1. StonehengeAmesbury Stonehenge is a prehistoric monument in Wiltshire, England, 2 miles west of Amesbury. It consists of a ring of standing stones, with each standing stone around 13 feet high, 7 feet wide and weighing around 25 tons. The stones are set within earthworks in the middle of the most dense complex of Neolithic and Bronze Age monuments in England, including several hundred burial mounds.Archaeologists believe it was constructed from 3000 BC to 2000 BC. The surrounding circular earth bank and ditch, which constitute the earliest phase of the monument, have been dated to about 3100 BC. VISIT WILLIAM TYNDAL MONUMENT - FREE THINGS TO DO IN SOUTH WEST ENGLAND
Standing high on top of Nibley Knoll stands the William Tyndale Monument.
The tower stands 111ft tall and dominates the skyline of the peaceful village of Nibley.
On a clear day a 120 step climb to the top will be rewarded with fantastic views across the river Severn as far as Wales.
Parking is available in a lay-by at the foot of the hill, and a 10 - 15 minute walk of medium difficulty will take you to the peak of the hill where the tower stands.
There is an honesty box at the entrance to the tower if you decide climb to the top, please give generously as all money goes towards upkeep and maintenance of this magnificent monument.
The tower was constructed in 1863 in remembrance of William Tyndale l who gave his life to translate the New Testament into English in 1526.
