Oman is an Arab country on the southeastern coast of the Arabian Peninsula. Holding a strategically important position at the mouth of the Persian Gulf, the country shares land borders with the United Arab Emirates to the northwest, Saudi Arabia to the west, and Yemen to the southwest, and shares marine borders with Iran and Pakistan. The coast is formed by the Arabian Sea on the southeast and the Gulf of Oman on the northeast.
From the late 17th century, the Omani Sultanate was a powerful empire, vying with Portugal and Britain for influence in the Persian Gulf and Indian Ocean. Historically, Muscat was the principal trading port of the Persian Gulf region. Muscat was also among the most important trading ports of the Indian Ocean. Oman's official religion is Islam.
Oman is an absolute monarchy. The Sultan Qaboos bin Said al Said has been the hereditary leader of the country since 1970. Sultan Qaboos is the longest-serving current ruler in the Middle East, and fourth-longest current reigning monarch in the world.
At Aybut Al Auwal, in the Dhofar Governorate of Oman, a site was discovered in 2011 containing more than 100 surface scatters of stone tools, belonging to a regionally specific African lithic industry –the late Nubian Complex– known previously only from the northeast and Horn of Africa.
Dereaze, located in the city of Ibri, is the oldest known human settlement in the area, dating back as many as 8,000 years to the Late Stone Age. Archaeological remains have been discovered here from the Stone Age and the Bronze Age. Many such tribes settled in Oman, making a living by fishing, herding or stock breeding.
Sumerian tablets refer to a country called Magan or Makan, a name believed to refer to Oman's ancient copper mines. Mazoon, another name used for the region, is derived from the word muzn, which means heavy clouds which carry abundant water. The present-day name of the country, Oman, is believed to originate from the Arab tribes who migrated to its territory from the Uman region of Yemen.
From the 6th century BC to the arrival of Islam in the 7th century AD, Oman was controlled and/or influenced by three Persian dynasties: the Achaemenids, Parthians and Sassanids. The conversion of the Omanis is usually ascribed to Amr ibn al-As, who was sent by the Prophet Muhammad [PBUH] during the Expedition of Zaid ibn Haritha(Hisma).

Al-Musannah or Al-Mussanah (Arabic: المصنعة) is a town in the Al Batinah Region of northern Oman. As of 2010 it had a population of 6,291. The 2010 Asian Beach Games were hosted in Oman at Al-Musannah Sports City.Al-Musannah Sports City was a big hotel in Oman.
Wakan Village - Muscat - Oman's hidden treasures.
This is one of Oman's hidden treasures. Some 700+ steps which seems to take you toward the heavens in this well maintained and nurtured little village. It is essentially a hard steep uphill walk with scenery to die for. You meet many of the local villagers as they tend their land on the way up and you are always warmly greeted. Well worth the visit if in the area and a great sense of achievement when you reach the top.
The village sits at 2,000 metres above sea level in Wadi Mastal in Wilayt Nakhal, located in Al Batinah South Governorate. 150 kilometres separate this village from Muscat. The road leading to the village passes through a number of valleys where the villages can only be reached by a four-wheel-drive vehicle.

This beach is located at Barka in Al Batinah South Governorate. It lies 70 kilometres from the capital Muscat. What distinguishes this beach are the beautiful rock islands scattered close to the coast. These islands lend a touch of the artistic to the location and are an important spot for both migratory and indigenous birds.
I love traveling and I have traveled to many countries..but my most favorite country is Thailand and then comes the Philippines, there are more 7 thousands beautiful,exotic and tropical islands in the Philippines. I have been to Thailand several times since 2010. Traveling is something which teaches you many new things in your life and opens a ways in your life to see, taste and experience the things you have never done in your life before. Wadi Bani Awf (وادي بني عوف), also spelled Wadi Bani Awuf, is a large wadi in wilayat Al Rustaq in the South Batinah Governorate of Oman. The wadi covers a large area with several villages and lots of cool attractions worth visiting, including the famous Snake Canyon! The route through Wadi Bani Awuf goes through beautiful scenery and connects all the way to Bilad Sayat in Al Dakhiliya region by crossing the Hajr Mountains and offers some of the best off-road driving experience you can find.
We referred to the Oman Off-road Guide during our visit to Wadi Bani Awf (which is a great book that we highly recommend for anyone wanting to explore Oman with their 4WD) and managed to visit the “smaller” Snake Canyon. You can’t refer to Wadi Bani Awf as a single attraction due to the large area it encompasses so we we will attempt to break-up the places we visited in this post.

