of Palio Faliro into the Argosaronic Sea, as ominous grey clouds loomed overhead. We were pretty much the only crew out there training that afternoon.
The wind was blowing at a steady 14 knots, which soon increased to 16, and George had us warm up with a few tacks to start with. Before we got started, he leaped up onto the edge of boom and tightened the clew on the mainsail then ran down to the jib, as the boat heeled, and did the same.
Two members of our nine-strong crew recently completed their Greek offshore sailing permit course with the club and are regatta first-timers. On Giorgio, the women outnumber the men this year two to one. While the race legs in this year's Aegean Regatta are relatively short, competition will be stiff as the event draws boats and crews from all over the country and a few from abroad. Granted, the fastest boats are in the Performance category, whereas Giorgio - more a cruiser than a racer - is in the Sport category.
Our first session went well. We flew the spinnaker briefly, before the wind picked up, to give our newest crew members a taster of how it's done on Giorgio.
Then, as we headed back to Flisvos Marina, we could hear a DJ rousing the crowd as the one-day Primer Festival wound down at nearby Platia Nerou (Nerou Square) in Faliro. George bypassed our marina and we sailed toward the magenta lights streaking across a cloudy early evening sky and the electro house music booming out of the speakers. We hung out awhile, along with ticketless fans outside the venue entrance, and heard the last few minutes of the show - before the power went out and the DJ profusely apologised to the audience. It was a fun way to conclude our first session out on the water with Giorgio, getting to know our fellow crew members.

History of money
The history of money concerns the development of means of carrying out transactions involving a physical medium of exchange. Money is any clearly identifiable object of value that is generally accepted as payment for goods and services and repayment of debts within a market or which is legal tender within a country.
Many things have been used as medium of exchange in markets including, for example, livestock and sacks of cereal grain (from which the Shekel is derived) – things directly useful in themselves, but also sometimes merely attractive items such as cowry shells or beads were exchanged for more useful commodities. Precious metals from which early coins were made fall into this second category.

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone.

SUMMARY
=======
The metre (Commonwealth spelling and BIPM spelling) or meter (American spelling) (from the French unit mètre, from the Greek noun μέτρον, measure) is the base unit of length in the International System of Units (SI). The SI unit symbol is m. The metre is defined as the length of the path travelled by light in a vacuum in 1/299 792 458 of a second. The metre was originally defined in 1793 as one ten-millionth of the distance from the equator to the North Pole along a great circle so that said distance would amount to simply 10,000 kilometres and ease global navigational computation. As a result, the Earth's circumference is approximately 40,000 km. In 1799, the metre was redefined in terms of a prototype metre bar (the actual bar used was changed in 1889). In 1960, the metre was redefined in terms of a certain number of wavelengths of a certain emission line of krypton-86. In 1983, the current definition was adopted.
The imperial inch is defined as 0.0254 metres (2.54 centimetres or 25.4 millimetres). One metre is about 3 3⁄8 inches longer than a yard, i.e. about 39 3⁄8 inches.
