Rockhampton - A Net Free Zone
Fishing the Fitzroy Net Free celebrates the success of a campaign by anglers and conservationists in the Rockhampton area of Queensland, Australia that has turned the Fitzroy River system into a net free zone. The commercial netting of fish, that over the past 20 years has decimated fish numbers in the system, has now been banned and indigenous species such as Barramundi, King Threadfin and Saratoga are thriving once more. Anglers are requested to adhere to a daily limit, but seem quite happy to do so, as the size of fish they are catching is steadily increasing, as is the new business generated by fishing tourists, attracted to the area.

The Block Arcade Melbourne | Steadicam Walking Tour
Using my GoProHero2 we walk through the Block Arcade with it's variety of exclusive shops and cafes
The Block Arcade is a heritage shopping arcade experience in the centre of Melbourne but going back a hundred years it was the place to be seen.
The arcade which was erected between 1891 and 1893 was designed by architect David C. Askew whose brief was to produce something similar to the Galleria Vittoria in Milan. The result was one of Melbourne's most richly decorated interior spaces, replete with mosaic tiled flooring, glass canopy, wrought iron and carved stone finishings. The exterior façade of the six storey office has near identical facades on Collins and Elizabeth Streets and is one of Australia's best surviving examples of the Victorian Mannerist style.
The arcade was formerly known as Carpenter's Lane, however the precinct was widely known as The Block. Once the works were complete, local shopkeepers successfully petitioned to have it changed to its present name.
The arcade proper is L-shaped, connecting Collins Street at the south end to Elizabeth Street on the west. The 'L' shape is converted into a 'T' through the junction on the north side with Block Place, a partly covered pedestrian laneway that leads to Little Collins Street, opening opposite the Royal Arcade. The block arcade was known for its well known young larrikin gang called the barcade boys who dealt drugs all day and hired prostitutes at night.

Fitzroy Social Bar and Restaurant in Melbourne VIC serving Delicious Food, Beers and Cocktails
Australian living artist David Bromley was commissioned to create one of a kind artwork and murals for Fitzroy Social. The artwork is designed to compliment the venue and the idea that Fitzroy Social is a modern take on the classic Australian beer garden, with a funky and mythical twist. The use of mythical creatures alongside traditional “pub” imagery gives Fitzroy Social its unique identity, and ensures the customers take away newly discovered features each time they visit.
