Pyramiden a Russian Ghost Town | Travel Film from Svalbard with Drone
Pyramiden is an abandoned ghost town 78,4 degrees north. Only 800 miles from the North Pole. Take a tour with me in inside this deserted town from the Soviet - Era.One of the northernmost permanent settlements.
And maybe, just maybe, I will show you how it looks from above!
I say maybe because sometimes not everything goes as planned.
Come with me as I walk through the city and inside the cultural center where I will play on the northernmost piano.
I have one major goal here. As a man with a drone I have my mind set that I want to fly in and over this abandoned russian town. And this is a unique location! A premium destination to explore.
This town was founded by Sweden in 1910 and sold to Soviet Union in 1927.
In 1998 all 1000 inhabitants was gone leaving everything behind.
Today only six people inhabit this village, working as guides or in the hotel or the bar made availble for the tourist that travel here.
The buildings is, and will be, preserved a long time ,up to 500 years, because of the artic climate.
In the city they had a hospital, kindergarden, school, a house for single women, one for single men and one for the families. The latter called the Mad House because of all the noise.
This is the final part of my 3 part series from Svalbard or Spitsbergen as it is also refered to. And what a trip it has been. So much we experienced in this short time. Fossilhunting in Longyearbyen, Boattrip on the road to the Pyramid and finally this tour through and maybe over Pyramiden.
I ve spent alot of time on these videos and I hope that you appreciate the effort I put into these drone film /videos. And I hope you will like and subscribe to my channel!

Svalbard in Norway 2019
Svalbard, Norway's pearl with a magical atmosphere and nature that does not exist anywhere else in the world. Snowmobile trip from Longyearbyen to Barentsburg is a must! Here's a video from our trip that might motivate you to go there :D
Boat Trips in Svalbard
If you want to see and experience as much of the wild, raw and untouched Arctic nature as possible, you need to go on a boat trip or a combined cruise and fishing trip. Svalbard's unique wildlife is also best seen from a boat, and among the most popular activities you'll find walrus safari and whale safari. The Russian settlements is also reached by boat, both in summer and winter, and there are serveral touroperators offering day trips to both Barentsburg and Pyramiden.
The Northernmost Town in the World: Ny-Ålesund - SPITSBERGEN/SVALBARD
Ny-Ålesund is a research town on the island of Spitsbergen in Svalbard (Norway). It is the northernmost inhabited place on Earth with an around the year population of only 30-35.
Getting in as a traveler is tricky as you need permission to do so from the town itself. My friend William (Electrician of the town) invited me to come see him there and he is the one who showed me around and took me out of town on a cabin trip I will never forget. Nature around the town is unique, impressive and very inspiring. I could not keep my camera off for more than 5 minutes and captured many hundreds of shots that I edited into this video!

Barentsburg 2017
#andy1803 #barentsburg #snowmobiletour
Barentsburg is a Russian settlement in Spitsbergen, the largest among Svalbard Islands. Actually property of Artikugol, an oil company, it has been renewed in last years. Less than one thousand people live there, mostly mine workers with their families.
No roads to reach the town, from Longyearbyean you must travel by boat in summer and by snowmobile in winter.
And winter, probably, or early in Spring are the best periods for a visit, when snow covers everything in a touch of elegance. In the settlement there is a school for children, a beautiful sport center, the Pomor museum and some other historical and modern buildings. For those who want to stay overnight there is a comfortable hotel. There is also an orthodox church made in wood, a gift of Norway to remember the victims of an air crash in 1996.
Barentsburg is a must while traveling in Svalbard for its particular location on a beautiful fjord and for its strange atmosphere, a mix between vintage Soviet soul and modernity.
Moreover, if you choose to travel in winter (and this is what I suggest), the trip from Longyearbyen will offer you some wonderful landscapes you'll never forget.
If weather is not too bad, of course. As it happened to us in March 2017.
This film is a brief summery of that excursion to Barentsburg, leaving Longyearbyen under a snowy sky, climbing Longyear pass in the fog, crossing some incredible valleys till the sea where clouds opened for a short period to show us the best views.
To come back, late in the afternoon, it was really hard. A sort of challenge against snowfall and critical visibility. I had to stop footage because my action cam was iced. We arrived late in the evening after 120 kilometers ride, completely exhausted but really happy.
Special thanks to Knut, our guide from Poli Arctici. We were all absolute beginners for the Arctic and he helped us to overcome all difficulties.
Special thanks to Lorenzo e Kate Casini, it was a great luck for us to meet them in Svalbard. Some footage and photos are theirs.

This is one of my first YouTube film. I had no experience when I did it, nor on the field, neither in post-production. I chose a playlist for soundtrack not royalty free. I beg your pardon for this but this is not a commercial film and I didn't earn anything in doing or publishing it.

Discover Spitsbergen
The high Arctic destination of Spitsbergen is the largest island in the remote Svalbard archipelago lying halfway between northern Norway and the North Pole. Marking the edge of the habitable world, this ruggedly beautiful land with it's abundant birdlife and rich marine-life is best explored from the sea on a expedition cruise. Join videographer Lee Thomas on this introduction to Spitsbergen, shot in summer 2014.
