The Cataract Dam, one of four dams and weirs in the catchment of the Upper Nepean Scheme, in New South Wales, Australia, provides water to the Macarthur and Illawarra regions, the Wollondilly Shire, and metropolitan Sydney. Completed in 1907 under the supervision of Ernest Macartney de Burgh, the dam is currently owned by Water NSW, an agency of the Government of New South Wales. The dam was listed on the NSW State Heritage Register on 18 November 1999.

The Australian Reptile Park is located at Somersby on the Central Coast, New South Wales in Australia. It is about 50 kilometres North of Sydney, and is just off the Sydney-Newcastle Freeway. The park is home to a variety of reptiles, including snakes, lizards and crocodiles, as well as other Australian animals, such as koalas, kangaroos, cassowaries and Tasmanian devils. The park is heavily involved in snake and spider venom collection for use in the production of Antivenom and is credited for saving the lives of thousands. It is an institutional member of the Zoo and Aquarium Association .

The Jenolan Caves are limestone caves located within the Jenolan Karst Conservation Reserve in the Central Tablelands region, west of the Blue Mountains, in New South Wales, in eastern Australia. The caves and 3,083-hectare reserve are situated approximately 175 kilometres west of Sydney, 20 kilometres east of Oberon and 30 kilometres west of Katoomba. The caves are the most visited of several similar groups in the limestone caves of the country, and the most ancient discovered open caves in the world. Bundanoon, like its fellow Southern Villages of the Southern Highlands, New South Wales, has had a boom-and-bust economic cycle. The town became a well-known tourist destination early in the 20th century; its picturesqueness and the exquisite scenery of what is now Morton National Park, combined with being a stop on the CityRail railway line, made it a pleasant and convenient holiday area for city dwellers who could not afford the more expensive accommodation at the popular Blue Mountains resort area. By the 1950s, however, changes in lifestyle, particularly the affordability of the motor car, gave city dwellers more options, and Bundanoon declined.

The Sydney real estate boom of the early 21st century made Bundanoon an affordable haven within commuting distance of the City. Property values increased several-fold, and houses in Bundanoon were selling for over a million dollars by 2007. A moratorium has been placed on the construction of new subdivisions until the area's sewerage system can be upgraded.

Montezuma Falls 4wd track / Waterfalls of Tasmania

On the west coast of Tasmania is Montezuma Falls.

There is a walk in option (3hrs return) or a 4wd track.

The track follows the old North East Dundas Tramway (closed in 1932) through rainforest to the spectacular Montezuma Falls, at 104m one of the highest waterfalls in Tasmania.

From Zeehan, take the B27 for approximately 5 km to the Murchison Highway and turn left (north). Another 5 km on is the Melba Flats railway siding turn right here onto the 4WD track. It is approximately 14 kms to the carpark and a few hundred metres walk to the falls across a suspension bridge.

There were loads of washouts, followed by more and more deeper puddles and small creek crossings. There were a few technical spots and one very off camber section but all in all not a difficult drive at all.

The Montezuma Falls were beautiful. There is a thin steel sway-bridge across the gorge and gives an awesome view of the drop! We spent about 10 mins there having a chat and taking some photos before returning to the 4wds to head back.

There is also an alternate route out through the Ring River track that comes out near Renison Bell. This track is graded hard and should not be attempted when there is a high rainfall or if you are travelling alone. The sign states “ 'Extreme Grade 4wd Track Only. A minimum of two well equipped 4wds, and dangerous, possible life threatening river crossings, impassable in heavy rain. Unfortunately we did not get a chance to try this track on our visit as it was very late in the afternoon and we were in a convoy of cars where we decided it best to take the same way out as we came in.

The return trip was a lot faster than on the way, I guess we felt more comfortable on the tracks and were more familiar with the terrain! On the way to the falls with all the stops etc., we ticked over 2.5 hours and saved a heap of time on the way back!

Georges River Parkland, Picnic Point. NSW Australia

The Georges River, formerly known as Tucoerah River, is an intermediate tide dominated drowned valley estuary, located to the south and west of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.

The source of the Georges River is upland swamps of the O'Hares Creek catchment, approximately 80 kilometres (50 mi) to the south-west of Sydney central business district between the town of Appin and the Illawarra Escarpment. The river travels for approximately 96 kilometres (60 mi) in a north and then easterly direction to its mouth at Botany Bay, about 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) from the Tasman Sea. The Georges River is the main tributary of Botany Bay; with the Cooks River being a secondary tributary.

The total catchment area of the river is approximately 930.9 square kilometres (359.4 sq mi) and the area surrounding the river is managed by a large number of local government authorities and NSW Government agencies.

The land adjacent to the Georges River was occupied for many thousands of years by the Tharawal and Eora Aboriginal peoples. They used the river as an important source of food and a place for trade.

Hail Storm in Australia
