Northern VANCOUVER ISLAND travel vlog | Driving to PORT ALICE, BC
Come join us as we head to Northern Vancouver Island in this travel vlog saying goodbye to the Comox Valley area en route to Port Alice, BC. Having spent quite a bit of time in an around Mount Washington and Comox it was time for us to explore the more rugged and sparsely populated northern region of Vancouver Island.
The drive itself was incredibly scenic as we opted for the old island highway hugging the coastline all the way to Campbell River. Before grabbing groceries and gas, something we'd recommend doing before heading all the way up north, we stopped off at a beach to stretch our legs and admire the views.
The rest of the drive was pleasant and relaxing as there were less vehicles on the road as you head further north. In fact, we probably saw just as many logging trucks as we did other trucks. Along the way we stopped for a picnic lunch nearby a lake.
Upon arriving in Port Alice we were all tired and hungry. For dinner we cooked up some pasta which we served with red wine. We're very excited to be in this northern regional of Vancouver Island because not too many people make it all the way up here. In terms of what we plan on doing over the coming days we're hoping to visit Port Alice and nearby towns Port McNeill, Port Hardy and Telegraph Cove. We also plan to do some island hopping to Alert Bay and Malcolm Island.
Please stay tuned for more episodes from Vancouver Island coming out soon!

Northern VANCOUVER ISLAND travel vlog | Driving to PORT ALICE, BC
Come join us for an epic road trip to Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada where we partner with Trover to cover the island from the south all the way up to the north. Unlike most Vancouver Island road trips and travel series which focus on the triangle of Vancouver, Nanaimo and Tofino, we branch off and visit lesser-known places such as Gold River, Port Alice and Malcolm Island just to name a few.
Our trip to Vancouver Island starts off with a flight from Toronto to Vancouver, followed by the shortest flight of our lives from Vancouver to Victoria. From Victoria, we head to our base of Mount Washington in the central part of the island, where highlights include spotting black bears, hiking in Mount Washington and visiting vineyards in Comox.
Our journey then continues to Gold River, Sam's hometown, where we board the Uchuck III en route to Friendly Cove. We also go to nearby Campbell River where we walk along a beautiful fishing dock, tour a hatchery and come across a black bear, and hike in Elk Falls which was our favourite hike on this entire journey.
Heading to northern Vancouver Island, we base ourselves in Port Alice and visit the nearby towns of Port McNeill, Port Hardy and Telegraph Cove. For separate day trips, we take the ferry to Malcolm Island where we visit the former Finnish Community of Sointula and take another ferry to Alert Bay where we have the opportunity to appreciate First Nations totem poles, artwork and museums.
Our Vancouver Island road trip concludes with visits to Parksville, Nanaimo and Victoria. Overall, it was one of the best road trips we've ever done focusing mostly on nature, outdoor adventure, wildlife spotting and visiting off-the-beaten-path villages and communities that have a lot to offer but aren't that well known.
If you are thinking of doing a Canada road trip, Vancouver Island should be at the top of your list. For more information and tips on all the places we visited on Vancouver Island, you can check out this Trover list:

Explainer: Why so many are criticizing Nova Scotia's forest harvesting map tool
For those who've raised their voice in concern about clear cutting in Nova Scotia, one of the only methods they have to understand the current state of harvesting is a provincially managed online map. But critics say it's not giving the public an accurate picture of what forests are coming down and where.

Fun Facts:
Vancouver (væŋˈkuːvər/ or /vænˈkuːvər/; Sḵwx̱wú7mesh: K'emk'emelay), officially the City of Vancouver, is a coastal seaport city on the mainland of British Columbia, Canada. The 2011 census recorded 603,502 people in the city, making it the eighth largest Canadian municipality. The Greater Vancouver area of around 2.4 million inhabitants is the third most populous metropolitan area in the country and the most populous in Western Canada. Vancouver is one of the most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities in Canada; 52% of its residents have a first language other than English. Vancouver is classed as a Beta global city. The City of Vancouver encompasses a land area of about 114 square kilometres, giving it a population density of about 5,249 people per square kilometre (13,590 per square mile). Vancouver is the most densely populated Canadian municipality, and the fourth most densely populated city over 250,000 residents in North America, behind New York City, San Francisco, and Mexico City.
The original settlement, named Gastown, grew up on clearcuts on the west edge of the Hastings Mill logging sawmill's property, where a makeshift tavern had been set up on a plank between two stumps and the proprietor, Gassy Jack, persuaded the curious millworkers to build him a tavern, on July 1, 1867. From that first enterprise, other stores and some hotels quickly appeared along the waterfront to the west. Gastown became formally laid out as a registered townsite dubbed Granville, B.I. (B.I standing for Burrard Inlet). As part of the land and political deal whereby the area of the townsite was made the railhead of the CPR, it was renamed Vancouver and incorporated shortly thereafter as a city, in 1886. By 1887, the transcontinental railway was extended to the city to take advantage of its large natural seaport, which soon became a vital link in a trade route between the Orient, Eastern Canada, and Europe. As of 2009, Port Metro Vancouver is the busiest and largest port in Canada, and the most diversified port in North America. While forestry remains its largest industry, Vancouver is well known as an urban center surrounded by nature, making tourism its second-largest industry. Major film production studios in Vancouver and Burnaby have turned Metro Vancouver into one of the largest film production centres in North America, earning it the film industry nickname, Hollywood North.
Vancouver is consistently named as one of the top five worldwide cities for livability and quality of life, and the Economist Intelligence Unit acknowledged it as the first city to rank among the top-ten of the world's most livable cities for five consecutive years. Vancouver has hosted many international conferences and events, including the 1954 British Empire and Commonwealth Games, UN Habitat I, Expo 86, and the World Police and Fire Games in 1989 and 2009. In 2014, following thirty years in California, Vancouver became the indefinite home of the annual TED conference. Canada will host the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup, and several matches will be played in Vancouver, including the final at BC Place Stadium. The 2010 Winter Olympics and 2010 Winter Paralympics were held in Vancouver and nearby Whistler, a resort community 125 km (78 mi) north of the city.

NORTH VANCOUVER British Columbia CANADA - Suburb - Driving to Deep Cove - Sightseeing Drive
This is part 2 of our North Vancouver series. We start from the 2nd Narrow's bridge which takes us to Dollarton Highway (speed limit is 50 km per hour) 0:18. We pass by a couple of parks and a conservation area. At 8:16, we reach Deep Cove, a nice and close place to escape the big city chaos of Vancouver.
We head back on our route and take a right at Mount Seymour Parkway 11:02. There aren't too many sightseeing spots here but we are sure that you will enjoy the beautiful nature and trees that North Vancouver, British Columbia offers.
The music was performed by Free Jazz Vancouver, a group that likes to improvise.
