Coal Loader Waverton: DSLR Doco
OK - I know, I know. It's not a car review video. I don't generally do 'art' - but it was a tough week. So: art.
The old coal loader at Waverton is a great subject - I'm sure most people don't even know it exists. And I wanted to see what was possible, film-wise, with a cheap Canon DSLR camera, a couple of lenses, a tripod and a cine-slider.

International Day for People with Disability at The Coal Loader
North Sydney Council recently celebrated International Day of People with Disability at the Coal Loader Centre for Sustainability, with students from our local schools.
The kids met a Guide Dog, experienced what it would be like to be without sight, play a game of wheelchair basketball, met Paul Nunnari (aka The Other Superman), and heard first-hand what life is like for people living with a disability.
Anca
This video is a portrait of contemporary dancer Anca Frankenhauser, with a cameo of percussionist Patricia Borrell, filmed during The Red Project at the Coal Loader, Waverton.
My artistic practise focuses on textiles and more specifically, their inherent tactility. In this video I created an installation of silk organza threaded through with thousands of horsehairs in the vast chambers of the Coal Loader at Waverton, Sydney. I chose to use hair because it is a product of skin, and it is the thread between us and the world we inhabit. Anca’s sensitive, tactile performance and her bare and beautiful head draws attention to the memory we have of hair on skin. Performing a composition by Kate Moore, Ashley Bathgate draws a horsehair bow across the strings of her cello, and Patricia plays a Syrian skin drum, amplifying the theme.
