The Wachau is an Austrian valley with a picturesque landscape formed by the Danube river. It is one of the most prominent tourist destinations of Lower Austria, located midway between the towns of Melk and Krems that also attracts connoisseurs and epicureans for its high-quality wines. It is 40 kilometres in length and was already settled in prehistoric times. A well-known place and tourist attraction is Dürnstein, where King Richard the Lion-Heart of England was held captive by Duke Leopold V. The Seegrotte, near Hinterbrühl, Austria, is a cave system with a large grotto located under a former gypsum mine. It was closed in 1912 after the mine flooded with 20 million liters of water. It became a tourist attraction after 1930 and has been one ever since, with the exception of World War II. The lake is 60 meters below ground, the water surface is 6200 m² and pumps are used to keep the waterlevel down.Visitors can tour the old mine and take a boat ride across the underground lake.

Schloss Hof is a palace located in Austria near the border of Slovakia. It once belonged to Prince Eugene of Savoy who purchased it late in his life in 1726. He had it enlarged in the Baroque style by the architect Johann Lukas von Hildebrandt in 1729, and used it as an elaborate hunting lodge. He left it to a niece in his will, and it was later purchased by Empress Maria Theresa of Austria and became part of the imperial estates.

VIENNA TRAVEL GUIDE:

We spend a day touring around Vienna and discovered some of the best things to do in the city in a day!

We started out on a run though the Schönbrunn Palace (summer palace), where we bought tickets to explore the beautiful gardens, but later discovered the free area behind the palace, including beautiful fountains.

Next up we visited the Naschmarkt where we tried some Austrian food including a type of sausage called Käsekrainer and apple strudel.

After the market we explored the city some some eventually coming across the famous church, St. Stephen’s Cathedral.

Lastly we took a walk along the Danube Canal where we encountered lots of streets art and interesting bars along the water.

Vienna:
Vienna has a long tradition in the European continent. It was first establish during the first century AD, when the Romans established the military camp Vindobona. Today the city is characterised by the abundance of baroque buildings created during the period of Empress Maria Theresa and Emperor Franz Joseph.

Vienna has more museums and galleries of international reputation than you can imagine. The museum of Fine Arts with the world’s largest collection of Bruegel paintings, MuseumQuartier with the Leopold Museum, the Museum Moderner Kunst, Architekturzentrum, and Kunsthalle Vienna is also known for the many celebrate composes who lived and worked here. Schonbrunn Palace, the former imperial summer residence, is one of Vienna's most popular sights. The sumptuous palace with its beautifully tended formal gardens, the Gloriette monument, Palm House and zoo attracts hordes of visitors each year. Then there is the huge Hofburg (Imperial Palace), which was the base of the Habsburgs for over six centuries.

Naschmarkt:Since the 16th century people in Austria has come to the Naschmarkt get to enjoy the many different products which would be brought here by vendors of the city farmers from the outside of the city, and those that came from overseas by boats and ships from different parts of the world that were once connected to the Austrian empire.
Today the market serves a wide variety of different purposes, serving not only the local residents of the area who come here to do their daily food shopping, but also visitors from around the globe who come to enjoy the main sights and sounds of the market.

St Stephen’s Cathedral: Visit St. Stephen’s Cathedral and you’ll be standing in the same church in which Joseph Haydn sang as a choir boy, and in which Mozart was married in 1782. From the very beginning, the cathedral has played an important part in Vienna’s spiritual and worldly affairs. Embark on a discovery tour of St. Stephen’s (or Steffl, as the Viennese lovingly call it), and as you uncover its hidden secrets, descend into its catacombs, and climb its lofty towers, you’ll also learn about the history of the city itself.

Danube Canal: The Donaukanal is a former arm of the river Danube, now regulated as a water channel, within the city of Vienna, Austria. It is 17.3 kilometres long and, unlike the Danube itself, it borders Vienna's city centre, Innere Stadt, where the Wien River flows into it.

The Semmering Railroad is a remarkable alpine railway line that has been operating in Austria for a hundred and fifty years.Construction of a railroad across mountain terrain posed a major problem but the Semmering Mountain Railway that embarked from Payerbach overcame all obstacles. One of the most impressive architectural achievements of the railroad is the two hundred and twenty seven metre long and twenty four metre high Schwarza Viaduct. The railway line to the Semmering Pass contains sixteen viaducts, more than a hundred bridges and fifteen tunnels. A huge quantity of manpower was used to create it with twenty thousand workers engaged to complete the daunting task. However, the line was inaugurated after only six years of construction. Steam trains were eventually replaced by electric trains but the railway itself has hardly changed at all and continues to form part of a fascinating and irresistible combination of both technology and Nature.

High up on an old vineyard Schloss Vitzenburg is located. The castle is surrounded by a landscape you couldn't paint more beautiful. This mansion in the Neo-Renaissance style is visible from far away, so it became the landmark of the region. But the owner of the castle isn’t interested in rescuing it. Instead it’s decaying more and more. For decades this place has been closed to the public. But a short time ago we had the chance to enter the castle. We set out on a search for clues, to find out what happened to this historical site which had become famous because of a story about a witch.