Muscat (Arabic: مسقط, Masqaṭ ) is the capital and largest metropolitan city of Oman. It is also the seat of government and largest city in the Governorate of Muscat.
Muscat is located in northeast Oman, at 24°00′N 57°00′E. The Tropic of Cancer passes south of the area. It is bordered to its west by the plains of the Al Batinah Region and to its east by Ash Sharqiyah Region. The interior plains of the Ad Dakhiliyah Region border Muscat to the south, while the Gulf of Oman forms the northern and western periphery of the city. The water along to coast of Muscat runs deep, forming two natural harbours, in Muttrah and Muscat. The Western Al Hajar Mountains run through the northern coastline of the city.
Muscat is also considered as a Global City. According to the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI), the total population of Muscat Governorate reached 1.28 million as of September 2015. The metropolitan area spans approximately 3,500 km2 (1,400 sq mi) and includes six provinces called wilayats. Known since the early 1st century CE as an important trading port between the west and the east, Muscat was ruled by various indigenous tribes as well as foreign powers such as the Persians, the Portuguese Empire and the Ottoman Empire at various points in its history. A regional military power in the 18th century, Muscat's influence extended as far as East Africa and Zanzibar. As an important port-town in the Gulf of Oman, Muscat attracted foreign tradesmen and settlers such as the Persians and the Balochis. Since the ascension of Qaboos bin Said as Sultan of Oman in 1970, Muscat has experienced rapid infrastructural development that has led to the growth of a vibrant economy and a multi-ethnic society.
The rocky Western Al Hajar Mountains dominate the landscape of Muscat. The city lies on the Arabian Sea along the Gulf of Oman and is in the proximity of the strategic Straits of Hormuz. Low-lying white buildings typify most of Muscat's urban landscape, while the port-district of Muttrah, with its corniche and harbour, form the north-eastern periphery of the city. Muscat's economy is dominated by trade, petroleum and porting.
Muscat's economy, like that of Oman, is dominated by trade. The more traditional exports of the city included dates, mother of pearl, and fish. Many of the souks of Muttrah sell these items and traditional Omani artefacts. Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) has been central to Muscat's economy since at least 1962 and is the country's second largest employer, after the government. قلعة نخل من أبرز المعالم الأثرية لولاية نخل في منطقة الباطنة وتتربع بفخامة على نتوء صخري يصل ارتفاعه إلى 200 قدمًا في سفوح جبال الحجر الغربي في ولاية نخل بمنطقة الباطنة في سلطنة عمان.
وتقف قلعة نخل التي يعود تاريخ بنائها إلى عهد ما قبل الإسلام. تم تجديدها في القرنين الثالث والعاشر الهجري خلال فترة حكم أئمة بني خروص واليعاربة، أما الباب الخارجي وسور القلعة وأبراجها فقد بنيت في عهد الإمام سعيد بن سلطان وذلك في عام 1250هـ / 1834م.
The fort is approximately 120 kilometres to the west of Muscat, the capital of Oman, at the entrance of Wilayt Nakhal in Wadi Ar Raqeem. It is situated on a rocky prominence at the foot of Jebel Nakhal, a spur of the main Western Hajar range. It is to the northeast of Jabal Akhdar also called green mountain. Nakhal Fort is surrounded by orchards of palm trees. Its battlements provide a view of the Al-Batinah Region. The ancient Nakhal village is below the fort and close by is the warm springs of Ain A'Thawwarah.

Sohar (Suhar) is the Capital and biggest city of this Al Batinah North Governorate at Oman. An early capital of the nation that worked as a significant Islamic port city, Suhar has also been credited as the legendary birthplace of Sinbad the Sailor.
In accordance with the 2010 census, Suhar's inhabitants were 140,006, Which makes it Oman's fifth most-populated settlement. Described as a commercial city, the growth of the Sohar Industrial Port throughout the 2000s has changed it into a significant Omani industrial hub.
